Calm your persecution complex and take a few deep breaths to get rid of that autistic streak.
Let's think about this for a minute.

Most developers:
- Have to wait until release to cash in on what they've created.
- Have to work according to budget and/or schedule.
- If delays happen, you not only risk investors pulling out, but for the project to be cancelled or released in a horrible state.

CIG on the other hand:
- Has a steady flow of income, right now.
- They are in development.
- No timetable / investors / fire under their feet. People keep buying ships anyway.

It is like an insanely huge pre-sale, where CIG has 'pre-sold' the game as well as assets within. They are profiting from this now and have been for years. When they actually finish the game, they basically give backers what they've already paid for. Any new revenue comes from new buyers only or ingame credit purchases.

With this in mind, and the willingness of players to buy ships (just look at the Polaris sale), what incentive does CIG have to actually finish the game, like ever? They can just keep the development cycle indefinitely and keep profiting. That's not all, they actually benefit from keeping a very 'general' unfocused development cycle. (Like announcing 'Spectrum' and working on that) and delivering small bits here and there.

I honestly I am at the point where I feel CIG make more money now than they will after they've actually released something. I think we're that far in at this point.

I started thinking this way after CitCon where we get shown these new things they're working on that nobody has asked for, and they still haven't delivered old content.

Ship sales are nice, I guess. I would rather see progress on the game I spent over 500 USD on though. Citcon was alright.

Just not up to my expectations as an older backer. Though, I am in this in for the long haul. I do believe that Chris Roberts intends to deliver a product he can be proud of, though, not one that everyone can be.
>>
>>157116115
So what's the incentive for orgs to move from their already established third party social infrastructure (forums, VOIP / IM client) to a proprietary system run by CIG?

It's wasted development.
>>

>What's the incentive

Not having to have extra shit running on your computer. Not having to use third parties to organize everything. Everyone always bitches about having to use TS/Mumble and now DIscord. I hardly think the Terrapin rescues ground troops with intent for surgery in the ship, it's just there to rapidly transport the troops out of the hot zone and deliver them to a larger ship where troops would be able to get the care they need.

>>157121671
I think the opposite, the ships commercial way gay and REALLY poorly timed, but will be forgotten about quickly, selling ships is what star citizen does to fund itself, everyone who knows anything at all about the game knows this. Further any time someone talks about the ships sales you can flip right around and point out that this is a triple A game you can get for 45 bucks with no subscription and everything can be acquired through gameplay, even the knicknacks and flair items.

The missed dates on the other hand will be pointed to again and again, and to bring them up is a fair if somewhat uninformed criticism, SC has Missed basically every realease date they have ever announced, because they always predict things will be easier than they are. Look at all the gaming Pres articles out right now about "Squadron 42 delayed indefinitely" that's the drum theyre all gonna beat because they know it'll get more attention, no one gives a shit that CIG sells ships, it's old accepted news that whales like me are willing to part with silly sums of money for Jpegs, no one really cares or is surprised about that anymore, and the only way that story couyld be raised from the dead is if they sold a $5000 cruiser or carrierNO SANDI DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT Where every time CIG misses another Projected release it is a New and Exciting failure to to pick at.
>>
>>157115852
>They can just keep the development cycle indefinitely and keep profiting.

That was already the plan. Game packages are going to bundled with mid-range ships (constellation price range) and sold after release drops. They will also continue to improve upon existing ships in-universe, presumably to be sold in the cash shop too.
>>

No more Aurora/Mustang packagers after release, the starter ship will be a Constellation?

And where did they mention that they will continue to sell ships after release. We've heard the opposite many times, that the only thing you'll be able to buy is limited amounts of UEC every so often.
>>
>>157124025
>No more Aurora/Mustang packagers after release, the starter ship will be a Constellation?
No no. Players will continue to be given the option of purchasing larger ships at the start of the game just like they are now.
>And where did they mention that they will continue to sell ships after release.
Not ships, packages. I will try to find the link.
>>
>>157123806

>The missed dates on the other hand will be pointed to again and again, and to bring them up is a fair if somewhat uninformed criticism, SC has Missed basically every realease date they have ever announced

We are quite literally at the point where anyone who follows this game stopped caring. I expected Squadron 42 to be both broken up into pieces and pushed back to 2017 months ago.

