I just woke up from a dream where I was exploring the labyrinth and there were these tiles that had a gray menacing miasma. I steeped on one and it made a weird moan, I checked my status screen and everyone was fine... There were lots of these tiles that I couldn't avoid stepping on. I stepped on another one and checked my status screen... 3 party members died. The tiles had a chance to insta kill any members!!

Yeah, that's what tends to happen to the sacrificial lamb. The Landsknecht could hold his own in the front, but all my other party members were also pretty fragile. Just keep pumping skill points into the Beast's defensive skills and it should get a bit better eventually. It will still probably be dying a lot during FOE and boss fights.

Heal Guard the beast. Also the beast takes damage for what it was guarding. Say the Ronin takes 100 damage, and the alchemist takes 200 damage, beast will take 300 damage unless mitigated from an outside source.

Labyrinth 1: Divine Sea of Trees (Divine is actually "Shinto Deity" so "Forest of the Gods could also work although they use "Jukai" which is literally "sea of trees")

Labyrinth 2: Megalith Shrine Road ("Megalith" is used for "large rock of unusual size")

Labyrinth 3: Graveyard of Darkness

Labyrinth 4: Rainbow Druse (A "druse" is a crystal cavern)

Labyrinth 5: Torus of the Primeval Forest (Primeval could alse mean "virgin" and "torus" could also mean "circle" or "ring" but I went with what sounded cooler)

I played the EOIV demo ages ago and just got the full game used for cheap, so I continued my old save.

Currently in B3 Lush Woodlands with L, D, M, R on 14 and N on 12 since she dies all the time. About to face the Berserker King, though dunno if I'm a bit weak for it now. Anything I should keep in mind, about the boss and in general?

I assume its conditional drop is something for a NG+ or so. Did I fuck up by not including a Sniper or Fortress in my party?

What's your front and backrow?

A good metric is the FOEs of the first floor of the dungeon; if you can take them out then you're probably good to fight the boss.

Some people swear by Fortresses, while others view them as unnecessary. Your party is a bit squishy but a Dancer and a Medic should be enough to keep up.

Snipers are kinda weak earlygame but are very strong later on, they're you're only source of binds until the 2nd Land. Binds are very useful but your Nightseeker's statuses are enough to cover for it.

The Berserker King's conditional drop is received by defeating it in one turn, which is impossible until endgame (even if you were to somehow get it, the item it creates costs hundreds of thousands of en).

Either kill or lure away the Bloodbears in the room; otherwise they'll join the boss in the fight and make it pretty much unwinnable. Also know that you can start the battle from behind him, which will give you a pre-emptive strike.

Make sure to use those statuses from your NS and your Rune spells from your Runemaster.

Landsknecht always in front, Runemaster always in the back. Others switch around depending on situation and HP. E.g. Dancer goes to the front for Guard/Attack Tango or Medic goes to the back when focusing on healing.

For the Cutter FOEs I usually start with Guard Tango, Ice Rune, Sand Throw and Power Break as setup, then hack away.

One of my main issues so far was the lack of a revive skill before level 20 and my reluctance to stock up on nectars. But that's just bad habit from games where you don't need to use items.

Str affects weapon attack, which is used for almost all physical(cut/stab/bash) skills unless otherwise stated(i.e. Zodiac's Meteor in EOIII uses TEC, Shield bash skills in most games use the shield's defense stat instead). Early on STR is more important, but weapon attack tends to lead to more damage assuming all your offensive skills on the character use it.

Items are important in EO, especially as TP-healing items are very hard to come by in most of the games. Pocket Sand is very useful for a Nightseeker and can get you out of a lot of crap. Berserker King is vulnerable to it too.

Since you have a Rune and a Landshark you may want to look into the Link skills, although they won't reach their full potential until lategame.

If you have your Medic in the front occasionally then are you using the Blow attacks? They're actually pretty good effect-wise, Heavy Blow is a reliable stun with a few points. Just know that they aren't damage dealers. Same with Dancers. Also with Dancers remember that a party member can only have three buffs on them at a time.

Decent enough, though you might want to switch around some of your party members once you unlock some more classes.

