If the UNACs are really good and the Operator knows what they're doing, it's possible. The main problem is that the guy running a UNAC squad probably won't get as much opportunity as regular players to practice what he does, so it's harder to reach that skill level. But when someone does get that good and knows how to exploit the AI and optimize UNAC builds, they're pretty viable in PVP.

You don't necessarily need an operator. 3 UNACs + 1 human performs better against most teams than 4 UNACs. This is because if the opponent has a SINGLE melee player, the UNACs are all fucked.

No amount of good operating will stop a decent kickbot or kumorabi. It's just not possible, UNACs have literally no programming defense against melee attacks other than to counter-kick, which fails often.

So having 3 UNACs + 1 player let's the player bait the opponent and

Likewise, since UNACs will FOLLOW the human player no matter what until they get a target, having a human on the ground instead of an operator lets you position them early based on the map, instead of having them just bumble around until enemies come into range.

Basically, here is how you win with UNACs:

1. Give them only targeting range equivalent to their attacking range, so that they don't focus on targets way out of range or behind walls. Give them focused targeting also.

2. Position them so that you're in the middle at the start of the match. That way they 'cluster' around you as soon as possible, and then walk them over to a safe area where you can ambush/defend yourself properly.

3. Run varied defense and weapon types. Laser quad, BR heavy, sniper RJ, etc. You can program UNACs to have freakishly good reaction time and evasion.

3. Focus ENTIRELY on killing the first melee or weakest players on the enemy teams. This is 90% of the battle. If you can bait the weakest player to rush forward, then you can SURROUND them with 4 ACs and kill them in seconds. Once that's done, it's now a 3v4 are the odds are definitely in your favor.

4. Next you want to go into a war of attrition. You focus on the next biggest threat and you run back and away and try to isolate them, taking them down. Around this time. The entire goal is that you have 3-4 UNACs at half health while they have 2 ACs at full health.

5. By now they will certainly be trying to take you down since you have UNAC command, or they will be trying to get boxes so that they can cheese the match. This is where you basically use yourself as the bait, letting them chase you (since humans can evade much better). Pop back in to take a heavy hit and conserve your AP. Ideally, if they fall for it, you'll have them chasing you down, focused on killing you, while getting shot from behind by your UNACs.

6. At this point, you'll probably be low on AP or dead. No fear though, because by now you have 2 or 3 UNACs against 1 or 2 human players, and their biggest threats are already eliminated. As long as you got enough boxes to avoid losing a time-out, your win is near guaranteed since the UNACs will cluster together and continue focusing on the same enemy, and just grind them down in AP.


UNACs are better at humans at a few things:
1. Reaction time for quickboost/firing
2. Focusing relentlessly on one enemy
3. Winning straight firefights in open areas (esp. if they have extremely good defense)
4. EN management/consistency (you can program exact breakpoints for their behavior based on EN level)

UNACs are terrible at:
1. Avoiding melee death
2. Using cover
3. Chasing enemies

3+1 UNAC setup can do the following, which operator setup cannot:
1. Bait the opponent into killing the human first
2. Have at least one player who can avoid melee and counter melee attackers
3. Have a leader that UNACs will cluster around at the beginning of the match

Also, a few other tidbits:

- If you die, UNACs will continue to focus on whatever AC you last marked for target. This means if you die while there is still 2 enemies, then the marked one can just run away while the unmarked one can kill your UNACs safely.

- In any team battle, having a 3v4 or 2v4 advantage is huge. The way VD is designed, dealing with a 2v1 scenario where the other two have half AP is harder than a 1v1 scenario where the enemy has full AP. So if you have 4 UNACs vs 2 humans, even though humans are better, as long as one of them isn't a kickbot or built to cheese UNACs,

- Never fight the same team twice in a row. Change up your map settings and such between matches so they don't think they're fighting the same enemy. Hard countering UNACs is very easy.

- Try to use ONLY maps you choose yourself. The most UNAC-friendly maps are in the mid-continent. This is because you have a lot of open areas with few places for the UNACs to get "caught up" on. So set your team region to that area, and then always pick 'defense' for your sortie parameters to guarantee that they fight on your terms. Program and build your UNACs for that map.

On top of that, that Chromestrike game I'm running? You are far and away their favorite NPC. To the point that there's an important plot point that has your NPC away for a long time and they're worried about what might have happened.

You guys have inspired me to try and finally finish AC1. I'm starting with a fresh save for the full experience, then going through the other PS1 era games.

Anything I should know going in? I've always been terrible at the first gen games for some reason. I might just do a Human+ playthrough so I can finally beat this game and be done with it, I've been struggling at it off and on for almost 20 years now.

Gonna play on an emulator since my PS1 died a couple years ago.

Unfortunately if you run 3 fortress quads all it takes is for one half decent sniper or Karasawa build to take down half of your team. You vary the defenses to hedge your bets against losing 2-3 of your ACs to 1 enemy, who happens to just show up with the right build.

What the fucking shit is the purpose of even having Armored Cores when these Ace Combat motherfuckers outclass me in every way imaginable? How are you even meant to beat this mission? The fighters are impossible to track and take down, and when the enemy AC shows up he just intagibs the train. If he actually bothers to fight you he just stunlocks you, THEN goes and instagibs the train. And even if he doesn't stunlock you, you're still getting assraped by the fighter planes.

Someone please send help, I haven't been this mad since Arteria Carpals on hard.

Why is AC1 so based?

Dual kumoriyo on 350 range FCS and highest firing stability arms is probably the most reliable sniper damage beyond 300m. Dual zlatkos / 3700 damage snipers within that range. I don't really advocate sniper cannons unless you're really practiced with them.

One thing about UNACs is that they only charge up their laser rifles if they have an active target. So most people program them to fire the laser rifles 'early' so that they dont' waste time charging up. This lowers laser rifle velocity, so it makes their range limited. Since there's no long range TE weapons that don't require charging up, that means UNACs have very weak long range TE damage. Stay out of 300m range and the quads will go down to snipers. At close range, pulse guns and out-turn them.

It's face-to-face encounters at mid range on flat areas where UNACs are actually really good, since that's when reaction time matters more than strategy.

Very.
So, Matthew is a category 3 hurricane. According to the NOAA, that means it has sustained wind speeds of 178 to 208 km/h. If it were just wind, this wouldn't be so bad. As you know, coastal states account for wind loads of that caliber and are built around them. What you can't account for is a palm tree being uprooted and slammed into your building. Or a mailbox. Or other heavy things.
They also bring rain. Lots and lots and lots of rain. Heavy flooding occurs, which is one of the main reasons bowls like New Orleans get absolutely bodied by hurricanes.
The biggest issue, however, is storm surge. I don't know what the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina are like, but Florida's hits a steep drop pretty quickly, which helps offset some of the surge damage. Places with a smooth incline like Louisiana have a lot more to worry about. Anyway, storm surge. Basically, while the hurricane is out at sea, it'll trap water in a vicious swirl, It'll sit there and build energy until it finally gets strong enough to escape the vortex and head inland where it'll combine with the usual tide. This can result in a wall of water that easily exceeds 4.5 meters.
For the record, Katrina was seeing storm surges in excess of 8 meters.
I'm sure I don't need to tell you what happens when a ~5 meter tall wall of water crashes ashore.
Anyway, hurricanes weaken as they move inland, so the coasts get pounded the hardest. There'll still be damage a ways inland, but it gets progressively weaker and weaker.

tl;dr High wind speeds + extreme flooding + 5 meter walls of water hitting the shore at high speeds = bad news bears