I was pretty fucking pissed off at the CitizenCon presentation due to how mind-numbingly boring it was. The ship commercial was nothing more to me than some semi-in-fiction announcement for the Polaris sale. I was still pissed around the time the demo video was flying through trees on a Savannah.

It took me until the demo got to the Dragonflies to stop being mad as fuck. Then I started to get some Far Cry 2-esque vibes from it and started being impressed. By the end I was still mildly disappointed about no SQ42 gameplay but I can't really say the whole presentation was horrible with a straight face.

>Look at all the gaming Pres articles out right now about "Squadron 42 delayed indefinitely"

>>
>>157124221
they don't matter to US, they matter to the new backers and normies we will need to continue attracting to keep funding development. Shit isn't free and while $128 or w/e we are at now million is a lot funding needs to keep coming in to keep the project healthily chugging along. It's not like they still have all that money in a big pile waiting to be spent.

I actually like the demo I've watched it a couple times on youtube now and still thinks its neat as hell. What I didnt like was them waiting until they were on stage and showinf stuff to announce the delay, they didnt know the demo fo SQ42 wanst going to be ready, but they DID know the delay was coming and they should have said that in a letter from the chairman, no literally on stage primetime right after a commercial asking for more money. That is like the worst possible time to do that and gives the goons smarties and "press" a big pile of ammo to work with.

The articles and appearances only matter in terms of the outward facing public perception of the project and right now that perception is kind of a running joke and it just got a new punch line. However that joke costs us potential backers, I know I have literally a dozen friends who only spout memes and crack jokes when I mention SC.

You ever heard the phrase "there's no such thing as bad publicity" before? CIG have rock solid evidence that every time a clickbait smear article comes out their funding spikes. Every time Derek Smart goes on a new tirade their funding spikes. A bunch of controversy surrounding a story made of 50% bullshit makes them more money than story that says the game looks neat but it's not done yet.

How modular is it going to be I wonder and will I be able to socket a BFG turret or turrets into the space occupied by the hangar. Seem like a no brainer to me. I was pretty much going to get a corvette barring it look like complete ass or it costing a thousand dollars. But what I really want still is a prop Turret boat with a hard focus on gunnery.

SC seems to have two scale of direct fire weapon thus far, rapid fire pea shooter designed for popping fighters and capital class superweapon the ships is built entirely around?

We have Yamato Cannons and AA guns, where are the 6 8 and 10 inchers? I want fire duels dammit!

You damn goons!

>constellation price range

>>157124121
>Players will continue to be given the option of purchasing larger ships at the start of the game just like they are now.

>>157124360
I've seen this interview before and I remember nothing about the constellation being mentioned. I watched it again up to about 11:20, hopefully that's the section you meant.

>I'm going to start with my Aurora,

Fine, this was known. Might exclude the LX I guess.

>I'm going to start with my Hornet or something

Is this where you're getting the "Constellation price range" thing from? This depends heavily on the variant he means. The F7C-M SuperHornet is a higher price than the Taurus, sure, but the leap from the price of a F7C civilian model to a Taurus is pretty big. Whether the F7C-M SuperHornet will be available post-launch as a starting option is debatable, since it's only available during certain periods such as the Polaris sale that's happening now.

CIG don't have a public list of "starter ships" that will be tied to packages post-release, at least not yet. Reliants are likely candidates since they have been called "tier 2 starter ships", and there's some cross-over between the term when it's used to denote a ship which is the first or smallest ship which is dedicated to a role, for example the Prospector being a "starter mining ship", even if it does cost about the same as an F7C IIRC.

Personally I can see them keeping all normally-available ship packages, and making everything that can normally be CCU'd into available as "starter" packages, as we know CCU options will end on release. This includes "high-end" packages like the Completionist, because who doesn't fucking love money? No evidence either way though. We'll see.

To me, if Star Citizen really does accomplish everything it has promised it is going to achieve, it will easily be my favorite game of all time.

The sheer amount of possibilites in this game, all the things you can do. The scope, scale and level of detail. This has never been attempted at this level before. From a technical standpoint, it would certainly be the most massive and complex game ever made.

