And to follow up, I skipped a lot of specific interactions like I did with the last two times this idol-shit came up, so ask away for clarification.

Clover's story felt nostalgic for me for some reason, they did a pretty okay job with that one. Otherwise the writing kept introducing an issue then resolving it within the same story, which is a rather lame way to write.
I don't have an image to properly convey the confused "what the hell" moment I had with the epilogue.

From the shadowverse perspective, it wouldn't be exactly mtg but instead a game where the attacker chooses his targets, which are either board or face, and the defender chooses his blockers in response.

In the end it really means that the defender chooses how to trade every time, except for unblockable cards.

Thinking from an mtg perspective the difference is that damage to minions doesn't persist and resets every turn, and that you need special cards to make one creature attack another.

No, not without special abilities directly.
The attacker declares his attack, and can choose a target for each creature. The target is either the opponents face or one of their planswalker cards, which is like a sub-player.
The defender either lets that creature's attack happen or assigns a blocker to it to take the damage. The defender can assign multiple defenders to one attacker, so usually attacking is much riskier in mtg and stalemates are insanely common.
That's why removal and hexproof are insane in magic, because you can protect important minions so much easier.

In mtg you either run face or attack a planes walker, which is like an amulet but it has health and activated effects.

You need a card like hunt the hunter to fight a creature.

A beginner mistake in that game is not attacking, unless it's a situation where you can only lose a guy and the opponent would be stupid not to block.

Also, attacking taps a card, which means it can't block anymore unless it has vigilance.

A game like the one proposed before probably wants trample on a few cards, where excess damage blocked goes to the enemy player. BTW dragon would probably get those.

Granted, I never see first years or hammers in these fights, but might be fun chasing after the dragon on a banana boat.

Flora renge. If there's prayer kanon and the team doesn't suck, I'd go with the sunflower rod to try and get as many transform charge attacks in for a modest 60s~ clear to 36s. Got most of my hearts from getting 6-10k points per run after the last item you can get from the event

AR excel at fights that are easy, close ranged, or basically tank and spank. They have low acc, give buffs to SMGs (besides the AR squad), shoot quickly, and target close. The DPS race combat sim is them at their best. Same for the swarms of robot dogs or anything that bum rushes you.
RF are at their best against hard targets, armored targets, and when you will be moving a single SMG around to avoid hits.

The first 4 chapters are almost all battles of the first variety unless you count Midnight.

Almost everything is piss easy to get used and you barely need the guide to learn how to play. The game's difficulty is babby mode too, just have to grind the shit out of 1-2 when you're starting to max enhance your guns and then you should breeze through the rest if you give some thought to tactics or strategies to defeat your enemies.

The point where you start really needing the guide and/or wikis is when you want to know the more specific details like the best grinding areas, DPS charts, Logistics info, etc etc.
