Well too bad, in real life spaceship design will be dictated by mathematically derived optimum solutions. Unfortunately for everyone involved that's what the optimum design looks like. I know it sucks. We've had this conversation before here, on /sci/, on /k/, /tg/, everywhere anyone might remotely ask about what real space combat would be like. Still, I want a game that does that. That's why I like the idea behind CHODE.
>>155736832
Get a mod that lets you put logic gates really close together. Then get back to us and even if you don't know what you're doing we'll feed you diagrams.

>Well too bad, in real life spaceship design will be dictated by mathematically derived optimum solutions. Unfortunately for everyone involved that's what the optimum design looks like.
Fuck you cubes are the most efficient design
>>155737221
a lot of it is down to just plain shitty and undetailed graphics
real rockets aren't smooth cylinders
>>155555228
Question for all of you:
As an afterthought I filled a 5x10x20 empty section of my hulll with a laser system. I then stuck a dinky little turret on it and the fucking asshole does more damage than my four main turrets together.
What the fuck.
Anyways: I was thinking of moving the superstructure back a bit to put this laser turret above my two front guns, but then it might look like the superstructure is too far back. Should I move my two front guns forward instead?
>>155734205
>Get a mod that lets you put logic gates really close together.
>there's a mod that lets you disable part collision
>and one that removes the build limit
>you could compress infinite logic gates into one spot
>and probably make a completely programmable computer
Hmmm
>>155737428
They are not, they limit your arc of fire from each individual weapon. Lasers are gonna look pretty much the same as they do now, with the ball mirror contraption we currently use on weaponized lasers. You can depress that really fucking far if you don't have ship there to own goal.
>>155737529
Lasers also don't haverecoil
>>155737529
>limited arc of fire
>implying you will be shooting in more than a 90 degree cone ever.
>implying all battles won't be fought by 1000000MT nuclear warheads accelerated to .8C by railgun-like things.
>implying you can hide in space.
>implying the first one to shoot doesn't immediately destroy the opponent.
War in space doesn't work.

you could compress some logic gates into one spot until it crashes
FTFY
>>155737529
>>155737428
the most optimal space ship design is a wedge. that way any point defense turrets you have will have a strong overlap in field of fire. any other foresight is pointless since even the smallest fragment from a canister round will blow a hole straight through your spaced armor regardless
>>155737459
Real rockets don't have armor, that's why it's a cylinder.
>>155737520
We've thought about that for a while but nobody bothered. With /egg/ on a low level computing binge I think someone might actually try it. With the factory DLC it might even be semi-useful.
>>155737638
Dude we've been over this. The recoil isn't nearly that bad and this ships have much more mass than you seem to think.
And lasers that operate at levels sufficient to quickly damage more than black construction paper do put out a measurable if negligible amount of recoil.
>>155737386
I'm not sure about your guns, but your camouflage is certainly impressive
>>155737748
putting an explosive on a high velocity projectile isn't really that great an idea
same reason they switched to sabot rounds on the abrams, cheaper and just as effective
>>155736832

Yeah, and form a plasma that ablates off of the second layer instead of penetrating. Did you miss the thread yesterday?
>>155737771
I was hoping people would leave them neatly arranged so we could look at it.
>>155737902
real armor isn't a smooth cylinder either
the guns are a cylinder stuck to a sphere, the thrusters are bells stuck to spheres
it's just shitty programmer graphics
>>155737951
>implying the velocity is there to deal damage, and not to just deliver the payload before countermeasures can know it has been fired.

>>155741416
Chode still tickles my particular brand of autism, so I'd be fine to find a place to discuss it with anyone else who wants even if it turns out not to be /egg/. I still like the fact everything is done with the proper formulas where they can be. I'm still tickled to see he actually put 'I couldn't find the Casaba Howitzer specs so I guesstimated the best I could' under limitations because that should be fairly obvious. I hope they're as moon-shatteringly powerful as they're memed to be.

