Anyone here play Civ like they're NTR? I setup a game with only 3 civs: myself, Gilgamesh, and Cleo. I build up my capital a little bit and then setup an auto-hotkey script to click next turn endlessly. I then leave my room and sit outside it for a few hours while the game plays. If I come back into the room and the game is still going I mumble a few apologies and excuse myself again. I've thought about knocking on the door before I enter but I don't want the noise to potentially disturb them. A few times my mom has asked why I sit outside the door of my room and I tell her each time "It's my new meta" (she has no idea what that means).

Top fucking kek.

There's also supposedly an exploit where if you chop rush something that's eligible for a production boost (like the +100% production to whatever era naval units policy) the production overflow gets boosted not once but twice. Some guy on CivFanatics said he built a spaceport in 1 turn with that gem.

The game's housing limitation feels like you can't go high or am I just misusing it? Also, how do you manage districts? Do you specialize cities or as much as possible? Since you can't really just build farms otherwise not enough housing.

And what happens when happine- amenities go too low in a city? Do your subjects chimp out?

Probably put it a dumb way sure. I meant something that builds onto the ideas of borders, diplomacy, wars for defined and limited purposes. Civ V always felt like it degenerated to pressing next turn until the screen for your chosen kind of victory pops up where in reality the latter stages should be the most intricate mechanically but it never really gets past what is basically feudal kingdoms quarreling with each other for profit, just with modern unit skins.

The sequel is currently in early access. People are generally positive but I haven't really read much about it (though the 4x game they did in the meantime, Endless Legend, is pretty good, so they're probably learning)

Stellaris is okay for a while, but it gets boring. I enjoyed the hours I put into it, but it's been a while and I have absolutely no will to try it, even after patches and DLC.

Housing becomes a non-issue as soon as you get Neighbourhoods. Then, amenity (and eventually food) will stop your growth.
And yes, if amenity gets too low, a bunch of angry barbs will spawn all around your city.

Honestly, I still haven't worked out a single strategy either. I'm trying to shit out 2-3 settlers as fast as possible in the early game and then focus on building up those cities, but that's about it.
>>
>>158601838
I like the reasoning behind builder charges, but it does lead to this problem.

In my Rome game on Deity when I was approaching victory I noticed I still had an unimproved Rainforest tile adjacent to Rome's city center. Builders simply fall by the wayside a bit when you're trying to get other shit online first.
>>

>Oh you're so strong

Turn n+3
Your army is weak
Turn n+4
You have such a strong army
>>
>a barbarian unit on turn 0 on literal spawning screen before any moves

noice
>>
>>158603120
I haven't gotten too much into it but my early strategy is slowly starting to revolve around getting an encampment and a small force of Archers, then just spewing settlers as much as I can whilst rolling barbarians.

Depending on the map it can be worth it to just knock over City States with them too
>>
>>158603120
>And yes, if amenity gets too low
How low is too low? -2? -4?

>>158603120
My early game strategy is quickly becoming going all in military and busting some fucking heads while warmonger penalties are non-existant. Maybe steal a city, a settler if you're lucky, raze everything in sight for free gold/sci/faith, etc. Then sue for peace and rake in tons of cash from the AI, and use it to quickly shit out a bunch of settlers and buy/build whatever infrastructure you can. Tada, instant empire.
>>
>>158603339
then you didnt place them in a way to maximize their aoe effect. The later industrial zone buildings apply their production to every city within 6 tiles.

A city being affected by one industrial zone full of buildings is going to be MUCH slower than a city being affected by 4 zones.
>>

Japan's probably best for a culture victory, that was the first game I won. Here's what I wanted to do:
>Get a religion with the belief that lets you buy science/culture buildings with faith
>Get a fuckton of faith generation
>Settle as many cities as possible, don't bother looking for good spots
>Build a holy site and culture district in each one - Japan builds them twice as fast so bad production isn't much of a problem
>Cluster them all together to take advantage of Japan's extra adjacency bonus

I posted this in the last thread and didn't get any replies. Is there any reason why your gold per turn on the top bar would read the wrong number? It says that I should have almost +400 per turn and I find that ever turn I take the number that actually gets added to the treasury is smaller and smaller. At this point I'm getting less than 40 gold per turn even though the number stated for net gold per turn hasn't changed at all.

Even if science went up with more cities, because none of the buildings give % boosts (therefore boosting your pop base science) it's always better to go wide and spam campuses.

The only exception (I think) is the wonder oxford University, which gives a 20% boost to science in 1 city. Its the only time you could go tall. Additionally many eureka moments (which are seriously OP, always go for them) require more cities (build 2 districts etc.)

