Bully ->R1 is like frame-tight so if they have a shitty connection they'll escape every time.

Protip: 99% of hosts have a shitty connection because they're kids on college dorm shared wifi or in some sweaty armpit of lower europe, so the bullyaxe WA itself doesn't make for totally reliable chasedown. The reason to use the bullyaxe to chase runners isn't the WA, but the fact that you have a fast weapon with almost 500AR. An R1-R1 combo from the bullyaxe will always outdamage an estus chug and barely has any recovery. It lets you hug their dick and keep punishing their heal attempts effectively until you run them down.

It is actually a true combo. The warcry at the end of the bullyrun has a longer hitstun than the regular warcry. It just doesn't work if there's too much latency, which is true of most combos in this game that don't involve mashing R1 with a 2H curved sword

Those are basically invader win-conditions, though.
A 30% HP deficit is huge and requires a massive skill difference to overcome. Even if he's good enough to overcome that, 9/10 "honorabu" duelfags will just chug when they realizing they're going to lose a fair 1v1 to someone with a huge health penalty. Then you have to burn through the effective healing of 15 flasks, each restoring 800HP.

If the host isn't an idiot, the invasion isn't worth wasting your time with. There are simply too many advantages to overcome unless the host is either too stupid to abuse their advantages, or too mechanically weak to win even with them.

If you actually wanted to use a greathammer, Quakestone is one of the best choices. You basically pick between it or the greatclub. Greatclub has higher AR and better R2s (arguably the best R2s of any ultra) while quake has more reach and a weaponart that hardcounters other ultras.

The best time to use the quakestone is if you're facing another ultra, like say an OH Yhorm's build. You can trade into ultra attacks with the WA because it has built-in perseverance, meaning you require no poise to still HA through another ultra, and will win the trade massively thanks to the damage reduction. Anything with slow, telegraphed and long-recovery R1s gets fucked by the quakestone WA. Unfortunately, anything fast or with short recovery can easily trade into that WA and roll out before the startup finishes, so its value is limited against smaller things.

Great Club is the better option against anything greatsword-sized or smaller. It takes less stamina, does more damage, has those amazing R2s and weighs less, meaning it's easier to reach the essential poise breakpoint to trade with greatswords. Greathammer's have the highest base poise strength in the game and so are the most practical weapons to poise through greatswords with. Takes less than 40.

Personally, I've been abusing the Quake WA to fuck up 2scythe faggots in the arena. You can bust it out on reaction to their anime jump bullshit and smash through their hyperarmour for a 1k damage trade.

See the thing is that strong, reliable, spammable and borderline uncopunterable bullshit like curved sword R1s and katana WDs have infinite scalability. They don't get stronger or weaker in a high-HP environment because they're completely consistent. What low HP does is strengthen high-risk/high-reward weapons because it means that they don't need to perform consistently to have a positive impact on the outcome of a game. A single trade into an ultra with proper AR puts you within kill-range if you have 39 vigor in the arena. Outside of the arena, two trades into an ultra still leave you with a safe HP pool. Embered pvp requires high-risk weapons to perform consistently, which is the absolute opposite of a high-risk playstyle. Meanwhile 0 risk playstyles like being an enormous flaming faggot and spinning in tight sprinting circles fishing for WDs with a washingpole, doesn't change whether both players have 1350HP or 1850.

In the arena, I have about 5 or 6 chances to successfully call out a WP running attack and get my trade, after which I've done enough damage to abandon it for a fast secondary weapon and go for the finisher. In embered duels, I have like 8 or 9 chances, but I have to succeed twice as many times in those chances.

The thing is that this :battle of wits" is utterly dominated by weapons which are mindless. Anything that actually does require baiting or "tech" to use is crushed because they are one-trick ponies in an environment where you need to somehow make your opponent fall for the same trick 3-4 times in a row. Instead of out-witting, you're reduced to abusing retardation. If a trick will work against a good player, it will only work once, which is why an environment where you only need one trick is healthy for weapons that rely on tricks.

Most of the fights I win in the arena or at pontiffs were just people walking into my attacks because they couldn't into depth perception or were way too predictable.

The average skill level in pvp is very low, which is probably a good thing because it means low barrier-of-entry for new players.

I've been using the steel protection +2 in the arena. Despite the decreased pvp effectiveness I think the 8%~ reduction should in theory be useful and allow you maybe survive one more hit than usual, is this right?
