I just reinstalled the game with some mods and im having problems

When I try and launch the game from steam nothing happens, it says the game is running and I have to manually exit ModLauncherWPF via task manager

When I use Alternate Mod Launcher with mods installed and checked it launches the game fine but no mods are activated, its just vanilla

I tried deleting those ini files in the documents and restarting and it didnt work, validating game files didnt help either

Limitless ammo sounds nice but that would be quite too powerful and make the gun even more costly to make. Having special abilities could make things more interesting and they could mods that you could make for each weapon: Psy-Lance a la EW for maximum single-target damage, Pyrokinesis for area denial, force-like push to flush out of cover, lighting strike to de-buff robotic units and so on.

Each gun/sword/armor-modules would have to be made individually and then you add the desired mods/runes/psy-reactive-circuits on it to represent how hard to make they are.

Psy and Guns are not often related but, in order to make the mod more easy to make, it could work.

Depends on the situation. There isn't really a do this or do that answer to that. Shieldbearers are generally a low priority target for me, because they wont fuck your nearest operative in the ass on their first turn. They will shield most of time.

I've completely stopped watching Beagle's XCOM streams because I agree they aren't nearly as funny anymore, but all of his other stuff are still great. Except he needed his blueshirts to help out against the ethereal with nades and he wouldn't have been able to swivel them over to the left fast enough without leaving them exposed anyway. Then there's the fact that none of Cell, Orgun and Scuba could make it into a position from which they could shoot the ethereal because of the building the lanky fuck was holed up in, and even if they could have, wasn't there a Cyberdisk or some shit they had to engage? I mean sure, it was a risk to leave those three on the left, but not half as big of a risk as allowing an ethereal get an attacking move. Sometimes you just have to minimize risk then roll the dice, Beags tried going for a bestcase scenario (everybody makes it out alive) rather than a eh scenario (everyone but blueshirts make it out alive) and he got fucked for it. Just because it had a bad outcome doesn't mean it was categorically the wrong choice though.

There was an article I read where they said they (Firaxis) are working with the "workshop" to try and get mods on console, but other than that I can't find any other information.

Forgot to install the update carried units mod and this fucking shit happens. An advent stun lancer hitted my soldier who was carrying the unconscious VIP and now I can only pick up the soldier, but not the VIP (not even in his first position, next pic). Neither the scans nor the missions themselves expire, but if you start a scan and then interrupt it because reasons, it starts a timer for how many days you've left to resume scanning.

Just use Government for capture missions. They are worth it for their research, but once you capture them all they aren't worth going after. As long as you run other missions that month you'll easily cover the negative score. Also you have to get negative score two months in a row to lose that way.

To be more specific, what I mean is I conduct base raids. I go in, stun people and leave at least one person alive and then leave. Then I run those until I don't need the captives. Then I finish off the bases.

.22 has a velocity of like 350m/s, which is far below what you'd need to penetrate steel, and as NIJ specifications state, level 1 is what you'd need to stop a .22 round, while level 3 or 3+ would be needed to stop 5.7

M855 would probably be stopped by level 3 steel at a distance close to 100m, though.

You stack all the HP armor and items on them and probably even the chameleon item that improve lightening reflexes and makes them immune to opportunist crits. If that's not enough, you turn them into MECs. Honestly, running overwatch with scouts should always be your last trick when you absolutely need it. Never casually run overwatch. Lategame scouts bring alot to the table without running overwatch, so honestly you should probably just phase them out of that role against the hard hitters.

I mean, you said you didn't screw up the .ini files, which if that's true, then it's your only solution. However, it sounds like did edit some .ini files, and I kinda suspect you screwed them up. Can't look at them, so no way to know. If you want to take another look, make sure to check the line that that let's you equip it and the pistol equip line as well to make sure they aren't messed up. Also make sure that UFO_psi_link has a stun chance, though I doubt that's the problem.

You could ask an anon to upload their clean .ini file instead and replace yours. That might work as well.

I've always kept a copy of the clean .ini off to the side with every update. I have the completely fresh download LW .ini, and none of the arc thrower lines are different. It was working fine a few whiles ago, and I haven't changed anything since the last time I tased an ayy. It just loaded up one day and I didn't have it. Maybe I hit some weird bug.

The shotgun is just better in vanilla. Better aim. Better crit. Can be upgraded more with weapon attachments. It benefits from stuff like Hunter's Instinct (Swords don't in vanilla, last I checked), it can benefit much more from random off-class perks, special ammo types are applied to it but not the sword, etc.

