A two stage trigger just means there's two buttons on the trigger. Pulling it halfway registers as one button, and then pulling it all the way back registers as another button.

As an example, in the A-10, pulling halfway puts on PAC to stabilize the plane. Then pulling all the way fires the gun.

A single stage trigger is just one button.

I don't know how much stock you put into BMS, but at least in there, the only thing stopping an F-16 from doing that is that it just can't carry as many bombs as a B-1/B-2/B-52.

So I got my driving force in today and I've been trying to learn how to DORIFTO in Assetto Corsa

this is... extremely fucking difficult. I thought I was doing well, but then watching replays it's pretty obvious that the rear end is still glued to the ground as usual. This is my first FFB wheel, so I guess I just don't know the tactile cues.

Every time I DO break the ass end out, I just end up spinning, regardless of how much or how little throttle I give. If I try to countersteer into it, the tires instantly regain grip and I just end up sailing off into whatever direction I steered to.

How the fuck do I do this? It's frustrating, every video I've seen is treating it like it's this easy thing, like the steering should be intuitive and shit

Drifting in a sim is a lot harder than it looks. Don't worry about sucking at it. Disclaimer: I still suck at drifting nicely, but I know the basic mechanics of it.

First thing's first: put the shittiest tires you can on a car. By default, Assetto puts slick ass racing tires on everything, even street cars. You want the crappy street tires.


On the subject of countersteering: with a FFB wheel you'll feel the wheel "guide" you into the countersteer angle that the wheels want to be. It's a good guideline, but unless you're got the balance and throttle right on entry, you can't just leave the wheel there. You need to straighten the wheel out to finish your drift before you start spinning out, which means going out of the countersteer angle.

That straightening the wheel out before the spin is what took me so long to figure out. You kind of have to be steering the wheel about a second into the future.

This video explains it way better, and it's where the idea of when to countersteer finally made sense to me. Check 15:54 where they're on a skidpad and they explain understeer and oversteer, how to cause them, how to get out of them, and how to control them. It's a great segment, and because it's an open wheel car you can see both what the wheels and the steering wheel are doing.

So, I never feel my FFB wheel really give me any feedback other than an indication that I'm sliding when I'm trying to drift. Like, it never spins itself around like I see guides and youtube videos say it will- I go into the corner, turn in, stomp the gas to break out the ass, and all the wheel does is get a lot lighter so I have to find the countersteer angle myself. I dunno if that's because my FFB settings are shit or what, but it's kind of frustrating.

Also, does AC have any provision for adjusting ballast on cars? I can get the ass to slide on the E30 Drift fairly easily, but I REALLY want to learn to drift the skyline. I can never get the rear wheels to break without just going into understeer with it, though.

Ace Combat is your best bet but it's not a sim. The old IL2 series had some fantastic user made campaigns for it that had some well made cutscenes from tracks. This is the best you'll likely get in an almost sim game.
