You need a certain mindset and commander setup to Yodo properly. You want to be a spotter once the DDs are dead (because you have a radar that is slightly less powerful than elite'd T6 DDs) and use your TBs mainly to harrass BBs or CAs/CVs with brain problems. Your AA is a no-fly zone, use that to ruin CVs and bully any spotter plane that dares to come near you.
My Yodo setup is Yamamoto, Macmillan, Luckner, Kimura Kazuo and Arnault Shelby. With it I get a decent amount of spotting and disguise to be a decent spotter and Mac helps removing any DD that I find on close quarters. Shelby helps with your (very limited) TBs and Yamamoto's active is fully used by Yodo once you master the art of shooting and TBing at the same time.

It tries but if it can't assemble balanced teams it'll just throw in whatever is closest. so you can get 2BB 1DD vs 2 BB 1 CV or something even stranger. Just depends on what the players available are. Also stacks will mess it up, since they can't be divided. So you can get something like 2 BB 2 DD vs 4 BB or so, if the first team has a division with 2 DDs or so, even if theoretically the MM could make 2 balanced teams with 3 BB 1 DD each.

Competition mode is team reattach. Respawns are given vs the normal die once and back to port. And it can occur at any tier.

That said, for tiers 1-3 the developers added AI players to provide practice targets, speed up new player queues, and is forced as TDM if they are present.

If 16 humans (8v8) players are not in queue after a time, it procs AI.

You can get out of T1 in a match, and T2 in a few. So prior to the AI, since this game wasn't very noticed, New players faced massive queue times sometimes, which led to them quitting quickly. But since AI was added numbers have been increasing.

It's the ranked of this game, pretty close to what LoL is, you can queue alone, or with other 1-2-3 people more and queue to fill the 5 man team, or queue with a 5-man team, versus another 5 guys. wins net you points, loses substract points. The higher you are in the ladder you get less points per win and lose more points per defeat. At the end of the season you get tons of gold (and some unimportant shit) depending on your place in the ladder. Seasons go for 3 months.

You can still join, the tiers that can into 5v5s are 4 to 6 for DDs and subhumans, 5 to 7 for BBs,CVs,CAs and CLs.
Keep in mind that since the reward is jewgolds, all the tryhards will jump on them so be ready for a real match.

Queen Elizabeth is really, really good. Some people will say it is as good as the Pennsylvania. These people are wrong, but not by much, it is a near thing, shell saturation and projectile velocity still goes to the Pennsylvania.

The King George V though, is very possibly the best Tier 7 Battleship. Goes fast, good damage, good pen, and the quad turrets make for astoundingly good shell saturation and consistency, combined with an astoundingly high rate of fire makes it good at removing underage from the premises, and making sure the enemy battleship doesn't have time between your salvos to aim in.

The Nelson is interesting. All the turrets are forward, which is helpful, but they aren't all superfiring, so you still have to angle a broadside for the third turret, albeit you can do this at a more shallow angle. No scoutplane, meh secondaries, really good damage on the main artillery.

Battlecruisers don't seem to do well, less armor, fewer turrets, and cannot actually outrun fast battleships. Just like in real life, they aren't very good.

The Scharnhorst has most of what you mentioned but trades off some HP for extra mobility and soem damage for extra pen and an insane range while having very good AA.
In short, the best T7 BB is the one you feel the most confortable in.
Colorado and Hood are fucking trash.

Scharnhorst doesn't have the quad turret shell grouping, it has low projectile velocity, and poor damage in comparison. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but to me these are major drawnbacks.

They're great BBs on their own, the low damage is mitigated by high accuracy and penetration. Shell dispersion is important but both in total have 9 guns so it turns into a matter of who's luckier on the salvo.
Like I said, most of the T7 BBs are great ships and some will feel better than others to different players.
Exept the Colorado and Hood, they're plainly bad.

KGV has ten guns, a quad on the front and back and a double behind the first quad. The RN tried to put three quad turrets on it but it was too heavy so they had to replace the middle one.

It's less "It has this many guns" and more "many of these guns are clustered together so they all hit from the same angle and in the same area" which is a major point of suffering on the Colorados all double turrets. The Scharns 3x3 turrets are still good at this and have German accuracy to back them, but not quite as good as what I've had happen with the higher damaging quads.

Also having someone with 2k matches played in the tornament would probably discourage the newer players.

I just don't believe many players would like to join a separate tournament that's only for bad players, unless you sell it as something different. Increasing the cut off would help with that and it doesn't have to be 55, just somewhat above 50.

Also WR as an skill indicator doesn't work so well with people that haven't played that much, it can drop or increase 1 or 2 percent per session.

TL;DR:

Anyways. Chatted a bit and found out stuff. Listed some of it here while being vague.

On a few posts by the Steeloceandev Twitter account Baron had gone "hey, DM me about Steel Ocean" then "DM" on a few posts. The Devs did not know what that meant (Direct Message, private chat) and so did not open communications other than an initial "I'm listening"

>DIIN's Tournament
The tourney idea was suggested to SO by a DIIN so they figured "sure, why not" but it was suggested too late for a "custom mode" to be added in time for SO's anniversary. And foresight wasn't really applied to the logistics of a tourney.
And DIIN have seemingly let "go ahead and set up a tournament and we will give a few rewards" get to their heads.

And DIIN has all to gain and very little risk should the tournament wind up "very fishy"/rigged, and Steel Ocean could take a hit. But if it does well could be good. A two-edged sword of sorts.

Elder had in the topic mentioned ways that the legitimacy might be maintained and DIIN (Ice Forge) blew up which added another layer to "this seems fishy" and an SO dev/manager/contact got involved with the DIIN guy to shut down his "elder probably doesn't even talk to the devs, should be banned/removed blah blah" rant. (Contact made behind the scenes it would seem)

And... we'd had a chat about publicity and how he's hoping for a thing for Livorno.
And that if I was wanting to do a contest our tournament I could try contacting Steel Ocean through a new means. And the guy in the position is 'new' to the position but a longtime member of the team.. just newer to being "the contact" so he tends to reply in a timely manner.
