SFV netcode is utter trash. How can anyone defend this. Play a set in a lounge against some guy and connection is perfect. Set ends, go back to menu, start new set, game is incredibly choppy for both, outright unplayable. But that's just like stick play, you need to learn your own set of special movements and adjustments and make them into muscle memory.

How is OD bad? It consumes your Burst, is a solid defensive mechanic in a game that's primarily offensively oriented, and doesn't become too strong until the match has reached a point where you generally have enough meter to deal with what follows.

There's like two "safe" options he can do, either GF or BB, BB is usually to catch jumps and GF is just a pressure finisher but GF can be punished with IAD if you don't have the meter to YRC. Eating a throw after IB isn't really that bad depending on the character. Axl is a solid character, he is not the best and doesn't have that many top players playing him so he isn't constantly winning tournaments or anything. In GG you're not supposed to sit fullscreen chucking out projectiles or whatever, but Axl has very good control of the screen with ressenha (with YRC this move is so fucking good) and his anti-airs are some of the best in the game. You can't safely tech out of air combos vs axl either or you risk losing a ton of tension because you have to defend the multi-hit anti-airs or if you think you're safe teching at fullscreen, lel 5P eat shit.

The most misunderstood thing about both Axl and Venom is that they're some full zoner characters with no mixups or pressure up close. Axl has some mixups too but the main way he gets damage on offence from my experience against him at least is building risc gauge enough to pressure the enemy into a mistake, or auto-counter hit 6H or the crossup special into fuckhuge damage. His very good screen control and anti-airs help on offence too if you think the opponent is trying to jump out, he gets good damage from throws

TL;DR Axl is kind of a zoner or keepaway character, except that role is not constantly staying at full screen and having distance between the players be the ultimate objective because that's not really how it works in GG
