Is there any reason not to use these settings on gamecub/wii games? I can understand running scanline filters on old consoles and reduced color pallets on handhelds, but seems like these settings for gamecube can't be beat by anything I tried thus far.

never said it was, I just think the rhythm combat shit is terribly implemented and so I'd rather make it automated to a degree outside of boss fights. having to listen to the song to hear the beat, which most times is nonsensical, wait until the right moment so you don't fuck up, then tap to that shitty beat with a really nice delay, which may just be the emulator, but I notice every single time the window is so much more lenient for hitting late than early. and if it's a fast beat the delay makes it near impossible. all in all I think it's shit and having to do it every single random encounter if you don't wanna blow all your PP or get fucked on is not something I want to do. boss fights I can deal with. and this is coming from someone who's played rhythm games avidly for almost a decade.
>>

>>
>>156731337
You're supposed to your PP. Buffs and Debuffs are the name of the game with Mother 2 and 3. So many people don't get this and just use regular attacks and healing exclusively, then complain that the game is boring and needs them to grind to succeed at their strategy. There's supposed to be a whole tug of war of buffing and debuffing going on underneath it the whole time.

>>
>>156732549
I got through mother 1 and 2 perfectly fine with no issues only utilizing PSI attacks against tough enemies or bad situations, although once I realized there were infinitely spawning magic butterflies in almost every dungeon of mother 2, I didn't really need to do that anymore for the most part. and so far those butterflies don't seem very common. obviously at the start of the game you need to be frugal because your resources are a lot more limited than they are later in the game, and I'm not late into mother 3 at all so I can't just spam my best shit every encounter and be fine for the boss at the end of the area i'm in.

Welcome to Feature Hell
Where Mednafen Retroarch is better than a lot of other standalone emulators due frame sync, if you can get it to work.

The same is true of PPSSPP Retroarch versus standalone.
The improved latency(input, frame to monitor, audio) was complete bonkers.

Computer CRT monitors are generally good displays, not just for emulation. The only reason I don't use one is because they're bulky.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the english translation patch for Rondo of Blood to work on Retroarch. I'm trying to use this release:

I actually tried messing with this a while ago. The reason it comes as iso/wav is because that's the format the patch requires for some reason.

You have to figure out how to convert it to bin/cue somehow, you're probably not going to find a download for it.

Just go for stable.
If Nightly has a shitty bug, you need to update.

But it should be:
1. Use FTP or just put the .cia file on the SD
2. Read the readme to figure out where the config files and stuff go
3. Pray it has a list over consoles that run, so you get to know ahead of time if there is any bioses that needs to be placed in special places
4. Have a folder for rom files, so you can just scan it
5. Use FBI to install the CIA
6. Play

>>156726332
Scanlines really only work on 2d platforms where pixel art could only be drawn based on the game's native resolution all upsaling might do is clearen the image. With 2d games, the only way to get rid of pixelation is either to use scanlines or to use a form of blurr filter that may lead to a loss in detail.

3d polygons, on the other hand, are vector based and thus don't keep their pixelation when the resolution is upscaled. You could use scanlines a) the GameCube was the from the first generation to really be designed for for digital (no scanlines) televisions and b) scanlines won't offer anywhere near the clarity and reduction of pixelation that upscaling would.

He's not really holding back DS emulation either he even said himself Desmume is more accurate than Drastic (and I don't think Drastic does anything more outside of running pokemon and runnign faster on ARM) most of the progress on the DS front comes from No$ anyways.

Downsampling isn't going to help you with shaders. You need a 4k display regardless.

You could make it hard but not "impossible". But I doubt it'd be worth the effort, they won't risk making their hardware less powerful in order to make it harder to emulate.

Emulation is rarely a problem during a console's lifetime, they're more likely to add anti-piracy features which might also double as anti-emulation.

For instance crypto keys deep within hardware and things like that.

God Policenauts sucks! It's like a really bad Visual Novel. And I don't know, seriously, VN are like the easiest thing in the world to design. So when you design a bad one, that is remarkable.

