Same here, it was a sad way to start the day.
>>
So uh, for the next thread:
- Remove the /acg/ pastebin (http://pastebin.com/Ek3kMtZW), it's outdated and replace it with http://pastebin.com/WSq32Amg

-Look into the archives and rescue the recommendation pastebin, the current one is just the main pastebin but misnamed. Or just remove it altogether, not like it's up to date anymore.

AC 6 when?
>>
>>
About to start up V as my first AC game. I heard a lot of things about 4 and 4A being kinda like the black sheep of the series. Not sure how much of that is true but here I am at V. VD is the direct sequel to V right?

>>155220303
ok, V is not the best place to start, specially since the pvp is down for good.

>4/4A being black sheep

False, speically 4A, they main hate they get is how fast they are and how easy they are compared to previous game, but those a good entries for a newbie.

Check pic related.
>>
>>155223149
>>155220303

V is not a good place to start because it was designed for online-only and the servers are down.

Verdict day is probably the best place to start. You don't lose much. The story in VD takes place ~100 years after V (V and VD are really similar to AC2 and AC2:AA in that way).

AC1 through last Raven:
>Single Player Focus
>Main enemies are other ACs
>Slower ground based combat
>Flight but no Quickboost
>Very restricted amounts of energy
>Later parts are obviously better than early ones
>Technological society atmosphere

AC4 and FA
>Single Player Focus
>Main enemies are large NPCs
>Fast aerial combat
>Flight with Quickboost
>nearly infinite energy
>All parts are about the same usefulness
>Deserted apocalypse atmosphere

ACV/VD
>Multiplayer Focus
>Main enemies are NPCs and other ACs
>Slower ground based combat (Shared with LR)
>"floating" with Quickboost (shared with 4)
>restricted energy (shared with LR)
>All parts are about the same usefulness (shared with 4)
>Deserted apocalypse atmosphere (shared with 4)

4 and 4A is definitely the "black sheep" of the series, but VD is a "grey sheep" also. It shares a lot of similar elements with the PS2 games but most of the atmosphere and game design is closer to FA.
>>
>>155224492
Also, by "later parts are obviously better than early oes" I mean that in the Pre-PS3 games most of the parts you get in the first third of the game are replaced by universally "Better" versions of them later. In 4th and 5th gen (probably for multiplayer balance) you start off with equipment that is still useful at the end of the game. More parts just unlocks more customization options. AC4/FA in particular changed it up by having no "starter" equipment, you start with parts used by some of the strongest enemies, but you use "tuning" points acquired throughout the game to raise your total power instead.
>>
>>155220303
ACV is an okay game, but don't let it give you a strong opinion on AC in general. It's generally considered to be one of the worst games in the franchise.

It might not look like much but it's a giant milestone in the development. For the demo all performance values were hardcoded; they were static numbers I picked to make the player move in a certain way, to get a certain feel. Now however all numbers and thus the performance of the mech are based on whatever the player equipped in the Garage: basically CUSTOMIZATION IS IN

What evidence? the rest of the article is stuff we have already theorized here and probably other AC communities too, I was expecting some new hints.
>>
How would you guys feel if the next armored core was a slower paced(think bloodborne) fantasy/steampunk game?
>>
>>155308863
>fantasy/steampunk

Nah it wouldnt be AC. AC has always being more a kind of cyberpunk (advance technolog but shit society + ruled by companies) At best, it could work as spin off trying to merge Souls serie with AC (maybe more with bloodborne since its a gothic-victorian setting) than a sequel, even if its a reboot.
>>
>>155280359

Armored Core very fast "mech" go! attack number 10
>>
>>155307170
>>155308014

This is the same bullshit article that was posted a few days ago and has since been reposted around the internet with no sources.

The evidence originally claimed that a member of DualShockers got a comment from Miyazaki claiming that AC was "in development" but with no source, no interview, no quote, and no evidence that he was ever in a room with someone from Dualshockers. 24 hours later they deleted the article, but not before it was reposted across the web.
>>
>>155308014
The only hardcore evidence that exists is the loose connection between two interviews, which state:
a) a new armored core game will eventually come out
b) one of the 3 games they're working on is a reboot.

Nothing else is confirmed.

