should go to try mode (select the character in the shop) and play around a bit first with any new character you pick up. then ai with real allies (solo with AI 4 can be brutal) to learn maps for a bit. try one of the middle difficulties because the lowest is speed runs for gold and the highest will probably be beyond you at first. if you have the misfortune of running into another beginner on elite you could have a really bad time if the ai gets grouped up.

there is team balancing matchmaking and some protection for new accounts but you will likely have a bad time to the bottom for 5-20 games unless you are more than average skillwise on some other competitive game. some slight awareness of how play your character and how to cooperate would help a lot.

The problem would be his charge.
His firestrike is a simple aoe skillshot, but making the charge like it is in-game would be somewhat difficult, especially on most maps where there's so little straight paths.
Making it targeted would be a little boring, they could make it like that one ult in LoL where they dude just runs really fast at the direction of your cursor but not sure if they can work that in there.

i think the mechanics needed for his charge are already implemented in other abilities:
ETC's powerslide(without the pass through terrain talent): if you hits an object or terrain you just slide along it's border.

There's two ways they could go with it.
The way you described, a stun/sometimes knockback depending on maximum distance of travel
Or like in-game, slow windup, sometimes escape/chase ability with a long distance of travel.
Of course they could make it half way and have certain talents that would increase charge distance or change it's effects.

Uther's upgrades would be amazing but it's almost impossible to pass up redemption at 20.
Artanis's beam upgrade is situationally fantastic, absolutely wrecks viking teams.
Archon at 20 is hands down the best at making an ult even ultier, too bad it becmae shit after storm build was nerfed to hell. That being said level 20 wall is so fucking fun, but storm shield is too hard to pass up on.

But my personal favorite it Wyrmfu upgrade that hella long range, that 2 SECOND root.

All the level 20 ults have some appeal to them, but most of them won't win you the game like those attack modifiers or defense abilities.

Then once you got zealot charge the game would be over. All of that depends on you being able to destroy your targets.
As Butcher, your threat is presence is all in your burst.
The moment mark goes down you lose half you sustain and damage, and if the enemy team has something like Jo, Lili, Art or someone with knockback/roots then your ult is really just another root.
Nothing is really single-handed unless you find yourself in quick memes and the enemy team can't counter you.

Artanis was fine, everyone just played him like Leoric, which really isn't fine.
His inherent lack of cc is made up for in his damage, mobility (dash was pretty good for evading aoes/skillshots when you got used to it) and his shield, combo that with someone like Malf, Arthas or Jaina and you got yourself a fine team.

Sounds about right from my experience, he does seem to completely destroy mages and I've gotten the hang of the push and that has helped a lot.

The ult choice is a tough one though I found. The dash is appealing with the low mobility and it does pretty good damage but its charge makes chasing with it virtually impossible and a crap charge lands you in the middle of their team ready to be raped, while the counterstrike regularly completely turns fights around objectives with narrow approaches and does like 60% of the health of some of the squishier heroes It's fucking perverse, but actually getting it off is reliant on the enemies actually hitting you. I started off favoring the dash but I've been leaning towards the counter strike the more I play.