If you want to use melee weapons, I hope you're a PC user - modders have thought up weapons and classes that use them far more effectively than the ranger does.

Pic related, this guy's a Samurai, a custom LW-style class mod. They're shitty gunmen (-20 to aim) but godlike melee combatants, getting +3 damage as part of their entry-level perk (the same one that makes them a worse shot than a rookie).

The axe is roughly the same as a T1 sword but between the class and the LW toolbox you get options that give you some serious damage output in exchange for the high risk of charging across the battlefield and potentially drawing contact or putting yourself in a position where you can get shot out of cover, blown up, flanked, MC'd, etc.

Not entirely sure if the latter two are required, I don't think they are, but I'd honestly suggest them all the same. The LW Perk Pack itself has it's own melee unit - the Shinobi, who functions either as a suicidal melee unit like the Samurai, but without being a shit gunman, or as the invisible scout the typical vanilla Ranger ends up pigeon-holed into. The Toolbox meanwhile features a lot of handy functions like clearing squad, changing camera rotation, changing squad size limits, setting up old XCOM: EU gameplay modifications like Not Created Equal/Damage Roulette/Hidden Potential, etc. Very good stuff, very customizable.

In my experience it's been fun! But I also use a lot of mods and some, I think, like the battle rifles (+1 dam, -1 mobility) kind of allayed some of the bullshit like the insane armor on the drones.

But once you get pas that intial stage of "fuck rookies and their inability to hit or crit even when I hand them flank shots" it's not too bad. Some of the new enemies are pretty spooky but I haven't met anything that's as frustrating as old LW design, aside from the drones.

And honestly, you get your own bullshit to counter it if you take the LW perks. You remember Assaults? You remember how nice CCS was? Now imagine parking an assault right on a reinforcement flare.

It's every bit as disgusting as you might think. At least until she runs out of ammo or misses three times in a row.

I wouldn't say any of the official DLC stuff "ruins" a first playthrough in any sense of the word. However, it could be an idea to hold it back so you could slap some variety and novelty onto a second or third campaign as well.

The main cosmetic pack is Anarchy's Children. It caused astronomical amounts of butthurt here in /xcg/ when it was first revealed because of its goofy and over-the-top style, but I personally love that stuff.

I don't particularly feel like being a dick, so here it goes.
Anarchy is the most divisive dlc. It's only customization options and the majority of those suck. Some are decent, most aren't, PC has mods to take care of that.
Alien hunters is fun, if you enjoy suffering do the mission asap in your first campaign and get wiped on month three. Consensus is to do the first scan, use the weapons you get if you feel like, don't use them if you want vanilla experience. They kinda break the game if you use them constantly.
Do keep the mission active (if it even lets you choose on consoles) or your first playthrough is a guaranteed wipe.
Shen's last gift is decent, but Sparks need mods to be of any use. The main benefit is having a heavy weapon platform before you get EXOs, but they're inferior to a normal soldier. Especially so in legendary, since doing that mission on ballistics is insanity.

Get it if you want, but ignore the actual dlc content for your first playthrough.
Rulers are better fought when you already know a bit about the game.

Just bad rolls, flashbangs are fantastic against all sorts of stuff throughout the entire game.

The thing is that when you get hit by a disoriented enemy they're usually going to crit because of how the rng works.

As far as I know disorient lowers accuracy rating but not crit rating so if the enemy had a 20% to crit and their aim was knocked down to 15% then if they hit you they're going to crit you.

The game takes a single roll and if the roll is above the hit threshold then you hit and if it's over both the crit and hit threshold it crits.

It must suck to die a rookie. Just imagine the harsh life living through the Alien war and the occupation, fighting with the rebels out on the fringes and making friends, maybe find your first love. Then the greatest day of your life comes and you're taken to the Avenger to join THE Xcom. The Commander is even there and Bradford, all the great heroes you've heard about, out kicking the asses of the aliens. The Commander even picks you to go on the next mission and is oddly helpful with decorating your armor. You spend all night making friends with your squad mates and telling stories and tossing one back to all the photos on the wall.
And then the day comes and you rope down and prepare to enter the legend.

Only you completely lose your shit when a stray plasma shot vaporizes your squadmates head and you run into the nearest building in a blind panic only to come face to face with the Viper King looking to stick his dick into something warm.


Someone back at base has to look over the mission report and write up a suitably heroic death because it would be bad for moral if the next batch of replacements finds out that the last guy died from having an alien dick rip their intestines out through their ass.