>>155740291
It's for a week. My desktop doesn't have internet access, but I can get wifi from elsewhere, so no screenshots.
I've not yet unlocked ship designer (though remember, you can 'cheat' unlock everything.
Projectile weapons have recoil. Their range is limited by the vibration of the barrel. If you hit an enemy with a ton of firepower it will also push them.
From what I know about naval guns, their projectile mass irl was limited by the ability of the entire mass of the ship to act as a stable platform for repeated shooting. That's why ww1 naval guns were scaled with the rest of the ship. Not sure if the game will behave the same if you put a stupidhuge gun on your ship.
Nukes aren't very impressive in space. I've had better results with conventional flak missiles.
I can retrieve the in-game physical properties of materials if you want.
And thats all, as far as I saw every parameter showed can be modified and all modifications are seen in real time.
Goodnight.

Alrighty; here's what's in the game that you can play right the fuck now:
>"Shoot a retarded AI that can lead shots way better than your fleshy ass"
And
>alt+f4
We plan to have the following, and by plan, we're mostly sure most of this is possible and relatively simple to do.
Simulator: Basically the same as it is now, but multiplayer, but you're locked into a first person perspective, and the only assists you have are dedicated modules, such as IR, RADAR, EM, and so on. Resources are far more stringent than standard mode. Fuel burns faster, ammunition is heavier and more volatile, modules are more delicate, and so on.
AI Cockfight: Exactly what she sounds like, captain. The new AI system allows for actual arena awareness, and in the future will allow for blueprint-like programming of the AI's behavior tree.
Single player campaign: Open maps, very big. Big objective to kill, voice acting. Think Ace Combat. Feel like an hero.
Ground combat: Exactly what it sounds like, nerd. Basically the same, but with gravity and bits that let you move over land without ramming into it like an idiot.
Some sorta RTS-like: Think FTD campaign, but not turbo bad. More like mechwarrior tactics after it had a one-nighter with homeworld, really.
Multiplayer: Its like, multiple players, my dude. Kill the other dudes. With the new structure system, it'll be feasible to have somewhere around 6-10 ish players in one game at once.
TDM: Kill the other dudes, but not all of them. Only most and/or half of them.
MOBA, but not really; AI drones are spawned in equal measure on either side, and will fight on equal terms for the rest of eternity until you fix it with bullets. There's some other guys trying to fix you with bullets. Don't let them do that. First dudes to kill the enemy big macguffin is declared winrar.
Wildcard: Have some rando engineer build your shit, and you fight with that, against some other poor bastard with the same problem.
2000 word tl;dr. Good.
>it begins
>>155765759
>>155765397
O2 has an expansion rate os 1/846. If it expands perfectly and so 10 thousand liters of 02 would fill a gaseous volume of 8460000 liters. That has a radius of more or less 150 meters. 10 thousand liters would fit in a station of 10x10x10 meters. This is just silly math but can show you the scales of things. Seeing that ratio is for room temperature and normal pressure in vacuum it would be much larger, therefore much less dense.
>>155766305
>Multiplayer: Its like, multiple players, my dude. Kill the other dudes. With the new structure system, it'll be feasible to have somewhere around 6-10 ish players in one game at once.
>space circuit to have space carmageddon races without weapons and based on ram the fuck out others out of the race or out of combat

