This, connect smaller cities to bigger ones and they will grow reasonably well.
Also consider using builders to chop down some trees, clear marshes for food, or spend gold on stuff like mills and granaries.

First game(playing on prince for the first 5-10 games or so to get a feel for the mechanics), got zerg rushed by sigurd while my army was fighting barbarians elsewhere and he took my capital on turn 89.

This is where I'm at in my second game. I have a nice situation set up here. I havea crescent shaped empire with Stockholm sitting right in the middle of it. I control Stockholm and La venta south of it out of rame, this pretty much keeps Sigurd boxed and I can focus on Spain.

I just crushed Spain's Army and now I'm gonna loot his empire while moving my army and siege weapons southward to take madrid and effectively cut Spain into 2 pieces and take control of a key isthmus at the same time. I gotta say I am impressed so far.

I does level up. If you can't possibly put it adjacent to 4 districts, then the placement doesn't matter, all embarkations/disembarkations will cost 1 movement for this region. Not sure about sea trade routes, so I guess it's better to put it on a coast tile just to be sure.

It's not the fact that it killed a mining station it's that it killed it the second it got in range.

I also took a peek in the files, it's a 150-250 damage beam weapon that ignores 50% of armor that shoots once per second. It also has 6 of these.

It also has 20,000 health, and some insane amount of regeneration Might just be 4% regeneration, but it seemed higher than that., 75% evasion, and 150 armor.

What the fuck.

In Civ V, zone of control was something melee infantry did.
Basically if you start your turn next to a melee infantry, and you want to move to another tile, you only move 1 tile per turn.

Like Attack of Opportunity rules for D&D, except it reduces move speed rather than proccing attacks.

Yeah I would definitely recommend trying out Necrophage (or all factions really) at least once just so you understand how they function and how to fight them.
Particularly for Necrophage, Proliferators are maximum priority targets and it's also nice to attempt to kill off disease carriers with ranged units before they reach your front line.

First game as Sumeria and they seem hella good, building war chariots instead of scouts early on with 2 chariots I was roaming the continent, scouting everything, killing every barbarian and clearing every camp I met without any issues, getting constant goodie hut rewards like more pop, eureka boosts and free builders (by turn 40 I now have 4 free builders)

One ziggurat already doubled my early game research and culture.

My main complaints so far are that turn times seem to take really long even at very early stages of game and that you cannot turn off the auto unit cycling.

Still game has very comfy feel, I found the first 50 turns as Sumeria to be more interesting already than my usual Civ 5 games by far.

Downloading now and wondering if it's even worth the time. Is the AI improved over V? I've heard it's a lot better, though this thread makes it seem like it's still horseshit. I'm assuming the facebook game graphics mean it runs good on toasters? Is it a downgraded Civ V like that space one?

Im not sure how I feel about Civ 6. The map edge scrolling is not nearly as smooth as V, and auto unit cycle is even worse. Overall UI navigation is clunkier as well.

Early units don't make much sense IMO and neither does the tech tree. How are Spearman weak to Warriors? The game just doesn't feel smooth, it doesn't feel like it's polished at all. And on top of that the menus and game setups are horrible. Why didnt they keep the Leader + Civ description layout the same as V during selection? It was fine the way it was.

I also really hate the new health bars and combat previews, along with overall UI movement outlines. I'm 2 hours into a Japan playthrough and I don't even feel hooked like I was the first time I played Civ V because of all these little things.

Stellaris is good for ~5 games with the new expansion. It's kinda like skyrim - it looks good, feels good, but the moment you start digging you realise that you are in a puddle, not an ocean.

If you are looking for modern games:
Endless Space - good but fundamentally flawed game, AI likes to cheat. Combat system is love it or hate it.
ES2 - essentially ES1 with more better everything, but in early beta.
GalCiv2 - very solid title, all round good, biggest flaw is no player input on combat.
GalCiv3 - mediocre but more modern version of the above.
Sword of the stars - Great faction, tech and tactics variety, fuckall attention to "exploit" part of the planetary colonisation.
Sins of a solar empire - RTS take on 4xl quite good, but mostly shines in MP.

Every time you issue a command to a unit, the game chooses a unit that hasn't moved - seemingly at random - pans the camera over to wherever the hell it is and then selects it. In the mean time you can be trying to issue orders to another unit that you selected near the first one and it'll drag your camera around and make you move things where you didn't want to move them and generally just fuck you around.

It's literally like trying to play a game and your dipshit little brother keeps trying to grab the mouse and do whatever dumb thing he wants to do.