Nah i'm good. Last arc of the series was a complete waste of time. Kubo could've just made a epilogue chapter after the fullbring arc where he has his family and everything in the future. Or, even better. End it after the Aizen fight where Ichigo loses his soul reaper powers and doesn't see the shinigami no more and returns to a normal life, that ending would've been masterful.

From didn't design white glint. Shoji Kawamori did, he was the guy who did the AC2 era designs. They brought him back as a special consultant just for White Glint. The "genius architect" is literally Shoji Kawamori.

Battletech stole a bunch of Kawamori designs (called now the "Unseen") from Macross. They are since no longer available in original form and have been revised visually to no longer be stolen designs.

Guess which one of those designs is an "Unseen"? Phoenix Hawk.

Basically, Kawamori designed a mech for Macross decades ago, and then used that as inspiration for White Glint. In the meantime, separately, Battletech stole his macross design.

I finally got my hands on Verdict Day. I don't know who kept going on about how the V series was slow, cause this game is faster than Last Raven. I know the 4 series was fast as all hell, but they're more an outlier than a base.

Still, I'm enjoying what I got so far. Back then, I never once used energy weapons because I wanted to conserve as much energy as possible, but with V adding damage types in, I started branching out. Pulse Rifles are more fun than I bargained for.

Though, I'm having trouble fighting heavies and tank-types. Guess the added defence in the game made them more practical now.

There hasn't been a new interview. People have been reposting unsourced rumors from an article that was deleted. Not a single word has publicly come out of Miyazaki's mouth about Armored Core in months.

...oh, except this:

"“We are making a new Armored Core. We are still in the early stages of development.” I asked how early, and Miyazaki replied, “I can’t talk about how early it is.”

:D

http://kotaku.com/miyazaki-gives-clear-answers-on-the-future-of-dark-soul-1786887531

They say it was a private roundtable at Bandai Namco's HQ about the future of Dark Souls. Which means there's no quotes or interview recordings, but at least we have a time and a place where this happened. That's better than anything we've gotten in the last year.

>>155388804
Verdict Day is twitchy, but top speed is low. It the acceleration that makes it feel fast.

V is also about 20-30% slower than Verdict Day across the board, so that's another reason why it was called slow. VD was made faster after-the-fact with patches.

The multiple damage types and threshold defense system is the best part of VD. It makes any weapon viable and encourages you to vary your tactics and loadout. The only downside is that part defenses and the high-DPS weapons don't form a smooth curve, there are lots of "breakpoints" where certain weapons dominate against 80-90% of all frames.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/09/21/from-software-working-on-3-games-one-of-which-is-armored-core

And this, this is the second piece of news.

So we have:

1. Kotaku Roundtable at Bandai Namco HQ (no quotes) confirming a new AC is "in development" but can't say how far.
2. IGN Directly asked at TGS (no quotes) and he said Yes.

That's confirmations from two separate, legitimate sources.

There's more to this than you're letting on.
Every map except worst map Abandoned Facility was chock full of things to jump from, meaning lots of high speed jumping and sudden direction changes. VD's speed comes from the fact that everybody has a butt ton of energy and anybody with half a brain can overboost indefinitely. If V's energy had been as lax as VD's, I imagine you'd barely notice a speed difference.

Conspiracy theory time:

Miyazaki started working on Armored Core without Bandai Namco's approval. They're doing design sketches or concepts right now, maybe even more, in a back room.

But since From Software can't admit they are working on "a game" for release because it violates a contract.
>>
>>155409809
I mean the actual speed numbers in the game. Boosters in VD are just more powerful post-patch.
>>
>>
>>155410493
Does Bandai Namco even have any power over From Software or Armored Core?
If anything, it's more likely that they managed to find a publisher and said publisher is preparing some kind of big marketing campaign and doesn't want any info out until its ready.
>>
I think I've finally answered a long wondered question about last raven in the course of this. How does booster accel work?

I think the accel values are the boost power you gain *per frame*. However, boost power =/= speed. It looks like there is a "friction" element based on how fast you're going.

