I got to go on my break like an hour and a half early. So, summary time! It was a fairly short session, because I had to leave twice for a fair amount of time. Regardless, here we go.

We left our intrepid heroes on the tail end of their month-long training sessions with their mentors. There was little else to do, so everyone elected to skip to the next day. They headed to the north gate in the morning, and were set to leave with all the other eligible Genin. Naruto, Shikamaru, and several other adult shinobi were there as well, either helping organise the shitty stupid kids, or just talking. Naruto headed on over when he saw the team, and explained that while he could've gone on ahead with the other 'official' delegates, he decided to tag along with the rest of the Genin. Iwa was running their Exam differently to Konoha, so rather than it being a long, drawn-out ordeal, the celebrations and whatnot lasted about a week, but the actual Exam itself should only take a day or so. He says he wouldn't be surprised to see Fugetsu's parents there, and said that there was a lot of money to be made betting on the Genin, not that he would condone that. A short moment later, Tenten ran up, collected herself, and palmed something off to Shikamaru and pointed at the team. She noticed them looking, and shot them a big cheesy grin and two thumbs up, before heading off, whistling. Just as everyone was about to leave, Ilya walked up, flanked by several Chuunin. All of them were holding several large packages, wrapped in cloth. She explained it was a special delivery from Noxus, for Fugetsu. His Prototype Furnace Armour had arrived, just in time.

After getting kitted up - and shooting Waniko a glare after she tried to follow Fugetsu off somewhere 'private' for him to get changed - Ilya retrieved a block of hardwood, some brick, and some granite from a bag a Chuunin had been carrying. Guiding Fugetsu through the process, she had him test his Boil Release-enhanced strength.

Rolling decently on a chakra test, Fugetsu splintered the hardwood and shattered the brick to dust, being unable to break the granite. Regardless, when he turned around to head back to his team, a lot of the other Genin teams seemed a lot less confident about their chances. Ilya said she'd be tagging along, which made Waniko rather happy. Renya rolled a History check to see if he knew about Kakashi being a Chuunin at age 5 or whenever it was, and to see if he could get pointers from him. He rolled well, so yeah, he knew it, but he didn't really, uh, USE that knowledge for anything. He still asked Kakashi for advice, who basically said that communication and teamwork is key in a Chuunin Exam.

He then asked Kakashi about Ley Lines. Kakashi didn't really know much, and said that while the Hyuuga clan might know a bit more, what with being able to see chakra and everything, it was still a very unexplored branch of chakra and ninjutsu. Waniko had to show Kakashi how good she had gotten with stealth, and having rolled a 21, managed to wander alongside him for several minutes without him ever knowing she was there, before she tapped him on the shoulder, startling him slightly. Waniko pointed out her new sensei, Ilya, and Kakashi asked who she was. Waniko told him, and Ilya caught Kakashi looking at her.

As the group of Genin got closer to Iwagakure, the overall feeling was nervousness, as many Genin hadn't been outside Konoha or the Land of Fire before, and many more had parents who could still remember when there was no Shinobi Union, and all the Villages were at each other's throats. Boruto was putting on a brave face, Chouchou was eating, Inojin and Shikadai were playing their games, and Mitsuki and Sarada were talking tactics.

Renya rolled a chakra test to just train with Wind Release over the course of the trip, but rolling a nat 1, ended up with nothing more than paper cuts up and down his arms and hands from dicking around with the sharpest and most-cutting-est Nature Transformation. Finally, the Konoha delegation got to Iwagakure. The Genin were handed off to an Iwa Jounin, as the adults were taken off in another direction. After walking for about fifteen minutes, the Genin could see a massive stadium off in the distance, and they could hear the roar of thousands of people. They group is stopped on the outside of the stadium, and they could see another group of Genin off to the side, who seemed to be from another Village. After a while, the Jounin sorts everyone into teams, and marches them into the arena. If possible, it somehow got even louder, with all the Kage standing on one side of the stadium.

After all the Village's Genin are assembled, Kurotsuchi starts talking. She welcomed everyone to the Chuunin Exams, and then continued on that line for a while, talking about the history of the exam, and what it's meant for shinobi over the years. After a while, she turned to the Genin and addressed them directly. She explained that Iwagakure prizes strength above all else, and got the Jounin to hand out scrolls. She saw the team and came over personally. She said that the Hokage had explained their unique team composition, and their exam had been modified to reflect that. She gave them a scroll that had the Heaven sign on it, and seeing that the others had been handed out, returned to the podium. She explained that there will be a countdown, and when it reaches 0, everyone is to open their scrolls at the same time.

The countdown finishes, and Fugetsu opens the team's scroll. It's blank, other than a single line, that says "The Vault of the Disciple Minotaur". The team looked around, and all the other Genin looked just as confused as them. With a flash, they disappeared however, and when they smoke cleared, they were underground, with lanterns lining the walls. There was a large tablet in front of them, with glowing words, and all it said was "You face the wrath of the Disciple Minotaur". Fugetsu and Waniko speculated about what the 'vault' was and what the 'disciple minotaur' could be, but deciding that there were no answers here, they decided to move on.

That's more or less where we left it, at the beginning of the Chuunin Exams, with the team about to enter the first room.