No, they're not right, they ignorant of how the real world works and throw shitfits when it does not bend to match their fantasies.

Game development takes time. I backed for a game in 2012 fully expecting it to not come out till 2015 or 16, if thats 17 or 18 so be it. Thems the breaks. It will come out eventually and when it does it will be better for having been done properly instead of half assed and rushed out to meet an arbitrary deadline.

Delays don't make me salty, poor handling of delays and deceptivness about delays and feeding trolls by tieing together a ship sale with a delay announcement makes me salty
>>
>>157125054

Your point about announce the delay on-stage is spot on.

They should've had CitizenCon rehearsed and ready to go a week or two in advance. If there was an issue with showing Squadron 42 they could've clarified that beforehand.
It was really just a PR fuck-up on their part.
The right approach should've been

>Prepare weeks in advance so you know exactly what works and how it works
>Keep stuff aside as a back up in case something major miraculously breaks on the night
>Announce any possible delays as soon as you're aware and explain what they are

>>157133683
I'll admit that I'm a true believer, I get frustrated and impatient and assmad now and then about the day to day week to week stupidity, but I have no doubt that the end result will be worth the money and time.

I bought a Polaris cus I wanted one, I wanted an Idris back in the day but couldn't quite swing the and also wasn't sure I'd have the crew, The Idris got big and fat and has passed well beyond what I want for a ship, at least at first. Now along comes the small fast turret boat I wanted and it even has sub style torpedo tubes, which is something Ive been pining for all along. I'm not really a fan of the RSI design language, but the polaris is the least insect like of their line so I can deal with it. I'd prefer it didnt have a fighter though, pocket carrier autism strikes again. Which is why I hope we'll have the option to do something else with the hangar slot. What I really want is something along the lines of a second world war American destroyer, a couple medium sized guns a couple torpedo launchers and a healthy amount of flak, thus far the polaris is the closest option. In the modern world every ship can hold a helicopter I guess.

I bought the Polaris during the pre-sale, for $625, cus concierge. No, I'm not admiral dogbriati and am in fact one of the people behind the "drop everything and hi-jack/crash that autists javelin" pact.

I haven't bought anything with actual money for almost two years, I've just been swapping around store credit and LTI tokens, this sale(actual sale omg!!) finally gave me an excuse to throw more money at chris's dream and ben's cheese fund.

The battlecruiser will be slightly smaller than the Bengal. What I was is about the size of the Polaris, maybe a little smaller, but not much, Basically what I want is a modular cousin of the polaris with some slightly bigger guns and a few more torpedoes instead of a bloody hangar. Preferably made by like Drake or Aegis.

A while back when they were soliciting Idea about the polaris I made pic related as a suggested style sheet.

He didn't get a javelin when they first went on sale then threw a literal week long multi-spectrum tantrum until he got one, then used his newly acquired internet notoriety to whine and bitch about literally everything that crossed his mind regarding star citizen on ground that if he could cry enough for CiG to let him give them $2500 then he could cry enough to get anything he wanted changed as well. He persisted in this notion for at least like 6 months to a year.

We made a pact In the golden age of SCG to keep an eye on him, and whenever he tries to pull that javelin out of port with a crew of NPCs(because he is a friendless autistic manchild) one of the thing he whined about is how he should be able to fly his 40 man crew 50 guns destroyer completely alone. All existing Rivalries and contests will be set aside, profit and loss will not be considered. We will band together, we will disable and board his javelin, we will take him alive and lock him in his own brig, and then we will fly his javelin into the nearest star, planet, asteroid, black hole or other convenient celestial object.

Evocati are testing flight model changes (affects SC) and SM is coming in 2.6 (apparently). both these things are happening now because they have to get that first S42 mission polished and shit.

That would probably be relatively easy, and would also be more fucking boring than capture the core. Capture the core is crap, sure, but nobody really cared about capture the core to begin with. There wasn't a capture the core module which literally sold people on the game.

CIG would get fucking SLAMMED for making such a shitty simplistic impression with their first big game-mode reveal in months (years?) after talking endlessly about fidelity, detail and mechanical complexity. This is the same deal as the S42 demo to some extent, maybe even more so. People will immediately compare SM to COD[sequel], battlefield one, and other AAA shooters, and it would be fucking terrible.