So you actually have 2 accelleration rates. The first is the linear increase in power, and the second is the exponential increase in friction. Your top speed is when (power/weight) / friction = acceleration. Boost acceleration just affects power for the first 3-6 frames or so.
>>
>>155414230
I believe it's been hinted that they still have publishing rights for AC, given that the last time he was asked for it (prior to DS3) he was asked if a new AC game would happen and he said that fans would have to contact Bandai Namco about it.
>>
>>155414820
Accel power means how fast you accelerate to your max speed while boost power increases your maximum speed.
>>
>>155414820
Also, to clarify myself here, is that your top speed is when boost (power / weight) / friction = 1, and if that ratio is lower than 1, you'll slow down (until friction decreases enough), and if that ratio is higher than 1, you'll speed up (until friction increases enough). How far from 1 determines your acceleration at any given point.

It's actually quite a bit more sophisticated than V or 4. 4 has linear accel based on thrust and total weight, and V is a 3 step linear formula. last Raven is actually exponential and more realistic, but probably a lot harder to design for (since it adheres to a more complex formula at any given point).

Also, for the record, this applies to the total "effective" weight of your AC. That's total weight - (unused load cap *0.15).
>>
>>155416149
Nope, not true, from what I've seen. Two boosters with the same accel but more power, the one with more power will reach "top speed" faster even though it has the same accel.

Your time to top speed depends on BOTH power and accel. The top speed depends on power only.

The way I'm seeing it work is that "peak" boost power is reached within a few frames, and you continue to accellerate until friction overcomes your power. Boost accel only affects how quickly you reach peak boost power NOT how quickly you reach top speed.

I'm trying to get an exact formula but right now this is the best I have:

Boost power on any given frame is power/weight * ~142.5

That coefficient (142.5) varies by the weight of the AC. It might be possible that it's not a coeficient at all, but actually a flat amount subtracted (this could fit people's experimental data better). Still figuring it out.

This is the guy doing the LR Balance patch, BTW. Trying to figure out exact formulas for accel so I can make fair heat/drain payoffs for high accel vs high power boosters.

it's a dormant series in a dormant genre owned by a developer who for the past 8 years have been absolutely KILLING IT, albeit with essentially one kind of game.
there has also been a growing "mecha void" among the people and the mediocre trash that comes out today isn't substantial enough to hold the attention of the people for any meaningful amount of time.
FROM has played it pretty safe ever since they hit their stride with demon's and dark souls, and EVERYBODY, even non-AC fans, are excited to see what they do next.
i just want miyazaki himself to be personally involved in the project, ACV was missing so much of the passion that's so readily apparent in 4/FA, and he's clearly capable of working on multiple titles at once so PLEASE let him build the world at least.
one thing's for sure is that this next AC has to make a big fucking splash. i think FROM understands this which is why they've been so evasive lately, but i have faith in them and i think the next AC is going to be great
>>
>>155470126

I also hope for a great AC, they have the talent for it, Miyazaki has show he can do amazing world building and using a minimalistic way for storytelling. I cant wait for the first visual spoilers to know how the ACs will look

Do you want a complete reboot with no connections to past games or to continue VD from VD? this doesnt mean we have to use the same type of AC, it could be closer to NEXT or classics ACs with quickboost.

The only way I can imagine this, is (using V era as basis) is that they give ous some bland frames with basic stats that you can fill with other small parts, each part giving different stats, like having a round leg shield or a square one. Since shoulders tend to be asymetrical, you can place the hangar in any side you want a fill the other shoulder with more plates, a core full of car doors or extra stuff like flashlights, a head with different sized eyes, quad legs with bigger armor on the front legs than the back one.

you can basically do that in last raven with tuning
and in ACV there were a bunch of samey parts with different adornments on them
but yes wouldn't it be cool to be able to change the antenna type on your head for example, or the camera, which would change how the "eye" looks

One other question, does it explain why he tried to use Assault Armor FACING the damn thing? I always attributed it to the cinematic just trying to make him look cool but then I wonder if Assault Armor actually has a much larger range in-universe than what is represented in gameplay.

I think it would be awesome if the next AC installment had a multiplayer arena similar to the Heaven's Arena arc from Hunter X Hunter where you can challenge real life people for ranking and then once you make it to the top ten then you have to hold your rank and if you lose you get sent back to the bottom of the ranks.
>>
>>155495486
Yeah that doesn't work, the top will be full with meta-fags who run only the most cheesiest of setups and drain all the fun out of the game.