>>155766554
Still, proves that the only scary part are the shit that gets expelled from the start of the explosion or the biggest chunk that faces the biggest expansion without desintegrating.
Radiation is still enough to fry any living thing inside a ship without being a ball of lead.
>>155767063
shockwave'd probably get you first regardless, turn you into a fine meaty paste.
>>155767063
Are you retarded? A nuke in space is just a really powerful light bulb. Radiation from bombs on earth comes from irradiated dust and air that gets sucked in.
>>155766305
Wildcard sounds interesting. What are your thoughts on asymmetric tdm, i.e. one team has fewer players but a higher allotment per player of resource points or whatever your equivalent is?
>>155770064
Uhhhhhhh no. You're thinking fallout. There is a substantial radiation burst from the explosion itself
>>155770064
that's why I'm thinking it could be beneficial to use the nuke primarily as a catalyst for a molten penetrator similar to a HEAT
bonus is in space it'll keep going for a long time and not lose much heat, so it could be detonated from quite some distance rather than having to wait for the missile to be right near the armor
>>155770849
Why is known as light. EM radiation. Not nuclear radiation.
>>155771003
>it'll keep going for a long time and not lose much heat, so it could be detonated from quite some distance rather than having to wait for the missile to be right near the armor

>asymmetric
Already planning on it, my dude. A higher rated player challenging a lower rater player will have to player on the lower's terms. Which is to say, give themselves an advantage. Extending this to team games in order to balance unevenly numbered teams isn't much of a stretch beyond that.
I recall robocuck doing this, but in an amazingly retarded way.
>>155771169
You do realize that there are many types of radiation, right? And that EM radiation can be ionizing if it's high energy?
Nuclear detonations produce gamma rays and neutron radiation, both of which are very bad for people
>>155771003
Fun fact: shaped charges don't care about how hot stuff is. The more important part is that the projectile be moving at an absurdly high speed. Also, generally distance for shaped charges matters because the projectile falls apart. Keeping molten copper in a useful shape when it's flying through the air at 10km/s is pretty much impossible. Not sure how it would work when it's moving through a vacuum rather than an atmosphere, but the same problems would crop up.
>>155771169
There have been no unlined shaped charges produced for over sixty years. All modern shaped charges are made with a molten penetrator.
And in a Casaba Howitzer the 'cone' is made of a specialized beryllium compound that focuses the blast of the nuclear detonation in a particular direction, first used to impact Orion plates, then focused into a projectile like a classic shaped charge w/ liner (aka HEAT). The difference being that you could crack the fucking moon with it.

Anyone else played Factorio with every setting on default but bitters both on max?
I managed after a few tries and even got a rocket launch. Once i got plenty of power and laser turrets it was pretty easy. There was the occaisional breaktrought when to many turrest where firing at the same time for to long and made my power run out. But with +- 300 batteries that became more rare.

>>155555228
I would move the two turrets slightly forward and raise them by a block, or just the back one.
Front looks too empty and long, I looked up a few modern heavy cruisers and they have a similar issue, if I was making it, I would try for it to look like this from the side, I think it's a nicely balanced beefy looking outline.
Your turrets just look weirdly disproportional somehow in a way that I can't quite define.
>>155790620
Now that I look at it, I think it's because the superstructure doesn't extend to the front enough to be below the turrets, if you just put even a row of blocks below the entire thing it would look more solid than now (I did look it up and I do realize that turrets, especially front ones, literally spring out of the deck on a shitload of ships, but it looks weird to me).

That lump on top hides a heliblade, there's also secondary heliblades in the front and in the back.
The main propulsion is a custom jet and two big jets for lateral movement. Strafing is something i don't usually see in FtD, but the movement jets in the back make it move in a S like way that helps avoid some fire.

Looks nice but that's a lot of space for very little dakka
What do you have belowdecks?
>>155816912
>what do you have belowdecks
lots of dakka (on the big bote), the main guns (except the railgun) fire continuously at around 1 round ever half a second until they run out of ammo, the missiles pretty much erase anything they touch, the particle cannons (not pictured in this old pic) drain pretty much all the energy the railgun would use (need to fix that)
On the mid bote i there were more missiles (64 instead of the 32 on the image) but i forgot to save that version, they do take up quite some space though (they're very compact inside, mid and big bote have around 4-6 layers of armor)
the smol bote is just a bote i did on a budget of 7k (even though it's 30k) in the campaign.

