Finally got started wuth Witcher 2 and currently at the beginning of chapter 2.

Really really disappointing game. Why did they feel the need to make this one cinematic. Witcher 1 was much more of a video game than this and there was so much more shit to do.

Playing TW2 after TW1 was kinda jarring yeah, all the cinematic QTE infested bs felt out of place. But it does have the best narrative, politics, grey morality and choice and consequence of the series so it's worth it to stick it out.

Anybody got tips for the Griffon?

I can't block. Fine.
I can't keep rolling and dodging while being pursued because nips apparently have a copyright on i-frames. OK.
I can't run away at an effective pace.
I do meager damage in melee.
I do decent damage with Igni 1/6th of the time, but it leaves me without stamina if I get focused.
The crossbow fires with inconsistent timing, auto-aiming misses often. Manual aim takes an age to disengage.
The griffon isn't even stunned long enough to get more than 1 safe hit in.
If he focuses on Vesimir, he always focuses back on me when I approach the rear.

Is the combat shit or am I missing something?

Its attack patterns are really clear, when it lunges at you from above, roll away, when it jumps at you, dodge and immediately hit it, then roll away. Use aard to stagger it and get some hits in. Also use potions, oils and bombs. It only uses a couple of different moves, just learn them and you shouldn't have a problem.

It's a shame that the bad ending makes the most sense in terms of the story of Witcher 3 and also the books (as she is not claimed to have been a popular witcheress by Nimue).

I am really sad they did not make a fourth ending where Geralt and waifus sacrifice themselves so Ciri would escape, thus her becoming the Lady of Time and Space like she was supposed to be.

You're right that the bad ending fits in terms of tone and themes of the rest of the series, but you have to make dumb choices in order to get it. In the end it doesn't feel like a satisfying conclusion but rather an unfortunate outcome of Geralt acting like a dumbass. So yeah, an ending where Geralt and waifus make the ultimate sacrifice would have been much better, it would have given their deaths meaning while still fulfilling the goal of saving Ciri and giving her the freedom to choose her own future.

Though it's not like it matters anyway, even in the bad ending Geralt reverts his suicide in order to obtain a waifushack and live happily ever after in the fairy tale land.

Seeing the story unfold from different perspectives was a good thing though. Yeah sure, on your first run it's impossible to get the whole picture and you'll feel confused a lot. Then you replay it and pick the other path and start piecing everything together. It's a layered complex story which doesn't assume that the players are stupid and need to have their hand held in order to comprehend it.

I fully agree that the gameplay was rather shit and the cinematic QTE approach it took was annoying, but the story itself was finely crafted. You'll probably appreciate it more once you've finished it and replayed it to see the other path as well.

As a farewell party expansion for Geralt, it worked well, but it definitely wasn't up to standards in the long term.

So /wtc/, I need some quick help.

So I'm quite a deal into my first run of TW3. I have two quests that require me to talk to Triss (Soldier Statuette, Redania's Most Wanted (Philippa quest)) but I accidentally read her letter after talking to Radovid activating Now or Never so I could never talk to her about these sidequests.
Now, several hours later I'm at Kaer Morhen, where it asks me to round up my allies for the battle against the wild cunts, and Triss still hasn't reappeared.
When will I be able to address her about these sidequests? Or Yen for that matter?

Will any quests fail if I let the main plot progress too far?

Don't worry, Triss will reappear later and you'll get a chance to do those quests.

Some quests can fail if you progress the story beyond a certain point. On top of my head: Now or Never, A Deadly Plot, Cabaret(also Carnal Sins), quests with Cerys and Hjalmar, Following the thread. I think that's it, but there are possibly some more I can't think of now.

The game will notify you when you reach that stage of the story though and you can return and do them.

Most other quests will be available at all times and will never fail, even after you complete the main story.

Complete Redenia's Most Wanted. If you want to show the crystal to Triss, you can keep the crystal and show it to her or Yen later I believe, but you can even give it to Radovid, it doesn't change anything important.

Also, complete A Deadly Plot, it's essential for unlocking Radovid assassination questline.

Triss will reappear for the battle of KM regardless whether you asked her to stay or sent her to Kovir, and you still have quite a bit of story left and you'll get plenty of chance to talk to Triss and do the statuette quests.

If spawn an ally Ciri and an enemy Ciri, curently the ally Ciri attacks the enemy Ciri but the enemy Ciri will never switch aggro from Geralt no matter the distance.
Is there any way to change this using the console? Using the mod tools?

There have been instances of VAs getting involved with small projects (like the VA from Mass Effect recording an in-game letter for the fans) but it's time-consuming and difficult to coordinate and get done etc, especially for free. So the modders would either have to find people with similar voices and do a whole lot of extra work for something people might hate anyway (because it wouldn't be the same as the real VAs) or just leave them unvoiced. I understand why they'd choose option b.

Yes to answer your first question. What I was getting at was the overuse of glossy cinematic shader which was typical of most CoD games, the lack of atmosphere A lot of what made the first game loveable was sacrificed in making some sections overly linear and overdoing it with the cutscenes and background events.

I got the sense that despite my choices, player agency was stripped from me too many times (When Triss gets captured and Geralt doesn't give two shits and uts a trillion things first before finding her or when you have to re-enact a battle.)

What remains is a strong anti-war case and neither Geralt nor any other of his friends stand to benefit in any way that would greatly concern the player (Since Geralt's history with Yen was never made importnat enough to the player..

The world is fucked regardless of your actions, so a cutscene explaining the political changes at the beginning of The Witcher 3 would do zthe job just fine.

Witcher 1 made me feel satisfied, this one makes me feel hopeless and angry. Also, fuck the XBox.

The Witcheress ending is the one that would be the easiest to get a Ciri game out of if they decide to go full retard and actually make a Ciri game as a sequel to Witcher 3.

Empress ending was well-done though extremely retarded that Ciri of all people would actually go for that goddamn patch since the nilfgaardians basically murdered her entire family and loved ones at Cintra, but she says in Blood and Wine that she may just pass on the empress thing alltogether so Emhyr continues to be emperor because the opposition is already dealt with so he can actually away with crap like this (I kid you now this is how the Witcher 3 writing team thinks now).

As for the bad dad ending, although it makes sense the most in terms of the game's tone and the books, it is already canon that Geralt survives his own suicide because Blood and Wine takes place 3 years after the main game, I really hate Blood and Wine for fucking up that particular ending as it was really good.

So yeah, they can get away with the Witcheress and Empress ending and somehow justify that Ciri did not actually die in the bad dad ending though it would be retarded because Geralt would really feel she was dead or not because they are bound by destiny.
