You'd expect fighting machines with an engagement range under a kilometer that regularly take hits from high-powered lasers to have a bit less glass around the pilot. Maybe at least the same amount, but more logically arranged - a lot of mechs have shit lateral visibility with huge glass skylights.

And yes, I know the tabletop fluff has smart glass that goes opaque upon sensing a laser hit, but that surely entails some lag time and unreliability. I'd be surprised if mechwarriors didn't come out of a fight with a sunburn at least.

Clan battlemechs are 'mechs that were either too expensive or the designers did not have the industrial capabilities to produce it in omnimech capacity.

Normal battlemechs are generally built as a whole, no need to extensive modification, only spare parts and are thus cheaper.

Omnimechs require pods that are compatible with every single core of that chassis, be they 5, 10 or even 15 years old. In addition, producing one omnimech means you generally have to manufacture the pods for several alternative configurations.

Clan IIC mechs are battlemechs out of reverence for the original, Star League era designs. Chassis like the Orion were considered too historically significant to the clans that they could not simply let the design fade away, but neither could they let them stagnate with outdated technology and parts that were no longer in production.

The Clans are the descendants of the Star League Defense Force who went into self-imposed exile in order to deprive the Great Houses of the inner sphere the significant military and industrial might they possessed. Their initial plan was just to wait out a few decades on whatever worlds they found far enough away from the inner sphere to avoid participating in the outright genocide the great houses wrought across the planets of the inner sphere, then return and help rebuild and unite the war-fatigued remnants under a new Star League, one which would not be fractured along racial an societal lines, rather united under the common goal of humankind survival and prosperity.

Over the centuries, and on hostile worlds the SLDF-in-exile were hard pressed to survive on worlds with scarce resources, and were molded into a rather brutally blunt warrior society.

The Clans had split between two camps, Wardens and Crusaders, who believed they would protect the Inner Sphere in two different ways. Wardens, who largely stayed out of the invasion conflict, believed they should focus on defending the sphere from external threats and acting as peacekeepers like the original SLDF, while the Crusaders believed that only by instilling the Clan way of life would they ever achieve lasting peace.

Of course, the great houses weren't just going to sit by and let these seemingly alien entities just waltz in and depose them of their supreme positions of power. So off to war they went.

Davion and the Federated Suns consider themselves the most liberal and civil of nations, while boasting the largest military that they regularly use to stomp their neighbours with. 'MURRRICA in space, with a dash of British imperialism and french sense of superiority.

Kurita and the Draconis Combine try to follow the Japanese Bushido honour code, but are so god damn weaboo that they literally genocide or forcibly sterilize other races in their population in order to propagate the japanese. They're japanese imperialism turned up to 11.

Liao and the Capellan Confederation are stereotypical chinese imperialists, who can be considered underdogs while also being utter dog cock culinary experts. Constantly getting hit by either Marik or Davion, thus rather poor, but their considerably large chinese population are known to commit atrocities just because.

Clan Jade Falcon are often considered "second best," because they tried extremely hard to please daddy Kerensky, but didn't quite make the cut. This leads them to double down on clan traditionalism and their efforts across the board. They're honestly the powerhouse of the Clans because of this desperate need to prove themselves as just as good as daddys favourite, leading to a lot of technological developments and exemplary warriors. Clan Smoke Jaguar are the most ferocious of the clans. They developed many of the most feared designs of omnimechs, often at the cost of civilian standards of living. They sought to complete the clan warrior castes ultimate goal of "creating the perfect warrior." They respect strength and honour above all, but are very dismissive and outright racist towards freeborn people. Their desire to achieve as much honour and be eternally remembered in glorious conquests and battles leads most of their warriors to charge headfirst into enemies, breaking formation, and taking all of their enemies with them as they die.

After Operation Bulldog a lot of Clan salvage was redistributed throughout the IS House armies and the wealthier mercenary outfits. Afterwards during the Civil War I think Clan Diamond Shark wasn't picky about who they exported to, and that's how the Mad Cat MkII came about.

A marker that is on the target, visible through walls, smoke, particles and foliage, etc., often tracking the position in such a manner that skilled players can still headshot/leg/component shot without actual visual confirmation.

BF3 had those doritos, and snipers would kill people based on them, without seeing them themselves. Many servers turned this feature off, as it was very detrimental to positioning/play. It is like a mild, integrated wallhack / aimbox.