It would be better if Ranks were a "capture the ball" sort of thing .They get rewarded to you after you win a match and every time you lose, you lose your rank or you swap with whomever killed you. Then maybe if you don't play ranked for a week, you just lose your rank entirely and everyone else moves up by 1, so you have to start over.

AC3. It's the only intro that really shows a story, a logical progression of events that lead to a conclusion.

Most other intros are just momentary stylized events, but the AC3 intro you have a story arc. Every decision made by the pilots has immediate consequences. You can easily get invested in what's going on instead of it just being "cool music and robots"

AC:MOA is pretty great too. Last Raven is up there too.
>>
>>155502751
He didn't really have to, he could have just narrowly QB'd out of there while evading the cannon and missile barrages, which seems like a pretty trivial thing to do for a LYNX like him. Maybe the reason why he didn't do so initially was because of a VOB malfunction or him just underestimating the mission at first.

I'm not going to try to find reasoning about his other retarded actions during that intro though. I'm just gonna go along and assume that it was for the intro overall "cool" factor by pushing the agenda that Arms Forts were thought to be more powerful than any NEXT in-universe, and to compensate for how lackluster the actual fight is.

Meh, I think you underestimate how frustrating that would be over the long term.

Would it be fun to play a super-heavy blader against a fast dual gunner? Probably not, you are never going to reach him and he'll completely wreck you without even trying, that's how most fights at the top are going to feel if you don't run some generic meta-setup.

>>
>>155511349
The best way going for how ravens are usually ranked in universe, is that for a certain period of time the game keeps record of each player kills, and whoever has the most at the end becomes rank 1, or a system that ranks you how well you did each match (damage done/taken, time alive, accuracy)
>>
>>155511349
Ranked isn't suppose to be fun and it's suppose to push you to your limits in order to win by any means necessary.

It's still a game tho. You can do your best but if the other guys setup is just superior to yours then there isn't much you can do no matter how hard you try.

For example dark souls 3: with the right weapon and some knowledge in hit-detection, online-lag and weapon ranges you can(could?) cheese 99% of the builds and the only people who can do something against you are people with similar cheese builds. This means if you have a duel against anyone who isn't running a 100% meta build you can just sit back and lazily spam one attack/combo while the other guy tries to pull off the game of his life.

The difference is that in Dark Souls you can still get fucked by non-meta weapons if you aren't paying attention.

But in AC, the margins between good builds and bad builds (or counter builds) are huge chasms that most players can't cross.

Armored Core has always had meta, whether it was vertical missile pop shotting or dual nix/HP spam. And VD is actually extremely well balanced if not for the few totally broken min-max builds used on JP.

And really what makes them broken is just the fact that hitboxes for certain weapons are insane and don't have any counter,.
>>
>>155500113

I love the progression of events the intro shows, and the dual duels that occur between the 4 ACs. It even foreshadowed head +limb destruction in later ACs.
>>

What sucked is that ACV and VD were decent games. I can't hate them for trying to be something new, while still being good. It's just that they really botched online and the game's performance. Sub-30 FPS shouldn't be acceptable in an AC game.
>>
>>155527557
V was heavily marked but dead on arrival thanks to all the problems with rushed development. (awful graphics, lots of game-breaking bugs, matchmaking didn't work)

VD was a lot more solid, but got NO marketing.

V actually sold pretty well but it was panned by game critics across the board, and that killed interest very fast.
>>
>>155527557
>>155527798
Didn't help that literally nothing is explained about how to play the game. I'm all for FromSoft's 'figure it out yourself' approach. And, it works in Souls, because the Souls games are exceedingly simple.

"Here's your dude. This button does a light attack. This button does a heavy attack. This one blocks, and that one rolls and runs." With that information alone, you can comfortably play any Souls game. You'll learn things as you go, which is how a game should be, but the game never really gets more complex than 'run, swing, swing, roll, repeat'.

