The thread is for the discussion of Space Simulation and logistics systems games of all sorts - flight, logistics, design, we'll take it all.

Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space, Orbiter, Space Engine, Universe Sandbox, Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager, (Open)Transport Tycoon, House of the Dying Sun, Rogue System, Children of a Dead Earth, Rodina, and Everspace all welcome.
>>
>Race into Space
Race to the moon between the USSR and US. A management sim that is adapted from a board game, and with an interface that was considered shitty in the 90's, it's still pretty good. Free.
http://www.raceintospace.org/

>Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager
Race into Space's younger, slightly worse cousin. Shinier and slightly better interface, though, which might be a selling point for some. It's a Slitherine game - not much else needs to be said.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/308270/

>Orbiter
The big boy spaceflight game. Simulates lots of real and fictional spacecraft. Absurd numbers of mods to add just about anything you can imagine.
http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/
http://www.orbithangar.com/

>Space Engine
Space screenshot maker with an entire procedural universe to fly around. Is supposed to someday get actual gameplay. Free.
http://en.spaceengine.org/

>Rogue System
DCS in space. In early access, so approach with caution, but seems to be shaping up pretty well so far.
http://imagespaceinc.com/rogsys/

>Children of a Dead Earth
Claims to be a "Realistic" space combat simulator. Not really true, and some consider the lead dev to be kind of an idiot, but still an interesting project nonetheless.
https://childrenofadeadearth.wordpress.com/
http://store.steampowered.com/app/476530

>House of the Dying Sun
Space anime combat villain sim.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/283160/

>Rodina
Like an itty-bitty No Man's Sky. Lots of exploration in a single solar system. Early Access, so take caution.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/314230/

>OpenTTD
A transport and logistics systems simulation game. Free Transport Tycoon remake with tons of addons to keep you busy for the rest of forever.
https://www.openttd.org/en/

>Project Highrise
Think Simtower with more stripped down gameplay elements. More casual for sure, but still plenty of fun.

Has anyone actually tried CoaDE yet?
>>
>>156362749
Yeah, it's ok. It's a turn-based system, so that might not be so great, and the simulation is a mess right now - the lead dev managed to completely fuck up nukes for the public release, so that they were pretty much useless.
>>
>>156362534
Who /escapevelocity/ here?
>>
>>156363225
Haven't played that in years. Have you tried Endless Sky yet, anon?

Actually, should add that to the OP - it's free and open source. Lots of mods and shit.

The UI is absolute garbage, too. It's really cluttered, and all of the graphics are really low-quality programmer art. I even recall hearing that they're storing their texture maps as low-res .png format files right now, which is really, really bad.
>>
>>156363648
How autistic from 0 to spreadsheet simulator is the building editor and battle system?
>>
>>156365778
The battle system isn't all that bad, really. It's realtime, and really hectic, but the editor is pure spreadsheet tactics.

>>
>>156370501
There's a really badly written plotline, yeah. War between factions after a massive cataclysm forces humanity off of the Earth.
>>
>>156370741
So any hope for the game to become worthwhile in the future?
>>
>>156371801
The lead dev is really full of himself, but between the potential for custom scenarios, and his willingness to update things, it might still have a chance to be pretty fun.

There's a lot of tutorials and operating manuals around. As long as you're willing to read or watch a video, and play along with the tutorial you're watching, it's not really all that difficult.
>>
>>156421847
I'm cool with that but I was wondering if the bulk of the game was learning orbital mechanics to get to space or if you can do something once you are there, like repairing stuff, performing scientific experiments and whatnot
>>
>>156422125
Depends on the module you're looking to use. What kind of missions did you have in mind, Anon? Stuff like deploying payloads and such is possible, but anything much more complex is, as far as I know, not implemented. You can't, for example, actually use a space telescope or something like that.

It's more akin to something like Microsoft Flight Simulator.
>>
>>156422490
I don't know desu
Something like repair missions or actually assembling something in orbit with the payloads you carry and stuff like that
>>
there's already a space game thread
>>156357362

Orbital assembly is definitely possible.

http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3062
http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3388

These addons, when used in conjunction with something like Payload Manager (http://www.kulch.spb.ru/Eng/PM_project.html) allow you to build really complex custom launch vehicles and orbital complexes.
>>

/egg/ claimed chode
Though I can delete it from the OPpad if you want.
Are you guys sure you can survive?
>>
>>156430454
We don't even know the full list of games welcome here yet, we are still trying to find our niche.

