Yet it is comfort itself that is imperiled; Should the Asrai fade from the Old World the beauty of their existence, a recordless history of leisure and frivolity without equal, will disappear, leaving the clamoring, scrabbling bustle of the outside world without counterpoint or enlightening example. I need some fucking tactical help.

How the fuck do I even use ranged units outside of sieges/hills?

I mean these fuckers do so little damage and have such a small impact, that virtually any melee unit can walk up to them and beat/tie them up on regular maps. Handgunners can't even hide behind units.

Every time my fucking crossbows get into melee I ask myself why they weren't just another infantry or cavalry instead.

The only thing they can do is kill opposing ranged units, but so could a cavalry units.

Seriously, why should I take ranged units over more cavalry /infantry?

I don't know who to play as, on the one hand Zuluing it up as savage orcs sounds fun. On the other so does Burning gobbos out of their holes and hitting them with air strikes Nam style sounds great too.

Ranged units get the majority of the kills in my battles and they destroy monstrous units and ranged cavalry. Just engage with infantry and fire from the flanks. Ranged attack ignore melee defence, so they are really good at units who rely on it. But orcs for example are more resistant because they trade melee defence for hp.

Well first of all they shouldn't be getting engaged in melee unless they're a hybrid. it also depends on what your shooting at and with what unit.

Crossbows are great against weak or unarmored units like light cav/infantry/arty crews/units without shields etc, plus being a arrow unit they can shoot over your front lines/into clustered groups.

But they suck verse armored/shielded units. Thats when Handguns are useful with their Armor piercing, armored/shielded don't mean shit when you can blow right through them.

And the main draw to these units is you can reach out and slap the enemy without needing to lose men in a melee. The usual trick is to have them fire as soon as they can, pull them back behind your lines when the enemy gets too close, then once they're stuck in with your front line you pull them out on the flanks and fire into their massed bodies.

Yea, I've tried that. And how do I do that if my enemy has more melee? That's my particular problem, if the opposing side has more melee units they can easily tie up my ranged units sooner or later, and/or render them unable to maneuver into a position where they can contribute.

The ai is good enough that they won't fire unless they have a clear shot. There is still some friendly fire but you'll lose about 1 man for every 20 enemies you kill so it is always worth it. However seige weapons don't give a fuck so you have to watch them. They'll fire into trees too like fucking morons.

Depends really. Ideally any extra damage they can do is a good thing.

Organ/hellfire volley guns are great versus either armor or cav but they are hard to position in a way they wont just get charged by cav.
Canons are great for large monsters and slower/armored units.
Mortars/grudge throws are meant for general anti infantry work, not so great against the more armored units.

The unit cards tend to tell you what can do what so just take your time to read those and unit stats and it will start to click.

And generally you don't want to over do it with arty, they can be very powerful but without support they'll cost you a battle.

Ina way yes, it doesn't help much with combat effectiveness but it does make your units tar pit much longer. Handy verse units that need to fight one-on-one.

I remember a bug when Warhammer was first released where certain units and spells were shit because those units and spells were only good at lower unit sizes (EX: Spell is great against a unit at small unit size, but is fucking terrible against a unit at large to ultra unit size). It has been fixed to some extent, there was a note about it in a patch once at least.

What hasn't been fixed is that all spell with the Bombardment type are still fundamentally broken because their hit-detection is fucked.

What faction do I choose to rebuild the glory of Persia? I see Persia as a starting faction ain't playable, and the closest thing that comes to them is like what, Parthia?

In my Macedonian playthrough Parthia became fuckhuge and posed a serious threat in the east.
Also is there any way to "unlock" the smaller factions as starting factions? Cimmeria looks cozy as fuck and so does Pergamon and other greek colonies in Asia Minor.

I hate it because it makes vampire campaigns so easy. Chaos tends to go flatten the empire rather than vampire lands, and then the late campaign is just resettling the ruins. I don't think I've actually had to fight for Altdorf yet in a vampire campaign.