ACV/D, on the other hand, really did need a stronger tutorial than it did. Not, like, explaining what every stat does, or anything, but maybe at least letting the player know that they can press select to find that information out. (Hiding it behind a sub-menu that tells you what buttons do, via a 'start' button prompt in the very, very corner of the screen doesn't count.)

Sadly, a lack of explanation, on virtually anything besides the absolute, bare minimum basics, led many, many players to thinking the games were clunky as fuck, which they certainly are, if you don't know what you're doing. Hell, I still find people on the internets that picked up one of the games on the cheap, and start complaining about how slow and sluggish it is. And this is all before you factor in the nonsense that is the default control scheme.

If the player can't understand how to play the game, then they're going to chalk it up to bad controls, assume the game was $5 because it was garbage, and then throw it aside.

So, if there's one thing, more than an actual marketing campaign, that I hope comes with any new AC entries, it's an actual fucking tutorial. Or at least an instruction manual to replace it.
>>
>>155529362
I think it's more that what is possible in AC isn't immediately evident.

A good AC tutoral would basically involve being in a training exercise where you are shown the controls... and then you get ambushed by a REALLY powerful AC that moves extremely gracefully, so you can see how far you have to go in terms of what you can do.

Ironically, that's what V tried to do but by making the opponent a UW-wileding invincible supermech it sort of ruined the whole point.

ACFA did a decent job with that. AC3's tutorial is probably the best in the whole series. You get to see another AC next to you, you get to fight enemies but at low risk, and you have plenty of time to explore while learning the basics.

This is how I would do it:

1. You, as a new pilot, get your first chance in an AC. You execute a "systems test" where the operator tells you each command and after you do it, you get to SET WHAT CONTROL IT SHOULD BE. At the end, you review your control scheme and confirm.

2. Now you go into an actual training exercise alongside an ally. After you both kill a few MTs, you're interrupted by a badass AC that goes after your ally, ignoring you and eventually destroying him (or going into a cutscene where he destroys him, after a few minutes of actual combat where you can see him fly).

3. After that you go to the garage and you can start customizing.

The important point is to show the potential of what you can do, to show the basic commands, AND to strongly emphasize customizing your controls.

Ultimately, it was a combination of weird decisions, awkward marketing, and a lack of communication between fan and developer that ultimately caused ACV and VD to slip into obscurity. Newfriend here. So if ACV & VD are set after For Answer, is there any indication how long? Just a few hundred years or is it some crazy bullshit in the thousands?

Curious because I find these kinds of settings where technology stagnates for long periods of time and recovers pretty interesting. It also has that whole "forbidden, ancient taboo" shtick going on with NEXTS and Kojima tech for obvious reasons.
>>
>>155537605
Well, like 99% of the population died out in FA due to Kojima poisoning and/or Strayed genociding fucking everything, and V states that humanity is just coming back from living underground for really long, it's probably at least like 250+ years inbetween. After all, nobody remembers the corporations, or AC tech (it gets reverse engineered from the scraps they find on the surface). But I doubt recordkeeping was a big thing, and I'm pretty sure that people's lifespans were a lot shorter due to bad living circumstances and radiation, so generations would pass faster. And a lot of people likely knew very little about what was happening in FA anyways.

Also, there's a second gap between V and VD where most of the radiation clears. We know that Venide's founder, Cesar Venide, was around at the same time as V's protag. But back the they were just a small band of people who crossed the ocean with Carol's help, and in VD they and Sirius are basically the old rivaling forces, with the Foundation serving as the Establishment. And V's protag, along with Father and the Corporation, have become a legend.
Given how Kojima is basically super nukes and how long nuclear radiation takes to disappear, you can assume that from FA to VD is somewhere between 500-1000 years with V set halfway inbetween.
>>
>>155541946
Oh, and for anyone bringing up the Foundation Man/Isaac, I'm pretty sure his physical body is long gone in VD. I'm also pretty sure Chief kills him after his plan failed at the end of the game.
>>
>>155541946
Very interesting, thanks. I'm writing a fic and I wanted to at least tie in VD if it's part of FA, but my VD copy won't be coming until Monday and world information is pretty scarce. That's a good point about generations passing faster too.

since using big weapons on bipeds on V/VD makes you kneel and deploy the leg shield; having a extra weapon for those moments could be fun.