We were also discussing about using /cbg/ as an attention grabbing name and include city building games too, as they can't clearly survive on their own.
>>
>>156430770
Ah, good idea.
Also, public.etherpad-mozilla.org
Use that instead of a followup post.
Etherpads are editable by anyone, but you can restore it from previous versions to unfug it is someone's being a cunt.
>>
>>156430970
And you might want to come up with a catchier name.
/egg/ is simple, /egg/ sticks in the mind.
/spslgg/ does not.
>>
>>156431052
Oh, and do some more advertising around autism generals like /egg/ or /mcg/
And maybe /v/ if you can stomach going there.
>>
>>156431132
>mcg
anon, are you trying to kill us on day one?
>>
>>156431223
/mcg/ isn't THAT bad.
You'd have to do it at a more autistic hour though, like when people are talking about programming or something.
>>
>>156431052
Suggestions are more than welcome, my only idea so far was /slcbg/ - Space, logistics and city building general, which is not really any more catch than the current name.
>>
>>156431414
/slogg/ for space logistics.
Not sure how you'd incorporate /cbg/ stuff.
>>
>>156431549
It's more about survival and being more than three anons posting about 1/10th of the game list
>>
>>156431627
Then /slogg/ is good.
Pronounceability is key, for one.
Advertise too, there are probably plenty of anons from /cbg/ floating around.
>>
>>156431414
/slg/ - Space & Logistics Sim Games General

>>156431549
Considering how sporadic /cbg/ stuff can be, and how the logistics and management sims for some space games can be, there's quite a bit of crossover there that'll be healthy for keeping this general going.

You can unlock module/ship design in the in-game 'wiki', you can't use your designs in the campaign till you complete it or whenever unlock the chance.

>>156362749
>>156440490
The AI at the moment is trash and doesn't come close to a person and there is no mulitplayer but the ship design isn't too bad. Some things are good and simulated well so you need to take design into account (backing tough brittle armour like metal with something like kevlar to prevent spalling, whipple shields to disintegrate a projectile to allow it to spread over a larger area on the main shield.) but other things are not. To speak of the worst, chemical interactions aren't in (Lithium water pumps, HMWPE flourine tanks, ect) nor is thermal mechanical failure. (Lead gun barrels that don't warp from heat rather it'll just fail when it reaches melting temp)

>>156452124
He says he hasn't included the Orion engines and cassaba Howitzers because he hasn't found "enough" unclassified information regarding the specifications of these systems. Nuclear lasers too, maybe. He doesn't include other things for other reasons which he talks about which are more arguably for his own reasons. (Light gas guns, explosive/nuclear launched projectiles and ram accelerators.)
>>
>>156452124
>The simulation lacks a lot of things that quite a few people think are kind of important, like nuclear pumped lasers and stuff like Orion engines and Casaba Howitzers, and the reasons for not including them are pretty inconsistent.

You going to provide the dev with the fomulae and numbers required to simulate said technologies?
>>
>>156452124
>The lead dev is also really self assured, which can (combined with the above,) make them come across like a bit of an asshole.
>This goes back to a recurring problem that I've seen crop up a lot with many of these designs. To date, as far as I am aware, no nuclear detonation has ever been contained or controlled within a small container. At 10 million K, no material can withstand a nuclear detonation, and there is no data on how many microseconds something can stay together when a nuke detonates inside it.
>Regardless, a giant cone of plasma is still pretty feasible for a drive, providing you're okay with far lower efficiencies than what the papers predicted. I could model the plasma jet as less of a jet and more of a fat cone or hemisphere, and the rest would work.
>I am a little iffy on doing original calculations rather than taking calculations from peer reviewed papers. However, I have done it for one particular system in game. The explosive lens on the nuclear devices is completely classified, so the equations governing it's implosion is approximated based on various sources. I could do something similar in this case.
>With all that in mind, implementing the Orion drive is something I have mulled over a lot over the last two years working on this project. I will say that it will not be in the base game when it ships, however if I ever do further post-ship updates/patches/content, the Orion drive would be very high on the priority list.

