Medusas still spawn in pre-hm if the world is in expert mode. Though I think they must have a lower spawn rate because I haven't seen too many of them.

New fun thing to do for a few tries.

Use cheatsheet. Set the spawn to x.25. Dose up with a calming potion, set down a peace candle, get into town, and use a solar tablet at dawn. The spawn is so low that it's like a normal day with a creepy sky and the music, except ONCE in a while, one or sometimes two eclipse spawns will arrive.

Play a character of sufficient challenge to attempt survival for the daynight.
