I've played this game for 6 years and have spent less than $80 total on it. These days there are plenty of events that give you a few cash shop items, or events that let players buy cash shop items for gold on the marketplace.

You can even bypass the ugly look of your basic underwear/hair by exchanging your points used to upgrade skills to buy temporary cash shop underwear/hair, which I have been doing with no issues since creating a new character in July. Most of the Karoks I see anyways are in fact wearing edgy shit (Nightmare fused gear, armageddon set, void reaper, etc.). If not those then they're probably too fucking poor but I wouldn't doubt for a second that if they had the gold and money they would buy and fuse their gears for some stupid shit.

You can tell who the good and bad karoks are just by what they wear. Bad karoks use black/red + edgy armor, bonus points if using cestus. Good karoks use more natural colors, metal armors or other armors that aren't immersion breaking.