I'm gonna pretend this isn't bait. First, barbs, may need tweaking, but one day worth of inexperienced newbies getting smashed by them is not a mark where you make that sort of decision. Secondly, your argument that diety should always be winnable no matter the setup is flat out stupid. If your victory chance on highest settings with near perfect decision making of a grognard is above 90% your game is broken. Why? Because that means grognards, who this difficulty is made for, will eventually get utterly bored of it.

Stellaris has always been good *for a couple of games*, but after that you've exhausted all the content and there's no replayability.
This update will maybe enable you to get a few *more* hours of enjoyment out of it, but I don't think anyone's claiming it addresses the fundamental problem of every playthrough being near-identical.

Also anybody post some examples of how they built the great wall? Kinda not sure how i want to do it that wont be a clusterfuck.
>>
When considering for adjacent districts, apparently districts from other cities or even civilizations works too. I was considering building next to Teddies commercial district, unfortunately he stole the spot where I wanted to plant my commercial district. If that worked it would make for a nice synergy within your cities.

Build your cities close enough along a river, so that both Hansa are adjacent to both commercial districts. It gives a +4 production bonus just from the commercial districts and +1 from 2 adjacent districts, to a +5. for both of them. Pretty neat.

Conceivably, you could even pull it off with 3, though all the Hansa still would only get a +5.
Basically 3 commercial in the center, and each city their Hansa adjacent to 2 of them for a 3x5 bonus.
Pretty neat.

I'm 250 turns into my first game and everyone dislikes me for arbitrary shit like different government type, having a wonder or not being their friend in the first place.

Then ai spams me with stupid trade requests like 2 luxes for open borders and one horse.

I'm not sure if that's a conscious choice or the player is meant to be disliked.

So, what really bothered me in Civ5, and eventually got me to stop enjoying it, was the enemy AI's anti-player bias. The enemies didn't seem like independant players trying to win, but more like a poorly organized enemy team. It was basically impossible to stay on good terms with an AI for long, and eventually the whole world would just take turns denouncing you. Is that still the case in Civ6?

They're not specifically anti-player here. You have to play to their likes, though, and they can be relative, so like Trajan liking if you're expansive? You have to be keeping up with HIS size, or he'll disdain you for falling behind.

Also, warmonger penalties will still make most civs get more and more unhappy with you. You're not going to keep a lot of buddies if you start stomping other civilizations out of the game.

My point is that if you play just tall you'll do fine as long as you're actually ahead in technology and culture and shit but if you aren't then don't complain that people who are both are behind. It's impossible to just be wide for the most part, very few nations have ever been that. I know "tall" exists, and I know they're relevant on the world stage, but ANY civilization in Civ is relevant on the world stage. If you want to actually be relevant, though, you need to lead in tech and culture, like in real life. Otherwise you'll be 'not irrelevant' at best and 'only there because we don't want someone else to conquer you' at worst.

You can afford to go tall for a bit. Settlers kill a population which sets you back on a new district quite a bit and new cities take fucking forever to build anything let alone districts

>>158029704
No you dumb fuck I'm not saying that you can't add civilizations that were historically tall into the game, I'm saying that you can't expect being tall to match being wide in Civilization past a certain point because you slowly grow tall anyway. As I said if you want to be #6-12 then yes, be my guest, build two cities and sit on them. If you want to be tall and be #1-5 then better rev up those great person points and science points because you're gonna need them, you have to lead in science. I did a 5 city run on a large map as Rome by leading in technology by a full era and having like 40 great works by 1800, that's what we're talking about.

I torrented it and I will buy it next month. It was the best Civ release to date when it comes to the level of polish, amount of content and game mechanics' quality.

It's a very good game and anyone who says otherwise is a twat who hasn't played Civ series or is otherwise an irritating cunt whose opinion is meaningless whine anyway.

That's my objective look at the game after playing one epic match.

AI isn't brilliant, but it's nowhere near the level of shit that Civ AI has been so far. I think the AI is very good compared to previous Civ titles, especially Civ V.

UPT actually works now, AI can handle the units somewhat decently, unlike Civ V

Cities and their development is more interesting than in any other civ before

Civ VI has everything the previous Civs had, but the features are much deeper and better thought out. This is the first Civ since II that feels like a solid, good game and doesn't need expansions and fuck load of patches to be actually good.

torrenting it now...
I give credits for them being bold and experimenting new things... but lets be serious
some changes are obvious shit they got wrong in Civ5, like happiness and health are just rebranded from civ4

the district thing is very good idea for city management, not original and still they didn't do it right, having wonders just occupying tiles instead of producing, still having workers to shit around with, they should have gone all the way...

tech tree seems weird and nonsensical in some parts, and from what I've seen from gameplays (and god be praised if I'm wrong) it seems like mid to late game is just boring as fuck as Civ5 was...