Encampment is a defensive frontline, what are you gonna be defending from there? amphibious landings? Industrial zone is too close to the city, as they benefit more than one city you should always strive to have them bunched up in the center of your future empire so snuggle it above holisite/campus. Commercial is too far, it will be plundered by barbs, move it above the other two. Otherwise, decent setup.

The unit lineup at the moment is hideously incomplete, even though it'd be possible to properly space up unit transitions using almost nothing but previous game units.

My two cents:

>Light cavalry line: Horseman, Hussar, Cavalry, Gunship
>Heavy cavalry line: Heavy Chariot, Knight, Lancer, Landship, Tank, Modern Armor
>Ranged cavalry line: Chariot Archer, Horse Archer, Dragoon, Light Tank, Mobile Gun System
>Heavy (Counter) Infantry Line: Spearman, Pikeman, Grenadier, Anti-Tank, Modern Anti-Tank
>Light Infantry Line: Warrior, Swordsman, Longswordsman, Musketman, Rifleman, Infantry, Mechanized Infantry
>Melee Siege Line: Battering Ram, Siege Tower, Bulldozer
>Bomber Line: Airship, Bomber, Jet Bomber, Stealth Bomber
>Fighter Line: Biplane, Fighter, Jet Fighter, Stealth Fighter

I think part of the reason was to cut down on units being obsolete by the time they reach the enemy's cities. Fewer units and a slightly less runaway tech tree.

My only annoyance is how the unit upgrades are staggered, especially with how you can focus down techs and be launching Space Rockets without even having Sailing. It means you'll be seeing cavalry running alongside your tanks for quite awhile because they don't upgrade until helicopters.

Definitely switch the Commerce and Neighbourhood zones. Neighbourhoods fucking love cliffs, but they do nothing for commerce.

Also, since you're Japan you might also want to put the Encampment between the Industrial and Harbour for extra adjacency bonuses (or anything else really, entertainment, etc).

The only downsides I can see to all of this is you won't be able to grab too many of the restricted wonders, but that's not usually a huge deal.

Are adjacency bonuses really that crucial? I mean, getting +2 is usually trival, and you often have to go out of the way to get +3, which is just 1 difference. Won't make or brake your game, as mid-late game yields will go into tens and hundreds.

Something that has much more affect on game is getting as many overlapping bonuses for your cities from district buildings, or even just doing proper job with tile assignment and improvement, which automated AI is very bad at.

I'm currently doing my first, relatively blind playthrough of Endless Legend, and I feel like I'm doing something very wrong.
Short of wandering around and picking up dust from ruins, I'm mostly just standing around waiting for science to research and doing parlay quests to pacify the locals.

Now that my hero's squad's been dashed and I don't have any more marines (Valuters) queued up, I'm mainly just making sure my sciences and construction queues are in order and skipping to next turn.

Long story short you didn't research/build/assign enough production. In EL for "simple" factions production is paramount, some argue that you should just pumb dust and buyout everything but those people are morons. Well it's either that or just lazy, it does take less effort to make dust.

Point being, when looking for a place to settle in EL as vaulters you should look for 3 things:
1)Total fidsy
2)Production Yeld
3)Science yeld from tiles.
I maintain that the best terrain for vaulters is enchanted forest, because it's 1/1/1

As to how to solve it - move pops to production, unless you can significantly decrease time before new pop (>2 turns per pop), research production buildings and build them.

>>158613093
Winters fuck with everything. They make your life misarable and your cities shit. Vaulters have vaults, that help a lot by protecting your cities somewhat, but only after you do some faction quests. As to why its now 6 It could be a dozen different things.

-Fix the Armada/Corp exploit and make them sell for an appropriate amount of gold
-Fix the Trade exploit somehow

>AI and diplomacy
-Agendas are now split into two categories, positive agendas and negative agendas. Positive agendas can only ever make you more likable by a certain civ. For example, having a larger or as large of a navy as Norway will only ever make them like you; while having a smaller navy won't make them dislike you. However something like attacking a city-state or forward settling will have larger negative diplomatic penalties
-Agendas and gifts now explicitly show you how large of an effect they had numerically
-AI will now more frequently upgrade its units when it has the money.

>tech and resources
-Early game strategic resources like Iron and Horses are a lot more abundant
-Harbors have a negative penalty when not next to the city center, but the upgrades are slightly buffed. Encourage coastal settling a bit more.
-Late era military units will now always require tech that has its equivelant early era military unit, science cost is adjusted.

>barbs
-You will be alerted when a Barbarian camp spawns 6 tiles away from one of your cities.
-Barbarians will only ever spawn new units from their camp, instead of outside.

I've realized why end-game feels so much longer than in Civ 5.

