GAY DISTRICTS

I like districts, I think the core of all civ 6's problems is just the AI really
>>
I just want the clean looking borders for my empire back. The hex system and the way you expand cities makes it look so ugly in 5 and 6, even really late in games.

so it's worth building a shitty city with no luxuries or bonuses if it gets you all those district overlap?

no, you should definitely be building cities in good spots or on top of useful resources because the production cost increase can fuck you

Does Sins of a Solar Empire belong here? It's kinda 4x-ish and wouldn't really fit anywhere else.

Anyone here play Civ like they're NTR? I setup a game with only 3 civs: myself, Gilgamesh, and Cleo. I build up my capital a little bit and then setup an auto-hotkey script to click next turn endlessly. I then leave my room and sit outside it for a few hours while the game plays. If I come back into the room and the game is still going I mumble a few apologies and excuse myself again. I've thought about knocking on the door before I enter but I don't want the noise to potentially disturb them. A few times my mom has asked why I sit outside the door of my room and I tell her each time "It's my new meta" (she has no idea what that means).

It's been a while since I played any Civ, and my last was 5 - how do I get back into gud for six now?

I started a multiplayer game with some friends as China to try and turtle up with my walls and pursue a science victory, but immediately I was losing to a bunch of unmet civs.

Then I tried arabia in singleplayer for religious victory but norway kept fucking dominating the map with apostles.

Am I missing some key element? I seem to be disadvantaged every time by turn 10.

So at what city sizes should I be building settlers? And should I always make them from my capital or what?

I've tried two games so far. Both were boring as fuck, felt like nothing happened and just kind of fizzled out. I didn't really know what I was meant to do - the forward planning for district thing is a real stumbling block when you don't know what other locations you're going to get for future cities. What if the current city is actually, in the end, the best for science even though it looks shit for science at the start of the game?

I had long stretches with nothing to build in various cities. I had a few patches where about 15-20 turns went by with nothing to do but click Next Turn. I want to like this but so far it feels like they've added in way more features yet managed to add in no more fun.

So it was asked last thread but didn't get a response, is there a torrent for Endless Legend that's not got adware?

Do people tend to play on faster speeds? I just got to about turn 150 or so and was still at around 600AD. Or does time start moving a lot faster?

>>158423972
Honestly, just play on a lower difficulty. If you're really inexperienced and play on a higher difficulty you're probably going to lose whatever civ you pick. If you go on about medium difficulty, or even lower, it doesn't matter who you are.

Anyway, Rome are considered very good. Though I'd still recommend just starting easier, like I said.
>>
>>158423412
>Am I missing some key element? I seem to be disadvantaged every time by turn 10.

that's actually how it's supposed to go, you're always supposed to start winning later in the game. if you're winning from the start then the difficulty is too low
>>
>>158423903

What if, instead of having to research being able to stack 2 and 3 units on each other, you could stack them (with or without some arbitrary cap) as long as they're all from the same city? That's what the tech explains anyway, that you've been an expert in military organization and aren't just relying upon the lords, captains, whomever to handle their own troops.

Historically this works too, since until the Military Revolution in the 15th century most commanders didn't even know how many troops were fighting for them. They just called on their alliances and hoped to lead from the front.

Yeah, Civ AI has always been significantly worse than what you'd expect from a human player, but 1UPT has made it much more obvious, which is the core of the problem really. You don't need an AI that can operate on the level of a human player, you want an AI that provides a challenging and engaging game for a player

1UPT is also responsible for the extremely slow production that causes the tech/production disparity that most people are noticing in VI, it has to be slow or else you will get even larger unit carpets than the AI already builds

There should be some kind of recurring cost for using units who are outdated. Like it would actually be hard for the US to maintain a corps of mustekmen, because we have built our military around modern arms, and thus muskets would require a whole different set of fixed costs.
>>
>>158429921
The AI would really need a cheat for that because they have a hard time with strategic resources. If they can upgrade they generally do, it's just they can't a lot of the time. It's a problem with the game design.

Sometimes though the AI just sees that earlier era units have no maintenance so it spams those.

No you rush buildINGS with chopping. Seriously it's dumb, you spend what, 5 turns? on a builder. Then have him chop twice and a 15 turn district is almost finished. Then you sell the 1 use left builder for lods of emone and pay for most of the cost of another builder. Or fuck just hard build it again, you've already saved like 10 turns on building. Who you then repeat the process with until the entire world is a deforested husk.