Like the entire story of Policenaughts is not only a pixel hunt, but you basically have to try everything, and then try everything multiple times. So if you don't know this, like if you want to know about some photograph, you ask about the photograph, and she tells you something, and then you have to ask the same topic again. So that photograph entry can occur 3 or 4 times. And then you have to start from the beginning and try them all again because the third time might have opened something new up. And you have to exhaust every single option. ALL OF THEM. Before the game will let you move on. That is HORRIBLE.

It's not like an oldschool adventure game. Because in an adventure game you don't have to look at and inspect everything on the screen multiple times. You're just sitting there, desperately wanting to move on with the plot, and then you're stuck trying to inspect every little thing over and over again, and asking people the same questions over and over again. Ah it's bad. And when it finally gets exciting, it gets exciting for 20 seconds then you're right back at it.

Is the plot interesting? Not really. You know what the story is? It is 5% Blade Runner, 95% Lethal Weapon. It's straight up Riggs and Murtaugh. It's not even subtle. He rips off whole scenes. It's amazing.

Not every negative reply you see on here is a shitpost anon, and I never said I was wholly against it. Anyone mind helping me (probably retarded) with a pcsx2 problem?
I'm currently running jak II on it, and I don't really mind the graphical glitches, but occasionally the game speeds up which is very annoying, since unexpected speedups + platforming = certain death.
Running it on opengl software rendering, other than that nothing special.

Any ideas are welcome

Is there an emulator that supports DSi software? Stuff like Pokemon Black, specifically in TWL mode. Something with debugging features especially would be useful.
>>
>>156963243
No

afaik there is no way to play DSi exclusive carts or use DSi features on carts short of buying a DSi and the cart.

You can pirate any DSiWare with a hacked 3DS though.
>>
>>156963243
No$GBA has some preliminary work done towards supporting that but don't expect anything usable.

>>156963696

>>
>>156963807

I tried no$gba but none of the DSi-enhanced ROMS I have to hand will run. It doesn't help that a lot of software just isn't dumped correctly, and is missing DSi-specific data.

I dumped the firmware, arm7i and arm9i bios files using fwtool on my 3DS too but I can't tell if no$gba is reading them or not.

This should work
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znzjF5xy9ek

You need this specific version
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz8IYcLfu84zeVVXVERiLXZybDQ
Config is mostly the same

And you need to do the following things
>change the audio plugin to eternalSPU
>go to configuration > CPU > and untick wipeout memory hack
>change the graphics plugin to OGL2 tweaks and make sure offscreen drawing is set to standard at most (breaks PGXP )
>grab the lilypad plugin from PCSX2 and use that for your controller plugin (especially if you're an X360/Xinput pad user)

>>157028205
No single hardware renderer has benefits for that (inb4 muh xBR), and ePSXe's software renderer is inferior.

is this PGXP stuff for specific 3d games or for everything? operation mode slows me down, vertex cache and perspective correcting doesn't hit performance but idk if they're even on without operation mode on

>>
>>157030250
>what is your opinion on frame dupe and CD image cache? they don't seem to hit performance either, but if they're useless, I will kill the overhead
Frame dupe is guaranteed breakage for very little gains most of the time.
CDimage cache is something you should do if you have the RAM to afford it, it shouldn't affect performance unless you're using a very crappy laptop HDD.

>is this PGXP stuff for specific 3d games or for everything?
Mostly 3D only games although a few 2D games do use a bit of 3D here and there but obviously the impact is pretty low then.

Hey emubro, I fixed my wiimote, came back to share what worked.

I installed Touchmote. Google it.

It takes over the wiimote (when on Mode 4), and you can map your own mouse+keyboard+controller setup in there completely independant from the Dolphinbar (you just keep it in Mode 4 forever now, Touchmode takes care of setting it up un mouse mode when you're outside of Dolphin).

While the GUI of Touchmote is pretty thin, there's a very complete settings file you can edit manually to control anti-shake smoothness, X and Y margins to reduce or increase movement sensitivity, etc. It's great.

Here's a dude setting up Touchmote to play on MAME. I got it working in Lightgun games following his video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsrQFSYqTHA

The only bad thing about Touchmote is that it emulates Xinput and takes over my ScpToolKit DS3 slot, so I can only enable one at a time. I haven't been able to fully integrate this into my HTPC completely just yet. But at least my Wiimote is usable outside of Dolphin now!

