I suggest switching to the Corvian Greatknife. It basically does the same thing with the 2H rolling poke with leo ring, but it's also amazing once you get used to how to use the first R1 swing and the rolling R1 effectively. Both attacks are incredibly fast, once you learn how to stay on top of people, roll around attacks, and roll catch with it, it's brutal.

If you need the fast rollpokes, the Greatknife is for you.

Those are basically your cores.

I tend to run a Dark infusion on some light one-handed cancer weapon like Carthus as well and it works fine because cancer is cancer even with split damage.

I also tend to carry around a Lightning infused Dragonslayer's Axe as you have enough faith to make it a worthwhile back up in some situations

Onyx Blade is looking set to be a choice pyro weapon in the new DLC, also.

Are they? All I know is they improved the blind spot animation for it but I never use that shit to begin with. You just R1 move forward R1 move forward R1 rolling R1 R1 (luckily combos 2 pokes instead of going into the slash which is great), etc. Main skill is gitting gud at rolling around attacks and staying super aggressive.

I finally went through the process of farming it this morning and I'm really happy with it, I started with getting my ass kicked while practicing in duels, to winning with a sliver of life left a lot, to finally fucking destroying people and even flawless victory'ing them.

Magic is fine, it's just not broken like refined builds. Use flashsword for melee, darts for perfectly safe ranged spam, soulmass to keep people on their toes, etc. Have 60int for spell damage, base str/dex for your weapon, 30att for spells, 40vig minimum, everything else into endurance. Equip sage ring, bellowing dragoncrest, young dragon ring, and whatever in the last slot. Immolation Tinder is a fun and good weapon, too.

Magic is okay.
It's less about "hope your opponent doesn't manage to roll through your 1hitOHKO spell" and more about applying additional pressure and extra range. Best used with some weapon, and INT-focused stuff has some to offer. The DLC introduced a rather interesting dual DEX/INT scythe, for example. The KKK stake mentioned by anon above is pretty great too.