I mean, it's still going to be fucking terrible when it finally drops, because it'll probably be buggy as shit, and a bunch of lvlcap fanboys will come crawling out of the woodwork and whine about everything. But a poor first impression would be disastrous.

We have two major impressions to make, S42 polished gameplay, and playable alpha FPS module. These are both fucking important to get right, and they only get one shot at it. A lot of people are going to play one round of SM, or look at the first "polished" version of the S42 demo, and if there isn't a level of competency evident, they'll think "shit game" to themselves and quit, never to come back.

See when I think of "price range" I think more like the way the F7C, Cutlass and Freelancer were meant to all be in the same price range, offering a sliding scale of more combat, less trading, to more trading, less combat.

Regardless, the final list of starter ships has not been released and won't be for some time. Likely very close to release.

Like I said originally, Star Marine was a mistake. I'm sure Roberts is completely regretting even offering such a thing, because I'm certain that Star Marine is actually taking away development time from more important things.

True, they would still need to develop the FPS portion of the game, but making that CODlite within the game I'm certain is just detrimental in the long run.

There's no such thing as a realistic timeline when you're making a game that keeps increasing its scale. The entire purpose of going full crowdfunded is so he didn't have to answer to a publisher like Microsoft telling him to shit the game out by Christmas.
>>
>>157156846

They've pretty much dropped any timelines for shit outside of rough ballparks for shit. After 3.0 comes out they're figuring they'll have each new update (3.1/3.2/etc) out every 2-3 months

Squadron 42 doesn't have a date anymore, and I bet it won't be out until the end of 2017 at best

Chris said it recently somewhere. He wants to have a FPS combat game mode you can jump right into when you start the game, without having to launch the PU, get in a ship, and travel to a station to enjoy. Plus when 3.0 comes out and death and losing your ship have consequences, people can play this game mode without having to worry about that.

I like the setting but I am not really interested in running around shooting on foot as a mission. And the population on these planets will probably be extremely spread out

but I wouldn't mind joining some autism org and doing 40 player nomad removal missions like in Arma. I hope they have collision with the trees and the AI has trouble seeing through trees and camouflage but that's probably asking too much

Technically, death and loosing your ship in the PU has consequences now. You have to pay aUEC to respawn the ship, you have to waist time getting the ship and you have to spend time getting back to what you were doing.

>>
>>157162549
Nah Polaris is designed in lore after the Merchantman, which is a notorious black market trading vessel and blockade runner. Since it's made for speed and patroling, they most likely kept in mind the idea of hunting BMMs with it.

Polaris will be faster
>>
>>157162609
>MM will likely be loaded with cargo anyways
To be fair the Polaris will probably be loaded down with an oversized fighter in the bay and spare torpedo reloads.

Greater consequences in 3.0 than in 2.0. With the cargo system, you'll lose everything on board if your ship gets blown up. With the basics professions and mechanics in place people will be taking the PU more seriously, so there will be less griefers and people going to Kareah.

>>157163797
Crysis was a multimillion dollar AAA western production

>>157163914
yeah, in a basic way. foliage has a transparency value and if you're behind enough of it to overcome the AI's ability to see through that transparency value they won't see you

most of the time that feature don't work because of shitty mods

IMO it's best in CoC (the standalone mod) where you could low crouch in a bush at night and a bandit could walk right past you and keep going until he reaches the point where he last saw you and stares at the ground

After release there won't be any concept sales. They'll announce a new ship and say and later put it in the game for players to earn.

The only things you'll be able to spend real money on after release is a game package with a certain ship (price depending on what ship you choose), and a capped amount of UEC which will reset after a period of time.

Guys

Guys I want into Star Citizen

Is the Constellation Andromeda pack worth it.
>>
>>157176254
I'm pretty sure I've read they can go up into orbit, it was just a quest limit to stop him putting the constellation next to the wreck
>>
>>157177093
I'd argue Freelancer is the best all-round ship to start with. It has decent cargo space and weaponry.
>>
>>157177093
just buy the pack that gets you Star Citizen and Squadron 42 access when they're released, no sense taking away the experience by buying a larger ship
>>
>>157177093
Just get a starter pack like the mustang, you can always upgrade it later.
All ships are free to fly for citcon so you might as well try them first.