I'd suggest that you replace the Nightseeker with a Runemaster for now, especially if you're not even going to put it on the front row. I've found that I didn't need to use ailments during the early game when I already had binds, and NS isn't that amazing until you can access its level 40 skills. The RM's elemental attacks are strong from early game to postgame, and its weakness runes and class ability synergize excellently with a link Landy. You can just swap out a party member and use a level-up scroll if you decide you want to abuse an NS later.

Yeah, TP healing is even worse than revives. I've found two Amritas in the whole first land and can't buy any yet. My two attempts at the Berserker King so far fell apart when the L/N/R all ran out of TP, with the first having them start at ~70%. Second one was mostly Blindness not triggering. In the end the whole party fell to Berserker Rage. Whatever attack it was that can inflict blindness on everyone also fucked me up. Might need to level up Refresh so it affects a line or use the Dancer's Refresh Waltz.

I use Ice Rune mainly together with Freezing Link and the Nightseeker's Ice Knife, The latter does about 130 damage when the Berserker King is blinded, but the link is a bit disappointing at level 1.

Didn't put anything into Heavy Strike so far. Right now he mostly focuses on healing with Heal 3, Line Heal 3, Refresh/Treat/Recovery, Proficiency and Patch Up 2. He often finds himself with either nothing or too much to do.

The middle ground is whittling away cautiously until the boss starts using its actual dangerous shit, at which point you're expected to toss your full burst damage at it to finish it off or you're in for a terrible time. Most major EO boss fights operate like this actually when not using OP quick kill setups.

I know that its the beginning of the game, but just know that Patch Up will eventually become completely worthless as it heals a flat amount and your HP will always be increasing. It's good for right now though, you'll just want to rest your Medic later on and reallocate those points.

Refresh Waltz may be easier for status healing because leveling up skills a lot will often increase their TP cost, which can be too much for early game. Look at the skill level-up effect closely when leveling up a skill. Also know that leveling up skills past a certain point can often have diminishing returns until they're max; a general rule of thumb is that leveling a skill halfway to max is good enough until lategame where skill points aren't as limited a resource.

Again, a Link won't do much when it's level 1, and they don't really shine until you have access to Improved Link and Link Plus.

Also status effects are harder to trigger on bosses, but they can trigger, so keep at it. A poison move is also good if you have it.

Try not to fight anything on your way to Berserker King so that you have full HP and TP, and bring some items. If it's still to hard, then try completeing a quest if you have one or just try leveling up one more time.

I had no issues triggering blindness in my first try, but the second one was full of bad luck in comparison. There are no skills causing poison at this level, but the Nightseeker has the Poison Blade in her off-hand. Could also buy the Balisong dagger with the same effect or buy some poison gas. The Dancer will get either the Arm Shooter with three icons to bind arms or the Recurve Bow forged with fire. Not sure yet which one I'll take.

I got enough nectar from a QR quest now. Might also do one for extra Amrita, but otherwise I should be prepared. Everyone is on 16 now, except N at 15.

After a boss is inflicted with a status, inflicting it again becomes much harder. I'd possibly recommend the Arm Shooter as the Dancer will be focusing on buffs and isn't a main attacker.

Also, when the Berserker King starts to charge up, it'll do nothing for about 2 turns which is your chance to wail on it. If you can land enough damage in that time then it'll be stunned and you get more free hits in. Try not to blow your load too early in the fight. Landshark's Vanguard is a good damage boost, as is Attack Tango.

EMD is a really different kind of game that doesn't mesh well with the typical EO crowd, and has some silly bugs and eccentricities.

Persona Q is ok until Naoto breaks it with Mahama and Mamudo even faster that I've been doing with my luck build in SMT IV Apocalypse, where they're actual damage spells and only instant kill when smirking.

Etrain Mystery Dungeon is honestly not that great, it's pretty fucking buggy and imbalanced as fuck and Etrian and Mystery Dungeon don't really mesh well. God-tier soundtrack though.

Persona Q is a fun Etrian-lite that can actually be pretty challenging if you play on Risky. Instant-kill spells break a lot of random encounters. If you really like Persona 3/4 then you might like it, even if the plot is almost literally fanfiction.