I actually got the hang of it now, starting on lakes and 2-3 hammers spots is fucking important and lumber mills are god tier. Plus im playing on quick not sure what that does but holy shit this is so much better than my England island play, that was so fucking slow and I usually use islands so no rivers and it sucks. Cleopatra is really good so far. I'm actually really liking the game so far now, once I understood how districts works and where to put my cities thing sped up. no more 50 turn wait times in the beginning with cities,

big stick teddy went to war with me out of nowhere on like turn 10 and things got real but then I made a simple trade with oranges and he was like looks good bro sure peace is good.

I can see why the ai is bad but I already knew that from my England play through. land civ is sadly so much better than sea civ right now. Also I know I should be lining up my districts but its not telling me which ones should be next to each other, i'm just making sure I have room for them and can keep my lumber mills.

>you dont want to mass produce units all game too, or you dont play Scythia ?
>well looks like you wont have any fun with Civ6

and no, having 1 or 2 eras of advancement doesnt do shit.

my tank and artillery with a great general for +5 attack didnt do shit against the waves of knights of germany, and that was only on king.
Didnt lose the city because stronk walls ( also have to click twice every fucking time to use the city defenses, incredibly annoying ) but I just quit the game its boring as fuck.

I'm already fed up with the game I think, I was a pretty big anno player at some point and I'm telling you this game gives the same vibes. Its supposed to be Civ tho.

Way too much planning is needed if you want to have city that arent a complete mess.
You think you're getting it ? nope, its just like Anno, and its probably worse the further you get into the game, with all the special rules for wonders and tile improvements. Its a clusterfuck.

Its also impossible to know precisely what to do to satisfy a need. Short on amenities ? on housings maybe ? You'd like to know which policy or technology you may want to go for in the near future ? Go fuck yourself.

50 production in a city, 50% increased production of units, still need 10 turns to produce an arty.

Its a constant struggle for balance that doesnt exist and gets ignored by the AI.

I want to like it, but its a real mess 2bh.

You do realize that production scales based on the size of your empire, right? The more cities you have, the more it costs to build everything, not just districts.

>>
>>158440582
Always goes on the tile with the highest food
>>
>>158440464
District production costs don't actually scale with number of cities.

>The cost of a district increases as you progress along the Technology and Civics tree. The highest completed Technology or Civic determines this cost increase, so that districts generally cost more as the game progresses. District production cost is also affected through a comparison of how many of that type of district you have total in comparison to other players. If you have fewer of a given district than the average among all players, the cost of that district is reduced by 25% for you. Districts have the same cost between all of your cities at a given time. The cost of a district is set when you first begin production, even if you switch production and return to it later.
>>
>>158440613

I thought it was from the city centre that houses the district to another city centre so I was placing my districts only according to the proximity bonus, mistakes were made.

Because you actually have limited Amenities. In Civ V, the way this worked was
>Have X Unhappiness generated by your pop, cities, etc.
>Have +4 Happiness generated by AT LEAST ONE luxury resource, no excess happiness for having more

In Civ VI
>Individual cities have X Unhappiness based on population and housing
>You have Y Amenities based on how many you have improved in your borders or trading
Y/X = Total unhappiness countered within cities
Remainder Z = Unhappiness in any given city based on lack of amenities, grows at rate Z1 per city
The AI will reassign amenities to counter unhappiness growth "efficiently" as possible, leading to overall unhappiness growing in every city as slowly as possible.

Ziggurats weren't only used for religion as a temple, they had a few sections(I think 3) and in one of them children were educated. Also Sumerians were pretty advanced, like Babylon. There was even a legend about Ziggurats, that the people there went out of God's way and the God made them unable to speak the same language and understand each other and basically ended the civilization there, or something like this

I wrote all these from memory, I last read about Sumerians like 10 years ago so these might be all wrong

>>158449193
The Ship gets the food from the tile, not the mineral.

Planetary Administration gets both mineral and food from the tile.

You can destroy the ship after you've reached pop 5 and then place the Planetary Administration anywhere.

When landing adjacency bonuses is irrelevant.
Just look for the tile with the highest food, then when you can get adminstration you move it.

That being said, >>158449532 is correct: prioritise adjacency bonus. So the ideal site for a colony ship is a food + mineral tile with no research in any of the 4 directions, because research is the one thing that doesn't get adjacency bonus.

So when you add a luxury resource to any of your cities you automatically gain 4 copies of it which will automatically be distributed out to any other cities you settle up to a maximum of 3 other cities right? 1 for the original city and 3 more for 3 more cities?

But as far as I know, adding another duplicate of that same luxury resource so that you would be up to 8 won't actually allow you to use it in 4 more cities will it?