The game is buggy as fuck right now though, netcode isn't done so the "universe" is limited in fps even with a good rig.
Dogfighting and racing modes are all I ever do in SC for now.
>>
>>157177269

That's what I'm planning to do

Get a starter ship and earn myself a bigger ship through piracy with my friends who are also gonna run with starters
>>
>>157177093
if youre doing it this week, just go cheap for access to the game.

backers have every ingame ship available right now for the week and you can figure out what you really want to buy instead of videos and .jpgs.

then if you want you can upgrade into that ship for the difference between that ship and your starter ship.

CiG listed the ships they will be working on for the next year or so and the Bucky isn't on any of those slides. Most of the Drake ships should be out by 4.0; sometimes 2017 if things go as planned which they wont because Chris is bad at deadlines.

Here is a collection of the slides, Anon.

I don't notice any acknowledgment of reworks of existing ships like the Aurora, 300i, and Cultlass.

>>157190554
I'm pulling this out of my ass right now, but I assume that the ships on the slides are just those they definitely want to roll out along with that particular patch. Based on them not including the Cutlass rework for example I'd guess that they just listed the bare minimum and may release more ships than that.

I'm guessing the Bucc will pop up sooner rather than later simple because it's a very simple design with virtually no interior space to model. If I were to hazard a guess I would say we'll see the Bucc shortly after we see the reworked cutlass, simply because once they have made the Cytlass and Cat they will have a large portion of the work already done to model the Bucc in terms of materials,. style guides and reusable parts.

I assume, using maximum meme arrows, that the slides indicate the desired timeline of ships. Things could go faster once style guides get into place and CiG is able to reuse parts off other ships. Or it could go slower. I seriously dont expect the RSI Orion to be out with 4.0 a year from now.

>>157190864

You seemed to have dropped pic related from your post, Anon. Let me help you with that.
>>
>>157190864
I am kinda glad the jewmobile got pushed back as far as it did, it's going to be the ship that defines the aesthetic and functional design language of an entire race and I'd much rather they gave it a lot of thought rather than just rushing it together as a side project to get it out there.
>>
>>157191287

Once CiG gets things working better I would imagine that ships will start to snap together like Legos. I can imagine the ship itself would be like GalCiv, just slap on pre-exsisting parts to a central hull. The tricky parts is hooking up all the systems and getting them to work properly.

>>
>>157215404
Speaking of 2.6 flight mechanics/balance-
I was under the impression that the rebalancing was partly due to people complaining the ships feel like they have no "weight" to them - has anyone flown the Vanguard Warden in 2.5? That thing feels heavy as fuck, and also dull as fuck because of it.
>>
>>157216729
I haven't heard that, I thought it was mostly to stop jousting and bring the average combat distance down, closer to what you'd see in robert's previous games.
>>
>>157216054
It won't be in game ever because they have much bigger fish to fry on their 10 year plan first.
The problem is not just that the ship hud is tied to those settings, but that the entire station menu hud is as well down to character portraits. they pretty much need to rebuild the gui to split the two just so we can change one and leave the other alone, let alone adding sliders for each element, which should have been in the game from the start.

I really don't see the fun in using a joystick in a space game but I think that's because it feels so forgiving and the fact you have gimbals that don't work well with a stick. I'm pretty happy using kb+m in SC and my flight setup in a flight sim.

They've talked about introducing a "powerful tool" to allow players to customize their ships, and that it's in the work but not ready for release.

Imagine if they let you use a similar tool and it also can be used to customize Armor and Weaponry.
>custom camouflage
>ships, armor, and FPS weapons in org colors
>player made specialized camo for different planets and enviroments
>custom non-practical paintjobs and skins
>the ability to sell your designs on the ingame market
>players getting known for their talented skins and very effective camouflage
>their skins selling at a premium and taking comissions for custom orders

I'd be totally into it if they did it, they're working on the tool already and I can see CR expanding it into a profession like weapon overclocking.