The game is wide. So that means more spies to renew (which we didn't even have to do in Civ 5), more trade routes to renew, and they even removed the infinite science/money queue that Civ 5 had.

Why did they have to make everything a pain?

FUCK Barbarians in Civ 6.
I scouted this camp out, sent a Warrior and Archer. Was gonna set the Warrior up in a defensive position and just rain arrows from the Archer until the camp was clear.

One turn from reaching the camp TWO fucking horsemen spawn and immediately start raping my 3 units. All 3 of my units die, taking one horseman with them, who is immediately replaced by a third horseman spawn from the barbarian camp.

sumeria first 4 cities.jpg
1016KB, 1920x1080px
Hello /civ4xg/.

I come again with the same game of Sumer that I started a while ago for which I asked for help.

I'm planning to restart fresh on the same map but from turn one, to kind of optimize my strategy (I was just bumbling around this time, since it's my first game in Civ 6)

So with that said, given this map of the general area, how would YOU plan out your first 4 cities? Which districts would you place where, and in general how would you play the early game? India is to the southwest and france to the southeast. Managed to snag a worker and a settler from each early on, which crippled them.

I have marked the Settler start location with a pin (it was originally a forest, to the left and a bit above Uruk). I'm not seeking for other people to "play the game for me", I'm just curious as to what people who are actually good at the game would cook up here as their game plan, so that I can learn from their reasoning. Any and all replies are very appreciated. Sincerely, a noob.

>>
>>158623313
I had a game where I ended up at war with every other civ simultaneously. I prioritized France because I saw Niter in their borders. She was still using Horsemen against my Knights.

It was Deity too, so they had all expanded faster than me and were all ahead on tech. I'm pretty sure she was in the modern era or something.

After killing a bunch of units and taking half her cities, the Guard Imperiale or whatever started coming out and I had to peace with her until I'd caught up a bit.

Question, do you think I should've settled my capital one hex to the left instead? So that it would reach that sweet spot with +4 adjacency for a campus there, and a holy site nearby.

Also where would you modify the placements if you could tinker them around? If you could mark them on paint or something that would be a huge help.

the AI in stellaris can be abused, they will come to fight you at their capital if you warp in there with their fleet if they can win the fight
that exposes their other planets for you to take with another fleet
warp in to capital and wait for enemy fleet to warp in
the moment they do order your fleet to warp away and watch the ai immediately warp out, keep repeating that untill you take out everything you need to demand the war to be a tie
you might not have to fully warp out depending on their tech, just ordering it will cause the ai to move away to defend other shit

I've been watching some of FilthyRobot's videos because I'm new to Civ6, and I've noticed that when he founds his first city he locks in citizen slots and then clicks on focusing food and production.

Great walls are SHIIIIT
Compare it to Russias Lavra and what is up against (Fort)

>>158625975

He locks in the citizen for growth of the capital rather than total tile amounts which the AI prioritize. So a tile giving 3 food and 1 production is worse to the AI than a tile giving 1 food 3 production and 1 faith.

This hurts the cities growth, as well as any future citizen spawns. He is essentially trying to guide the city to grow better.

Some players do it in Civ 5 as well. It has to do with city governor AI not necessarily prioritizing best tiles for food/production and thus whenever a city grows it automatically puts the new citizen to work on sub-optimal tile wasting that turn's worth of food/production. It's super min-maxy autismo move basically.

I'm bored of Civ Vi already

Won a bunch of games against the harder AI levels. Just gets boring. Either waiting for sci/culture whatever victory or doing a mad dash across the map to kill all capitals. All turn into boring slogs.

The only interesting part is early game. Research is way too fast as well and I usually have AT teams way too quickly.

The research and culture upgrades are nonsensical and completely imbalanced. Some are good, most are useless, and not really much choice or difference game to game.

I feel ya. Some trait mods overwrite vanilla files. One of these days I'll compile a mega mix of trait mods, which includes all non-cheaty trait mods out there.

Speaking of which, what additional traits would /civ4xg/ want? Either species traits or leader (scientist, admiral, governor, general, ruler) traits?
>>
>>158630743
No idea. I just don't like the general balance and how research/culture upgrades are made.

I feel like if I could mod things and make the tech tree have some interesting aspect to it I would enjoy it.

Right now almost 90% of my research/culture choices seem pointless or stepping stones.

It's also because of how worthless harbors and naval stuff is too. I'd love if the game was moddable and I could go about creating non shit research and culture trees. Right now it feels completely linear.

I really like Ethics & Government Rebuild, and Megastructures seems interesting, but both apparently are incompatible with Alphamod which has alot of features I enjoy, specially the terraforming/0% habitability colonizing, and I don't know of any compatible mods that do similar things.