>>155819031
There's no re-entry heat and you don't actually move in orbit.
Just make sure you find a reasonably flat spot or a landing pod that doesn't need them.
Also, ordinary thrusters are awful on planets, if you want to not drop like a rock you'll need atmos thrusters or hydrogen rockets.
>>155816821
ah I see, I guess it appears in the production menu?
I thought I could just dump stone in it and it would make it gone
>>155819031
Not an awful lot really.
Just make sure you have a LOT of atmo downthrust.
Possibly also a hydrogen thruster system for breaking atmo again if you want to into space.
Make sure to have landing gear or something equivalent with a decent standoff from the ship's hull, so you dont accidentally clang your main hull to death on a rock or tree or some shit.
Also, if youre landing on an Earth-like, I suggest aiming for the blue bits. 'Water' is actually just big fields of ice in spengies. Point being it's flat as fuck. Great landing spot.
>>155817530
The guns i'm not sure of the dimension underneath, i just built them to fit, but probably around 10 blocks wide at the biggest, inside is mostly small compartments for ammo, fuel, engines, etc.
The ships aren't that big really, the smallest is 80m long, the mid one is 161m long, and the biggest 200m long, they're all under 25m wide.
>>155819642
Forgot to add, some deck space was left empty on purpose for a helicopter i'm working on, it will hover around the ship to repair (not that it's really needed considering the ship is already repaired seconds after damage is done) and maybe chuck a missile or two towards the enemy.

thank you very much for the repsonses, should've probably given more detail. the spessbote is a big ship, 1x2x2 heavy armor on each corner is landing gear, it also has to haul 2 large ion thrusters as it's the back part of a two part ship, connected per merge blocks. ideally it should land normally (that means no 200m lithobraking pole) and take off again, hydrogen thrusters seems like the preferred option. i don't know how to set up all that hydrogen thingy with all these blocks though, way too complicated for a simple anon like me

Not really. Its changed for the worse. theres new maps and parts, but the balance between parts is all over the place. The devs already stated that they are aiming for a 12 year old tween audience, so anything complicated is being removed from the and easy to use shits being added.

Bigger waves of missiles don't really get you more effect on target, generally they'll fratricide each other. You want a big enough wave that 3-6 missiles get through, or you need to stagger your waves.
A few things which I have found to help:
Use the auto intercept, don't try to get a manual one. You want to have 0 lateral motion when your missiles enter combat space. Between the ship you're attacking and the lateral motion of your missiles its easy for most of them to miss. Remember, Striker missiles need to be within 50 meters or they won't detonate at all, and Devastators need to be within 1 km. If a missile misses in the first pass, it'll probably not have the DV to make a second attack run, and if it does it'll be slow enough that PD will kill it.
Stagger missile waves. Set the missiles to drift (no order) at battle start You can change the selection so that you can control missiles in groups of 5. Have them go to smart homing 1 group of 5 at a time. Maybe every .5 seconds or so.
Smaller nukes suck at killing anything but engines in my experience, but bigger ones can vaporize whole ships if they get a good hit. I like to send a first wave of strikers to kill the engines, as they have a lot of DV to catch a dodging ship. Once the engines are dead, get a good intercept with big nukes and get a single one through. I don't like using mixed waves, makes long range attacks harder and doesn't seem to help a lot.
>>155839871
In my experience targeting weapon subsystems is a receipt for a whole lot of nothing. They're tough and don't need to be close to critical systems. Attacking big radiators tends to work the best for me. They're always close to reactors, and its an easy way to shut a ship down.
>>155844820
>Set reference frame to target ship
>????
>Join
After looking through the stock CHODE ships, I have determined they are rear heavy.
1. Radiators are on rear
2. Engines and power supply are on rear
3. Heat seeking missiles target the radiators
4. Ship ded
Also the stock launchers are awful, about 5 times larger and 10 times more power consuming and half as fast as any sane design because the stock ones insist on dumping drones and missiles out at high velocity.
The missile mission in CoaDE is just bullshit. Once you've got missiles figured out to make sure they hit, they still do pretty pathetic damage.
In my case the nukes pushed the other ship off course so much from repeatedly blowing up near it, that it pushed the ship into solar orbit. Disabled aside from it's weapons, it was hopeless. Both my ship and the station were fine.
>Mission failed - our assets damaged beyond repair
ok then
Rip BLAZINGFAST the first.

