Apart from that, there are relationship flags in the emails for Kurisu. Get none and get all the way to the end and you get the Mayuri ending. Get 1-5 and you get the Kurisu ending. Get six and you get the true ending.

Don't bother with the Mayuri or Kurisu endings. The true ending is just a continuation of the latter and Mayuri's ending is just a couple lines of dialogue.

Also, drawing a comparison between F/SN as a VN and Zero as an anime is false equivalence; I think you'll find that the Zero LN is packed with content you would consider bloat (lengthy exposition on Servant abilities, details on what food Kiritsugu is eating and why is he eating it - the works). Urobuchi and Nasu have remarkably similar writing styles, actually.

As for the other Servants, if you're going to deny the legitimacy of characters like Medea and Herc (the latter being well-characterized despite never speaking outside of one short scenes), you're going to have to form specific arguments against them.

I've gotten really into Shirobako and played a bit of "Eroge! Sex and Games" but its far more sex than plot and that's not really what I like to play a lot of.