That isn't how an Orion device works. At all. So he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about in the slightest as it is.

I just wish building on the seafront stuff was a bit easier, when I last played that you had to build roads on the seabed which was a bit of a pain.
2205 is pretty cool, just because the whole building tropics / arctic / lunar is pretty neat. That said, the fighting only happening in designated fighting zones was hella gay.

This dlc seems to change that though?

KSP IS DEAD LOL

>All good things must come to an end, and so it is for us. It is time for each of us to move on from Squad. Kerbal Space Program is an incredible game and has truly been a joy to create. We have greatly enjoyed working together with such a tightly-knit, professional, and talented development team, and with such a wonderful community. Over the last update cycle we’ve taken KSP to new heights and achieved great things with such a small team. We’ve finished work on update 1.2 and when Squad releases it, it will be a product of which we can be truly proud. We hope you share that opinion and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we loved creating it.
>Thank you all for the incredible community support. So long, and thanks for all the snacks!
>Signed, in no particular order, your Kerbal developers Mike (Mu), Bill (Taniwha), Nathanael (NathanKell), Sébastien (Sarbian), Jim (Romfarer), Brian (Arsonide), Chris (Porkjet), Nathan (Claw)

From another reddit user:
>I cross checked the game's credits with the Dev flair on here and KSP forums. Looks like Roverdude is the only programmer left. Porjket, Nick, and Pablo remain on Content Design.
Great news for KSP, the modders will be able to fix the game without squid breaking it every month or so. Hopefully squad will ditch working on KSP to keep being the filthiest of the mexicans.
>The main business of Squad is to provide digital and interactive services to customers like Coca-Cola, Hewlett-Packard, Sony, Samsung and Nissan, including creating websites, guerrilla marketing, multi-media installations, and corporate-image design.[1]

This isn't the general for KSP. That's /scg/edg/ or whatever they call themselves.
>>
>>156616817
Come now, KSP isn't so lackluster a simulation to be put with ED and SC, neither of which are out of beta ;)

Plus, this guy called it before it died.
>>156615621
>>
>>156617715

What does that have to do with anything?

KSP is more /egg/ and /scg/edg/ material. Post about it there.

I get it, /spslgg/ is too good for that. I mean why would you let plebs into such a blessed community. What is KSP but a silly children's game (They don't even calculate their own dV lol!), pah!

/kspg/ died in the 4chan/chan-that-shall-not-be-named (cripplekike-chan.Does this work?) split-up but it had certainly degenerated before then.
>>
>>156620569
go make one then
>>
>>156620579
I'm pretty sure kspg was around like a month ago.
>>
>>156620579
No, we just don't want to tread on the toes of other generals. We're already upsetting others with our presence, so we'd rather not steal games from other generals, especially games with such small niche communities.

You're just better off posting about it in the other generals - I'm sure you'll get far more replies there.
>>
>>156620781
I was active in the /kspg/ for some time before moot obviously sold out and cripple-kike came along, and the community got split up by that community loss and never recovered. Like I said though it was already degenerating (the shitposting was always a thing but it never got out of control till towards the end.)

Seems you got yourself the potential for some new recruits, friendo.

>Seems you got yourself the potential for some new recruits, friendo.

Nope. Because, again, that migrated to /scg/edg/.
>>
>>156620761
/scg/edg/
That place is nothing more than an e-celeb circle jerk that is worshiping vapor-ware and memes. (As it has literally always been considering there is no games to play yet it's existed for as long as those games got crowd-funded.)

I thought this thing alone would interest people and don't really mean to start some kind of 4chan rebellion or anything, so I'll just take my leave.

I do hope you fellas take the time to look within yourselves and find the heart to live in harmony with KSP.
>>
>>156624050
The post you quoted invited you to create a new thread and call it kspg if you want to talk about that game and feel that other generals aren't good enough.

See if you can find someone still interested in kspg, but this is not the place