Alright guys, I'm finally getting off my ass and trying to make a good campaign viable carrier.
What do now? The scramble deck in the front builds and launches interceptors, but I'm planning on adding at least one other deck for docked planes/subvehicles.
I'm planning maybe one or two more of the current CRAM guns, but I want opinions so I can make this ship both good and aesthetic as fuck.
>>155851796
Those crams are pretty small, why not use APS instead?
>>155851796
>that deck layout
>>155851968
Fair point; I'll have to wait until I get the layout finalized before making another pass at them. I've got the 'turret-in-turret' design for the guns, so I have to balance their turning speed with the side parts.
>>155851971
Okay, I know it doesn't make any sense, let me explain: I've tried to set up multi-plane decks before and they're a dick, especially if I want to build something in place. This is a compromise; a short front deck that launches an interceptor fighter, while I can have a second deck launch a variety of other kinds of plane.
I'm working on amending the front design to accomodate some small AA or CIWS guns too, so it's a bit involved...
>>155852661
You need VTOL naval fighters is the problem.
How does a gaem become /egg/ tier?
>>155852984
That would be the smart decision, but I designed the deck with a plane I've already made in mind.
I've been experimenting with VTOL designs, but nothing's been as exceptional as this little bastard; so churning out a bunch of these is great. I considered making three short decks like this to launch 3 at once, but I figure that'd cause some serious cost creep.
Come watch debate /egg/s
>>155853523
That's a very large aircraft for such a tiny CVE.
>>155853523
Are you very early in the game? because i just built a campaign viable carrier that can carry around 10 of my microfighters (which by the way don't fucking want to sit on the deck properly and instead dig into it) and still would have extra space, i'm also not exactly far into the game, considering i've only captured 4 resource zones out of which only 2 are permanent (the starting one and the davy jones outpost)

Ohboyherewego.jpg
>>155853840

I'm building in creative in preparation; but yeah, this is intended to be an early game CVL. The plane is designed to go toe-to-toe (by which I mean, fucking destroy) with DWG planes while still being good for later game.
The plane flys a hot (actually, super cool, which makes it hard to target with heat seekers) 100 m/s and has AA missiles and a machine gun.
Plane costs about 2500; and the carrier so far is costing about 20k, but it's far from finished.

Better layout?
Based on everybody's feedback I'm leaving the front deck as is, but I'm going to create more large-scale aircraft to build and launch from it; I'm also going to build a smaller wing for regular air combat
>>155859457
That looks more useable.
Now paint it.
What I don't get is why people don't build static 'carriers' on land, also known as airbases.
>>155860257
Because you won't see them take off very often if you do that, with an airbase you'd either build one every now and then or have planes take off from miles away, with a carrier you can just move the airfield closer to the battle.
Trump's finished
>>155860453
Much, much larger aircraft, and more specialized ones. Huge fuel and ammo reserves. Can use LUA scripts for automated responses.
Generally bases can be places where you leave an automated army.

My carrier is now functional, the plane on it is neither mine nor the one i'm gonna be using (it's way too big, i want to carry at least 4 and have a lot of extra space)

>>155864831
Welcome to CVE aesthetics.
How do carriers work in FtD? Is it fully functional as in you can launch crafts?
>>155865285
It's just a ship with planes stuck to it with docking ports, they basically make the plane part of the carrier, taking off is just as simple as releasing the plane with it's AI on, it does the rest on it's own.

There's a trick against missiles
If they are coming in a straight line against you, just do 180 degree turns for a while. They'll run out of fuel and you won't have to care for them.

