About com lenght

Characters in BB tend to have more ressources than GG which allows them to easily extend combis. For exemple, Potemkin only has his meter to extend his combo. When he hits you with 2K he gets a very small combo unless he spends 50 meter. If he does, then he has nothing for the next combo. If he doesn't have meter to begin with, he won't necessarily reach 50 meter off a 2K combo so he still won't have a ressource for the next combo. Tager on the other has has his regular meter, his Spark Bolt and magnetism. When he hits you with 2B, if he has any of these ressource he can extends his combo. Since he has three ways of extending his combos, he'll go into longer vombos more frequently. Plus, he'll always magnetize you during his combos, so he can do it again if he gets another combo. And that goes for a ton of character. Rachel can use meter OR wind. Valkenhayn can use meter OR wolf. Relius can use meter OR Ignis. Bullet can use meter OR heat. And so on. And if they have both, then you get even longer combos. This type of dynamic doesn't really exist in GG because most characters only have meter and no additional ressource. There are exception like Johnny and Jam. But in GG you must earn the additional ressource. Johnny starts with no level, Jam with no card. And you only get it by doing a certain requirement. Rachel, Valkenhayn, Relius, Kokonoe, Hazama all start with their ressource (granted there are exceptions, Bullet starts with no Heat). And once used, those ressources will simply come back with time, no need to do anything special (Again except Bullet. Explains why she's shit)
Characters who don't have unique ressources tend to simply have longer combos by design, like Noel, Celica or Nu. Noel can do 2B 6A 6C 5D 5C 6A 5C 6A 236A. Midscreen, meterless, low starter.
Also in GG you tend to get very small combos off of throw. In BB throws are specials cancellable and lead to full juggles.

Why did things go so horribly wrong?

Why do high level Necalli players always go for V-Skill when the opponent launches a fireball instead of nullifying it with his headbutt (which also deals a bit more damage)?

I thought it was for more V-Gauge (bit of V-gauge taken from the V-Skill hitting the opponent + the fireball hitting you), but I even see already V-Triggered Necalli doing that.

What seems weird but not surprising to me is that the developers at Capcom and Dimps clearly have different ideas of what SFV should be.

The director of Dimps (who also directed SFIV and SSFIV) said he wanted the game to feel more neutral based and "back-and-forth" and less combo-centric. While the latter came out as expected from his part, SFV is still definitely not neutral based.

If you want to make the game more neutral based, you should improve the tools that make the neutral actually good and exciting. If the game is so neutral based, then how come corner carry is so important? If they truly wanted to make the game feel more like SF2 in terms of pacing and neutral play, how come there are still character like Mika that are built around 50/50 mix-ups rather than actual neutral play?

The fairytale that SFV is neutral and footsie based like SF2 needs to stop and get forgotten. That's not what the game truly is. And looking at the fuck-ups in other aspects of the game, I think the developers and battle planners don't even know neither.

Who the fuck knows what went on during the development of this game? It's such a clusterfuck. Remember how it was originally supposed to be fairly fast-paced in its initial concepts? I'm guessing they had one thing in mind and then some Capcom execs dropped by and told them to change shit around so it all revolves around some very basic elements so new players can understand it.

I also wonder if they started working on SFV on Capcom's now dead engine and they had to move everything to UE4 in a short time span. Everything screams awful development period. It's like a building that is always one wind gush away from collapsing completely.
