Thats based around assumptions besides the CD/4 connection. I want to believe that, but there's no actual proof that says that. Metal sonic is extremely inconsistent in the video game canon. You're also forgetting Rivals, if you consider that canon.

Still leaves the problem of the FFs being there and being uninteresting. You can fix that. Anti heroes are a free niche only filled by Team Dark, and they're pretty much exclusive to Universe, and since they're game characters, can't develop much. The FFs don't have mandates, so you could give them arcs and make them interesting

Not really. Even though it's true they're kind of irrelevant or redundant due to all the characters the games have already created, I like how Ian handle them in the comics and made them have roles that wasn't already filled by the game characters. I wouldn't mind Sonic having his own adventures with Tails and Amy, but the FFs are like a group of friends that Sonic and Tails hang out with sometimes. The only character that I feel irrelevant is Nicole, she needs a better role than being a handheld computer.

By killing Universe all you do is make it harder for characters like Shadow or Knuckles to not only show up, but have plots that don't involve Sonic saving the day for them. Universe works because we can have stories ABOUT them rather than them being sidekicks to Sonic

In all honesty, I am not hyped for Project 2017 at all.

He had his head up his ass before he made this; he just finally made it tangible in some form.

A lot of what he's saying is on point, and a lot of people have been saying it for a while. Most importantly what GHP did was translate the Classic gameplay into 3D, and this has the same aim, so it's obviously going to be incredibly similar.