At first at least it went fast.
Remember the 1300 m/s cruise speed? That was amazing, I was willing to forgive all of its other faults when it was fast. But now it flies like a pregnant hippo rollerblading on an hockey rink. It didn't need to turn when it could outrun most fighters. And with the number of engines the thing has, it really should be able to outrun fighters.

>>
>>157224770
That's the problem, the vanguard, the cutlass, lancer, connie... They should all be able to outrun hornets in straight line. But cig keeps using nonsense numbers for ship speed. Even the new 2.6 speeds are screwed up because the starfarer has a faster cruise speed than two thirds of the ships in the game despite having a realitvly weak thrust/mass ratio.
>>
So here's the shit I mined out of the Cutlass Redesign AMA:

>Cutlass will probably get 5% bigger
>Turret will be able to be slaved to pilot just like a hornet
>Rear cargo ramp may be removed in favor of caterpillar-esque side doors
>Will definitely be able to fit a dragonfly
>Will take a more angular shape more true to the original concept instead of the current curved shape
>Trashcan thrusters will be removed
>docking collar is axed for now. May come back or may be replaced with something that serves a similar function

>docking collar is axed
RIP piratefags
>>
>>157225058
and? it's not gonna be that special, anything inbetween the landing zones is just gonna be a procedural desert
>>
>>157226756
It's because pirates are less of the asking for permission to dock, more eva over and blow the lock kind of people.

It makes more sense with the way the game is now that EVAing over through a hole is better than docking
>>
>>157227171
It will be a problem for the Cutlass Red though

You need a way to rescue people without exposing them to vaccum
>>
>>157227171
That point of it was so that you could board without having to EVA, which was supposed to make the cutlass special

EVA exposes you, and blowing a hole in the ship isn't always ideal. You could accidentally destroy it or the cargo, and def not the path you want to take if you just want to hijack the ship. Plus white knights will think twice about blowing up your cutlass if you're attached to your prey.
>>
>>157227405
Cutlass Red rework will definitely feature a docking collar since it'll get permission to dock and the ship won't be frantically flying away trying to avoid boarders.

But seriously how often do you really expect people who need rescued to be in a ship that still has life support and a vacuum? It's designed to recover downed fighter pilots who wear preasurized suits and give them medical attention once inside, not to rescue entire crews of people from ships much larger than it's self
>>

DigitalPirate.jpg
134KB, 1055x791px
>>157227664
Cutlass's point isn't to board with a docking hatch, that's an addon to the Cutlass. The default cutlass isn't supposed to come with one, only the exclusive Cutlass with the docking collar being an addon. Somewhere along the line they gave the cutlass a docking collar when it's not supposed to have one.

Let's talk turret,
I find it sad that people are so kin to dismiss any turret as being weak stuff just because they are barely placeholder right now.

Do they realize that it is actually tricky to NOT make them cheaty ? The only reason they aren't right now is that CIG locked them on the ship-grind even though it would be perfectly acceptable to assume the computer auto-stabilize the turret or track a target a little.
If they followed the global-grind like other game do, it would be hard to NOT hit a target (meaning you need to limit traverse speed)

Even the "shitty" turret placement can rather be to give a fair chance to attacker, because even a small 2x S1 could be like a M50 that rarely lose its lock and that can't be hit before the stronger shield is down.
Then there's shitty placement and there's "several turrets looking at you"

If you need to always be moving in a blind spot.
If you need a good fighters (or two weak) just to drop the turreted-ship shield.
If your limited store of missile is precious to drop one shield (fast of course).
If fighting a snub fighter along already increase the difficulty tenfold.

Then I would say a ship is well balanced, AI crew or shitty-targeting-computer-9000.

note : With the new mount logic we still can't rely on the data given. I wouldn't be surprised if all fighter lost a great deal of firepower (looking at you super-hornet).

After what I have understood, everybody kinda says that pedals are the best controller improvement you can buy. Either a MFG Crosswind or CH Products Pro Pedals.

So my plan is to buy a MFG Crosswind, but at the moment I'm looking for a stick with very little stiffnes/spring force.

My old Saitek X45 got a terribly hard spring and is a nightmare to play with.