Eh, I haven't said a lot about what's happening. The team basically attempted to stealth their way through an underground cave, Fugetsu got seen, but he and Renya dropped the fucker before he could yell. Arata considered using Chakra Enhance Strength to blow down a wall, but decided against it, which was silly, because he could've taken two enemies out of the fight. Arata then managed to choke out one of the enemies, but the other survived and called for help. Fugetsu and Renya are back to being unseen, with Waniko and Arata wrapped up in combat.

Summary time! It was mostly combat.

So, we picked up where we left off, with the team about to head out into the main section of the first area of the Chuunin Exams. Deciding to split up, Fugetsu and Arata headed left, with Arata and Waniko heading right. Rolling Stealth checks, and with everyone rolling really decently, they got pretty far. I made them plot where the path they were taking, and then rolled Perception checks for any enemies that had a chance of seeing them. They ghosted past a couple of other Genin, before Waniko and Arata came to a corner. Waniko rolled a 1 on her Perception check to peek around the corner, so she stared directly at the wall for about a minute, before turning back to Arata and making the 'all clear' sign. Arata then rolled a Medicine check to see if Waniko was alright in the head, and concluded that, while he had no hard evidence yet, it was appearing circumstantial that repeated use of the Living Shadow sent users a little bit buts, and resolved to study Waniko in the future and record his observations.

On the third turn of moving into the room, Fugetsu finally got spotted by a Genin, with Renya coming up behind. At the same time, on the other side of the room, Arata deliberated about using Chakra Enhanced Strength to blow through a wall. He decided against it, and he and Waniko chose to tip-toe around the wall instead. This turned out to be a terrible idea, as two other Genin were waiting on the other side of the wall, and if Arata had Hulked out and blasted through it, they would've been insta-KO'd. At the bad guy's turn, two of them attacked Waniko, and one hit, causing 1 damage, and the bottom one attacked Fugetsu, missing his attack. They hadn't had time to yell to their allies yet, and so everyone else was unaware.

Renya continued the player's turn by using Wind Release: Blind Razor Shuriken Jutsu on the Genin that attacked Fugetsu. He created two shuriken for 4 damage each, dropping the Genin to 2HP. Fugetsu then started turn 4 by finishing the Genin off with a fireball to the chest.

Arata then decided to use the chain of his Kursarigama to choke out one of the Genin attacking Waniko. He nat 20'd the Grapple check, also activating Chakra Enhanced Strength. Needless to say, the Genin drops like a bag of fucking bricks.

Waniko's turn came up, and she used Snake's Mouth to blast the other Genin backwards several feet. She was able to keep it quiet, so everybody else was still, at this point, unaware. She caused 7 damage, but the Genin got back up to re-enter the fray.

It was now that everyone rolled Initative, as real combat had begun, and they had failed to take out everyone who had seen them silently. Fugetsu went first, moved up, and took a peek around the corner, leaving it there and not pushing on out.

On the bad guy's turn, two more attacks were made against Waniko. Both miss. This is not surprising, considering she has AC16.

Arata then attempted to use his Chakra Enhanced Strength to punch one Genin into another, knocking them back. He crit-failed his attack, so, I dunno, he punched himself in the jaw or something. Use your imagination.

Waniko then used Water Release: Swirling Spear Jutsu on the two ninja that she could see. She causes 6 damage, which is enough to knock one of them the fuck out, and stumble the other one back a bit. She then attempted to throw a shuriken as her Free Action, but nat 1'd it, resulting in a decent recreation of that South Park scene of Butters getting a shuriken stuck in his eye.

Renya then decides to have a go at a Perception check, ALSO rolling a 1, and essentially tapping Fugetsu on the shoulder, mouthing 'I'll take a look', and then staring at the ground for several seconds.

Fugetu's turn rolled around again, and he used Water Release: Water Whip Jutsu on the Genin that was within range, pulling him closer, but failing to draw any chakra from him.

The two Genin on the north-east side of the room launched an attack at Arata each, with one hitting and causing 3 damage. The one that got pulled at the bottom also missed his attack at Fugetsu.

Arata then decided to launch another Chakra Enhanced Strength punch against the Genin, landing the hit and smashing one backwards into the other, causing the second one to hit a stalagmite in the ground. He caused 5 damage to the first one, and 3 to the second one. It was that this point that I realised he had been using CES wrong, and had been giving himself extra damage. No big deal, however.

Waniko used Swirling Spear again on the two Genin in front of her. One passed the dodge with a Nat 20, but failed the DEX check to snag the other spear out of the air to protect his teammate. She rolled a 5 for damage against the other one and knocks him the fuck out. She uses her second action to throw a kunai, hitting, causing the max damage of 4, and taking the other Genin - the one who dodged the spear - out of the fight as well.

Renya's turn resulted in him tagging the Genin in front of him with an Explosive Tag, and then using Wind Release: Air Detonation Jutsu, buffed with 2CP instead of 1, to knock him back next to his ally for the explosion. The Genin managed to peel the tag off and throw it aside, but he still took 4 damage from the Air Detonation, and then him and his ally took another 4 damage each from the tag itself.

We left it there. Several Genin down. A handful left. And then some time to explore the area and figure out what to do.

There will be no game next week, as Planewrong has army shit to do. Maybe I'll plan my other campaign for other players, who knows.
