Why SNK keep taking wrong directions since KOF '98?

Since KOF games were an annual thing back then, I think it was interesting that they tried to do new things like the strikes, but well, it definitely wasn't balanced. Maybe if they made something like 02UM to fix and implement the NESTS Saga games they would turn out really nice. I played 99 a lot and I think it's a fun game btw

2002 was fixed in 2002UM.

The MI games were strange and I'm glad they aren't part of the main series, but maybe if they didn't give up on them, now we could have better graphix in XIV? Who knows.

It'd have to be a for fun game rather than tourney viable, but I once thought about this as well, kinda. Like 94-95 would have spot dodge (only 95 actually had the dodge+attack and superjump though), 96 has roll and run but still uses charge meter, adds the multiple jumps, 97-98 introduces the advanced mode meter and activation, etc.