As far as I know, the CH Fighterstick/Combatstick got some of the most smooth and light movements of the stick.
Somebody in a review I saw a while ago said that the stiffness of the Combatstick was about the same stiffness as the Saitek X52.

Is the X52 very light or is the Combatstick/Fighterstick kinda stiff?

If the Combatstick/Fighterstick is kinda stiff, what about the VKB Fat Mamba then?

someone help make sense of this.

I haven't been following this game that much, but I know it's about 2 years away from launch and it's still in alpha, yet you can buy ships for hundreds of dollars...even thousand.

are you guys so certain they will deliver on their promise that you are okay with spending literally an entire paycheck on digital ships for a game years away? What are you guys seeing that I'm not.

I'm not expecting it to go head to head with fightercraft I'm just pointing out that 2xS2 if a pathetically tiny amount of firepower, thats the armament of an Aurora MR, a craft that should not be a credible threat to a military bomber, and it also bring up the etern question of If I have 7 people to man a retaliator would I be better off If two of those people were just flying the MR/Mustang Alpha that literally anyone who has the game owns anyway. The answer to that question should not be yes, but right now it is.

>"Show up unload and leave"
You're almost right, however, right now It cannot do that because its is so slow. It has neither the speed to attack and escape nor the firepower to fight and defend itself. It has a massive cost and crew requirement for it size and even with the Torpedos is likely delivering less punch than an Andromeda manned by one human and no NPCs. The tally can get at best 6 s2 guns on any one target and Carries 5 S6 Torpedos, To have that capacity requires 1 human and 6 other humans or NPCs

The Andromeda's Pilot alone has 4 S5 mounts and something like 60 missiles at his disposal even if his turrets are unmanned. Yes his missiles are smaller but he has 10 of them for every torpedo the Retaliator mounts.

What I'm getting at is that in terms of cost benefit ratio the tally is hugely demanding in resource terms to operate and yet offers very little for that cost. The fix to that problem of ratio is to either increase the power of the retaliators turrets to the point where they are worth more than having a Mustang escort you or reducing the number of crew neccessary to operate the retaliator effectively. If neither of those is deemed possible then it needs a significant increase in speed to the point where making a torpedo run and then escaping by simple speed is a viable option. You're mislabeling it as a submarine, The tally is not at all stealthy.

Right now the tally is little more than a wasteful coffin for 7 people.
>>
>>157234951
there is no guarantee. it's a croudfunded project, every cent we spend on the game is at risk. if you spend money on this today it's more to help fund the game (while also having ships ofcourse) but it's more to support the game than to actually play the game any time soon.

that said there are people who spend ~$9,000 on this and feel entitled to the game of their dreams.

they're extremely transparent, dare i say honest about their development process. theres a few dozen hours at least of in-depth development videos demos, etc that are mostly unedited. Personally if they didnt have so much transparancy i wouldnt be taking the game seriously yet

point is it's not a ship thats worth using solo, youre gonna get fucked up. you can do what you want but the intended role is for use in large group gameplay in an organized effort against large groups with large ships

Retaliator will be the sleeper hit needed by every Org to kill capitals without being a massive financial loss when downed like the Polaris, mainly because there will be enough fighters to escort it.

Also is there anything to do on the planets you land on? Ive found a few settlements here and there but thats about it.

If you have to operate with escort you are tied to a carrier. Instead of flying the retaliator why would you not fly your escorts and a wing of 7 One manned Gladiators for a total of 56 Size 5 torps instead of 6 size 6s.

If you are not tied to a carrier because you're escorts are vanguards why would not just fly three vanguard harbingers with far superior total firepower?

My point is that the Tally as a specialist craft is not good enough at its specialist role to justify use at all. It does not have a strike niche which is not better filled by a generalist craft, Doubly so now that the polaris literally does everything the Retaliator does but better. It has range firepower protection and unless the retailiator changes its speed will be comparable too. The retaliator has 8 Primary engines, and yet only SCMs at 165 M/S. It does not bring superior punch or speed or defensive fire or surivivability or flexibility to the table, and it is hugely costly to operate. Relative to every other craft in a similar role. You could skeleton Crew a Polaris corvette with the same Crew as a retaliator.