I cannot find any definitive information on the best settings to use to reduce input delay for PCSX2. Playing on a CRT and this emulator seems to be the only one I am still having input delay issues with. Even when I force it to run in 640x480 the input delay persist.

Disable V-Sync and Windows Aero if you haven't already. PCSX2 has abnormally high input delay.
>>
>>157105183
There isn't any real information on it.
But because the entire emulator is a gigantic hack, some of the speedhacks increase the input delay.
But as great anon said: Exclusive fullscreen or Vsync off + no aero/composition

If the problem is jitter, disable the internal frame limiter, and use something like MSI afterburner or Gedosato to run at 60/60 playstation frames

Noice, is that the new translation or the old one? RA doesn't play disc games so lucky you're using standalone. There's not much you need to change in the options, check the Emulation tab and where it says "MSX Machine" you'll want that to be MSX2.
Things like Video settings etc are all a matter of personal preference really.

An emulator is creating an environment where code from another platform can run natively on yours. A simulator might look and feel like an app or game on another platform but isn't doing any kind of code translation.
>>
>>157130959

I don't think I agree. At least it's not how I use those terms myself.

For me there's no technical difference between an emulator and a simulator, an emulator is also a simulator and a simulator is also an emulator. The difference is how you use them.

If you want to play an Android game on your PC you use an emulator. If you develop an Android application and you want to test it on your PC before you upload it on the target device, then you use a simulator.

It can easily end up being the same piece of software, it's just a different use for it.

As such simulators put emphasis on accuracy (being able to run code on the simulator must be a strong guarantee that it'll run the same on real hardware) while emulators are about compatibility (which is loosely related to accuracy but not the same thing) and possibly improvement over the real hardware like increased resolution, reduced slowdowns etc...

Because of the requirement for high accuracy I also expect simulators to run pretty slowly, for instance I've seen simulations running down to transistor level (propagation times etc...) take a week to emulate a few seconds or realtime.

I won't argue that possibility, I already had to change the cue file from
>C:\Windows\Desktop\Castlevania.bin
to even get it to boot at all with Mednafen

Could you link the PlayStation redump? or the torrent? I downloaded it from a master romset torrent, I need to see if I'm downloading from the same source as you and for future games

Bitch nigga enable the phong shader and tweak rimlight as well then add ambient occlusion (depending of the game of course) to the mix.

Funnily Wii game looks better than 3d mario world, in places..

You know, not only did I not, but it doesn't even matter. I have two games giving problems on two different emulators under Retroarch

Castlevania boots on both, but continues to work fine completely out of the box on PCSX ReArmed, while the Richter crash has consistently happened on Mednafen, it's exactly why I ignored it and moved on to PCSX ReArmed in the first place. It's the same copy, I just copied it on my phone.

If you checked the wiki you wouldn't have gotten a bad dump

It wasn't used to emulate a vigeogame obviously, it was for a chip we were designing. You want to make sure the chip you've designed will work correctly before you foot the hundred thousand dollar bill to have it etched on silicon.

>It's just a texture pack away if anyone is interested. There's no reason to be interested though because it's on PC.
It's that REMAKE HD, which also features the glorious RE2 N64 control scheme by default?

I don't know what that is, but yes people apparently love the flipping around every time the camera angle changes for guaranteed bites. Boggles the mind.

Obviously you did not read it.

If you've got any Xbox games on your PC try them out and submit their info to the database. I just tried it out and it only takes like 5 secs per game.

I take it that's because nothing works LOL.

Exactly, I even tried some early dashboard and it didn't work. I remember emulating it on the old Cxbx under Vista though.

Okay, I'm clearly fucking stupid here.

I'm trying to get my usb PS3 controller hooked up to PPSSPP, and no matter what I do the Y axis on both analog sticks is inverted. I've been googling for a while, and have found plenty of people with that problem, but no solutions beyond using the on screen controller, which is less than optimal. Am I missing something, or am I just fucked?

How do you enable phong and tweak rimlighting?