I like Extended Traits, which adds a good complement to vanilla traits, but I wish there were more traits to alluded to the biological aspects of species, rather than psychological ones. Leader traits would be really welcome too (specially negative traits, if the mod would allow them to earn a higher quantity of total traits)

The really bizarre thing is in some regards they opened it up.
You can be launching rockets and not even know how to Fish.

Instead of applying that kind of design in a way that makes sense, with civs branching out to pick out certain things whilst keeping a certain mainstay of prerequisites, instead you just end up with people fielding Infantry alongside Knights.

I found slavery to be more trouble than it's worth in Influence cost to suppress the dissident factions.

Purging is also too useful to give up.

It's alright.

I don't think standard play is fun anymore if you play optimally since it's just very tedious ICS. Playing with a theme and just going for india has been fairly fun though.

Early game combat can be kinda frustrating due to the heavy defensive bonuses. Even late game I imagine if you play against a player.

In my second game Pedro was forward settling and denouncing like a cunt, so I declared formal war, took the single city on my border and liberated one city state, then made peace. At least Charles II didn't put the gigantic fiscal pressure his predecesors did and, almost merely by luck, left the seeds of economical recovery the bourbons later put to work.

Meawhile, Ferdinand VII not only stoped the development of the country for his whole reign but also made the country go backwards a century AND laid the seeds for a long and bloody 10 years civil war after his death.

I had a severe energy deficit late game due to the resources and units needed to fight in the war in heaven.
I decided to assign most of my colonies to sectors and made them all focus on energy credits. It worked.
They were able to micro my buildings, where my research was not affected by I had a gradual trade off of minerals, from +600 monthly to +400 monthly, into +15 to +140 energy. That took about two years, give or take. Saved my fleet and the war.

The really important thing you need to do is to let them form your new colonies, late game. Once terraforming is available and you got a decent piece of real estate, you jump dramatically in resources due to them handling new colonies on previously uninhabited planets.

Those are the energy monsters that eat everything.
If I could rally all my allies (I was a signatory under the war in heaven event, meaning half the galaxy was my ally) to fight them off, that'd be enough, but you can't declare war on them. This means allies send help at their discretion and get piecemealed by an incredibly superior force.

They'll probably fix it but I won't cross my fingers.

Oh hey, an AI just took a city with walls in my game. How crazy.

Bully for you!
>>
>>158642217
One of the scientists had died, the other was helping sentient robots on a 24 tile tomb world to max their science buildings, and the other had just recently turned idle (I was fighting a technologically inferior thrall), meaning the bonuses from debris were irrelevant.

And, I had already surveyed 85% of the galaxy, the other percent behind the militarist awakened empire I was at war with.

>>158642396
I thought the war in heaven was the crisis. I was well positioned to build a fleet to combat the rivaling 100k fleet. But nope. War in heaven and late game crises are different things that happen at the same time.

The problem here are resources. I did not have enough mineral income to build up my fleet quickly, and with them inside my territory, my colonies would go quickly further starving me out.
>>
What is 'domination' victory in this game if it's not capital capturing? Seems like it's just points based on how many military units you have desu, nothing to do with what rank, level, experience or the size of your empire

Yeah, once your fleet is lost it's impossible to be formidable again quickly. You are at the mercy of the victor, and with such an overwhelming force you are generally always going to lose, especially because you can't bring your allies with you unless you cheese it somehow like declaring a war again an empire that's far away and brings your allies through the crises area. As a solo militaristic player you are equally fucked.
>>
Anyone else think the modern age comes on way too fucking quickly?

>Finally reach rifling, redcoats and field cannons, time to mass them and destroy my enemy

>>

>>
>>158642845
Tech and their inter-dependencies feel weird in the mid-late game. I was launching a satellite before having electricity. From a flavor perspective there should be more dependencies there.
>>
>>158642682
The victory is capital capture. The points are just raw sum of unit strength, as far as I can tell. It's a pretty shit measurement desu

I was pacifist.... I only have a substantial military because I got dragged into war in heaven.

to be honest with late game resources it's alright if they aren't everywhere.

>>
>>158645669

That's historically acurate since most civs in the game start as agricultural societies and the horse as we know now was developed in central asia after centuries of eugenics done by the barbarians there. Original horses weren't taller than humans and were probably the most useless animals of those you could domesticate. They were so puny and useless that humans hunted then to extintion in America.

These barbarians with their genetically enhanced horses were the ones that taught the use of horses to the rest of the world. If anything Scythians should get early access to the horses since they were part of these barbarians yet they decide to make then a civ this time.