Define extremely fast. When First released the Tally wnt 550 in SCM and 1300 in cruise and was infact the fastest ship in a straight line.

I'd be ok with stuff like the 350, m50 and similar crat being able to keep up or overtake, but If its not faster then the Hornet, Sabre and Vanguard then its too slow. If its defense is outrunning fighters then it needs to be able to outrun fighters.

E:D is fine because its control scheme is very casual and its designed around being fighter jets in space.

Its very fun to fly in SC using a HOTAS or similar, but there is a very clear M+KB bias in terms of weapons control, that means they will probably win over a stick user if skill is equal. Still feels great, though.

In the first iteration of 2.5.1 it's the fastest ship in the game at 950 CRU, closely followed by the Constellation at 930. The fastest single seat ships (racers) go up to 800, but dedicated fighters are slower than that.

If the constellation can ever nearly pace it its superior weapons will tear the tally apart. 20 meters per second is not escape speed its die tired speed. Also why is the constellation going fast? It a big fat thing loaded with a massive amount of large weapons that can realistically engage anything subcapital, making that kind of thing also fast is a recipe for broken balance.

The Retaliator accelerates faster though. Right now it only has tiny amounts of boost fuel for some reason, so when (if?) they do something about that it should get up to max cruise significantly faster.
Apart from that, they might just balance it by making the S9 torpedos deal ridiculous amounts of damage you could never match with smaller missiles or guns.

I would avoid Saitek like the plague.

Not only do they have massive QA issues, they aren't even honoring them anymore because they were just bought by Logitech. In other words, high chance of a lemon, and no process to return it.

CH sticks are kind of toyish but they're solidly built and accurate. T16000M is good as well for the price.

Warthog in my opinion is the best of those, but obviously at the price premium. Aside from Saitek, you probably won't go wrong with any of them.

>>157239886
Gimbals themselves generate signature making you more easy to detect and for missiles to track, and impart a large amount of inherent inaccuracy to whatever gun is on it; gives a spray cone.

Yeah I know Thrustmaster and CH is good brands, but my question was about smoothness for precise finely adjusted movements something I feel is impossible with a stiff stick like the Saitek's and after what I've heard, with the Logitech 3D Pro too.

Some videos shows that the Warthog is kinda stiff too.

So, I want to know if somebody has any thoughts or experiences with using extension rods on the Warthog for more physical movement on the input part compared to the movement on the output part.

OR, if a Fighterstick/Combatstick would still be more smooth since it doesnt use a spring and it looks kinda loose and smooth.

Yes, the cutlass should be faster in cruise than most of the small single engine ships (ignoring the bullshit of different max speeds in space in the first place). Like how an unladen tractor-trailer can win a drag race against a sports car.

ED shot itself in the foot by ruining their 2.2 hype with a dadvote, but with spacelegs and inescapable VISION, /edg/ will truck on.

Nigga what? Control your autism. I'm sharing my experience with you, it might be worth looking into to it to see if you're having any other issues such as overheating.
>>
>>157243134
Considering Chris never saw the Shia Laboef maymay video just do it up until recently, I think we're safe.
>>
>>157243225
it's overheating that kills me. Every patch it gets better but my gtx760 just starts shitting the bed around an hour in at the moment.

God that was too cringey.

I'm not sure they gave any kind of date at citizencon, did they?
>>
>>157243480
Reference? It was time to upgrade last year mate, the 760 overheated since the very first AC release. Even the 780 isn't doing so well anymore. If it's the 2g 760 then you're just outright fucked and need to upgrade. I'm afraid of what your CPU is, but you need atleast a 6600k + GTX1070/R9390x

don't forget the other design flaw where the sensor pod replaces top turret instead the nearly worthless bottom turret.

The Aquila is such a disappointment.

4770K

don't tell me you fell for intel's memes. the 4790K is still their best processor. Everything later than that is gimped xeons with inflated prices.

yeah my 760 is a piece of shit but it'll hold out until I can get a decent GPU that isn't just another nvidia cashgrab

I've decided to go for dual T16000M where I zip-tie the spring on the right stick to make it smoother and not needing that high amount of force to push it from the center.
