Painted world is the world for those who have no will to continue living (Sulyvan for instance left because he has not experienced lost). The old giant guy is not Lloyd, he's Ariandel. He's the painter/restorer of the current painted world, which is painted using blood, which is why he needs his flail, with which he whips himself, to generate blood and sustain the painting.

Friede founded the Sable church but seems like she eventually rejects the idea of an age of dark and enters the painted world to act as a (sort of) deity to the forlorn. Doesn't seem like her sister (Yuria) misses her all together, and Friede doesn't care about the Londor church anymore.

The grave isn't Artorias', it's just some random dude who got carried away fighting undead matches for too long.

Elfriede abandoned the sable church for reasons unknown and fled into the painting to get away from it all.

The painting was supposed to be burned when it began to rot, but she didn't want to die so she convinced Ariandel to preserve the painting by quenching the flame.

Keeping the flame under control requires blood of the painter because the painting was made with blood. So, Ariandel rends his flesh with a flail to let blood and appease the flame.

The grave is just a cheap knockoff and belongs to some nobody that ties-in to the arena.

VH is good if you time the attacks and catch panic rolls. Sucks onehanded imo.
Saber has a meme weaponart, but some argue that CCS is better.
Quills are alright, but don't expect too much from the weaponart. Best with sharp.
The scythe is good for keeping people away, have some spells to make use of the safety.
Onyx is absurd, as are greatswords in general.

Talons suck and I haven't tried much else really.