There are contrast seekers which might follow single pixels for a while (the fun thing is they lose accuracy when they get close to targets). And if you think through it really doesn't make sense, I mean a missile costs a bagazilion of dollars (Planes costs several thousand bagazilions), why keep back and install a shit sensor if you can have a better one for the same space and weight? And the extra costs is good because:

The highest amount of violence and crimes comes from rightwing neonazis. This is followed by property damages of the left extremists. After that, we get isolated areas where drug dealers of any origin stab and shoot each other.

There are single pixel sensors. They're called a reticle seekers or conscan seekers. Both are slightly different ideas, in one a special filter spins around infront of a sensor, in another a reflector spins around infront of the sensor.
bonus being one big element can pick up far more energy so should give far more range. Also far simpler, aside from an algorithm to work out direction.

place a component that needs heat dissipation, then click on the component, and there should be a thermometer button in the panel on the right. That lets you place radiators for that component
Is there any game in wich I can build steam engines? or at least some sort of reciprocating engine?
>>155900081
That's what i was thinking of doing, but i spent so much time getting the planes to sit properly that i didn't even bother adding a counterweight.

FtD will allow you to build steam engine soon(tm)
>>155922856
Oh shit i totally forgot that [Insert name of unificator] was working on those.
>>155922856
Using the unified resource system, you'll be able to burn UNIFIED RESOURCES instead of fuel, which you will also be able to turn into steam.
>>155920613
The problem lies in three deep issues.
1) No man is equal to any other. All humans on this world have their value, value of their skills, of their manners, of their genetic predispositions and flaws. But you can't know a value of a human, it depends on too many factors, too many variables to account for, so you can at best have some estimates based on what you know about him, and then revise that after learning more about him. Ill-understanding humanitarians want us to accept everyone regardless of their estimated and actual worth and want to enforce equal outcome for everyone there. It's sick, it goes against our long-term interest, and it ends up with rise of crime that paints all immigrants in bad light.
2) Cultures aren't equal either. They also differ between, with varying levels of emphasis on different values, what issues they seem to prioritize, what solutions they bring. There are cultures more humane, and more brutal. More enlightened, and more savage. Yet people screaming "Celebrate diversity" claim no differences between them, and want us to bow down to other cultures, just because they are different. They claim they learnt from it, but they don't. In end practices that are detrimental to majority end up '''justified''' or '''glorified''', solely because they differ from native culture of a land.
3) """Progressive""" policies are damaging civilization of mankind by creating dependencies on state, promoting ideological inequality, enforcing lavish ''economical'' programs which damage societies to the deepest level and funneling people from nonwhite countries to white countries for 'diversity', while immigrant's countries of origin usually stay ethnically monolithic.

>Racism is a crime in the rest of the world
No, it isn't. Wikipedia lists a staggering 28 countries (out of 196 countries in the world, roughly) with hate speech laws, most of which are European. Countries like Jordan and Singapore have "hate speech" laws that are more against insulting religion. And there's one African country with hate speech laws, apparently.
Hate speech is free speech. Boo hoo if you don't like it. White supremacists might be distasteful, but they have their right to speak their mind - just as you do, and I find you distasteful as well. Same for the Hispanic supremacists, black supremacists, etc.
>I bet you are a dumb fat amerishit etc.

That's actually an increadibly moderate position.
The law should not adjudicate any matters based on emotion - feelings and subjectivity have no place in what is supposed to be an objective judge of the truth. That's what one of the functions of the jury system is supposed to be, destroying emotional influence by selecting individuals from varied and diverse backrounds incapable of feeling the same exact way about everything.
Doesn't wind up working that way en praxis, that's what it should do.

Yes to both of those. REM's structural integrity simulation is far and away better than any block system ever, the terminal ballistics (penetration) mechanics are balls-out superior. The only thing you're missing out on is designing subsystems themselves.