So what's the deal exactly? once I've got a 5th city settled will the next new luxury resource I add to my empire be distributed to that 5th city that isn't benefiting from the previous luxuries I had?

A good trick for finding empires is to scout with military ships.
Science ships get bogged down doing system surveys; military ships you can just fly to the other side of the galaxy to establish diplomatic contact with everyone. It's better to do it sooner rather than later because by 'later', dicks like the one you just found might make have settled more and closing their borders actually blocks you off.

1) I wanted to know how to diplomatically deal with the races I conquer. I don't really enjoy bombing all their worlds to nothing (since troop transport micro is beyond infuriating) and would rather have them paying me regularly so I don't destroy them. The problem is, after they give me lots of stuff for a peace treaty, they start hating me. It never works the second time, annoying fucks just refuse any conversations until I genocide them.
2) Does the AI race that gets chosen as a candidate for council always vote for iteself? I've signed a "vote for me" threaty with Darloks when they were the 2nd most numerous, but they voted for themselves anyway. Is that a fluke or do they always do that?
3) What exactly do race descriptions mean? Does Alkari being "honorable" mean they will never break a threay like a non-agression pact or is it just for flavor reasons?

1) That's about how deep diplomacy gets. They hate you for your war actions (attacking colonies/ships) etc for almost forever, and I've found there's nothing to do but quarantine them to a token system or kill them all.
2) If they have a chance to get a diplomatic victory they will vote for themselves 100% of the time. If you want win that way you'll have to get alliances with other races.
3) Flavor. Some races have different play styles but they're almost all the same. Alkari will dick you if they think they can get away with it. I have never seen someone break an alliance with me though.

Are different approaches even a thing though? So far it seems that all you need is to start the population snowballing, grow so big no one can contest you and then you choose whatever victory cinematic you want.
You want military victory - rush population to produce more ships.
You want economy - rush population for more taxes and money for shares.
You want tech - rush population cause more scientists equals more science.
You want diplomacy - rush population to vote for yourself.
Rushing population seems to always be the best choice, faster growing races seem to be the best at everything. There's no diversity.

That desert is what's left of the Orc lands after mankind got together, killed a god, and used his powers to destroy the Orcs. Not on a whim, but after a Hundred Years War where the orcs had been on a crusade to conquer the world.

It's a fairly small continent; that peninsula in the top left is basically England. The lower left was a mixed human/harpy empire, and the middle was all pseudo-Mongolian steppe. On the right side was elves.

The idea was that, well, maybe killing off all Evil doesn't actually stop Evil itself, and Evil finds new places to spring up.

Found a map with all the terrain features too. I autogenerated resources and played it a couple of times. Long story short, Civ V auto-resource distribution is kind of fucked. Cows took over the world, and there were only a dozen or so sources of strategic resources for this massive full-size map.

I also made sure to paint regions with different continents so that certain tilesets would make the areas look unique and different. I miss the Civ V tilesets now. Imagine how much better Civ VI would look like with at least 4 tilesets to choose from to assign to different continents?

map was small islands ( randomed ), emperor difficulty.
I randomed Pericles.

Also the science victory indicator is wrong, all you need to be ahead is to have discovered 1 tech thats 1 era ahead of everybody else, which doesnt mean much.

I kept swinging from first to third place.

Ghandi was pleased with my intensive nukes usage.

I just cant be bothered to play 1 or 2 more hours just to build the spaceship. I'll watch the cutscenes on youtube.

Here are your four truths for starting a Civ6 game.

1. Playing is suffering.
2. Suffering is caused by unoptimisation.
3. Suffering can be stopped by letting go of optimisation.
4. Let go of optimisation.

tl;dr stop giving a fuck, settle in place, never restart.
You can build 4, 8, 12, 24 cities if you want.
And yes, coastal cities are useless.

yes coastal cities are kinda useless, you can build a harbor once you have naval construction within 3 tiles of your city.

sadly focusing early on sea exploration means you're behind in military tech, which is dangerous.

dont bother with faith

cost of districts is somehow global tho, as in if you have for example less campuses than every other civ in the game you get a 25% production discount on that district
>>
>>158455245
Not really.
It's alright tho.
Also the studio's MO is to keep shitting out DLC and balance updates for like 7 years, so it's a grower. This may be good or bad depending on your perspective.
>>
>>158455979
Other civs will very often be more advanced than you, because "advanced" is a bad term. They simply have more tech than you because AI navigates through the tech tree incredibly inefficiently. You could be much farther ahead science-wise but have less tech. Same for civics.

It's not that bad.