>>155541946
On V, we dont have a specific time on how long has been since FA, but if we take Kojima contamination similar to a nuclear winter, how long is theorized one will last? but from V to VD, we know that the timeframe is 100 years, and during that time both, the factions grew on size and the contamination dissapeared, Sirius and Venide being the first one to make contact, shortly after Evergreen join the fight and has been like that for some decades now.

>>155542114
>Isaac

My headcanon is that he made some bargain with Chief and Carol, about proving how useless is to try to help humanity, they agree to see if his point was true, so they upload him into a computer and gave him power over their machines, but Isaac, after seeing the records from V protag and Cesar, decide that having a "Dark Raven" going around again will make him lose, so he create the reaper squad earlie (the name could have been diferent at first) to hunt down potencial dominants, until VD happen. VD protag makes him lose his beat, somehow proving that humanity can still fight for the better(?) and Chief and Carol delete him shortly afterwars.

>>155542783
>That's a good point about generations passing faster too.

That something that many writers tend to ignore when making a setting on the past or post-apocalypse. The lower amunts of food, medicine, higher body stress since birth (all the struggle to keep living) and usually constant war, makes the lifespan of each generatios to drop. Remember that in ancietn greece being around 60 was the equivalent to being like 120 now, people died at 30 or 40 those days.

Sorry for wall text.
>>
>>155542114
I doubt Isaac was terminated. Most likely he now resides as part of The Corporation's AI network. Japs speculate that he was what was missing for The Corporation's perfect program. Chief loves humanity and sees the potential it holds, Carol looks upon humanity with cold logic and neutrality, while Isaac despises humanity and believes it's human nature to seek their own destruction. Perhaps by attaining a balance between these different attitudes, they end up creating the perfect program to regenerate humanity and sustain relative peace forever.

The ACV databook puts Angie's age at over 300 years old, and Angie lived at the very end of the 4A era, just before the League fled to space.
>>
>>155547097
Wtf, does that mean all zodiac is that old? I thought they were a recent project.
>>
>>155547301
Nah, they were designated as failures and left to their own devices for hundreds of years. They were part of the Phantasmal Being project, which sought to create the perfect and obedient soldier. The Designed (Zodiac) and the Cultivaters (J) were created as phase one and two of the project, while phase three sought to digitize their minds into A.I. to ensure complete obedience and immortality.

Angie was a failure. The digitization process obliterated her personality and as a result her battle performance suffered. The L.I.V was supposed to her vessel, but due to this setback Angie was relegated to operator position and her AI core was housed in a carrier vehicle instead. The L.I.V we fight is probably just something that The Foundation stuck a UNAC core into.

J was a successful sample, however, and his A.I. core was likely stored in one of the towers.

btw, I like to think, based on Chief's emblem, that originally, the coorporations create enough IAs to fill the Tarot, but Chief is the last survivng one or the leader of those IAs, the other probably are lesser ones that surpervise other, less important, stuff.
>>
>>155547753
What if Chief's personality base is Strayed? After all, Carol refers to him as the strongest. And there is no one stronger.
>>

VD felt like a "budget" title. i think FROM outsources their CGI and that shit is expensive, so makes sense.
>Sorry for wall text.
never apologize
>>
>>155548619
What about if Chief actually fought against Strayed, at that time he was a personalityless-AI, in their last fight (Strayed probably died shortly afterwards or Chief never manage to find him again) for the first time, Chief had a moment of curiosity and ask him "why are you fitghing for?, and Strayed answered with something in the lines of a soldier or mercenary "that's what I do" or "that's my purpose", but he took it like that means to be human or that's the purpose of humanity, that's were his line before the final fight on V
>Perhaps fighting is what human were meant to do
comes from, with some time later and developing his personality, he came to love how humans fight and struggle for the sake of living, we fight to live or we live to fight? and how we justify that eternal struggle.

Note aside, in the tarot the death card usually represents change, self-acceptance or self-sacrifice, that translate to "accepting change whatever it is or sacrificing oneself to create a change in the world but remaining true to yourself."

Would have been fucking cool if the stuff in Forgotten Day was in ACV.

>1v1 against Caesar Venide that gets interrupted by Chief
>times 5
>you and Caesar immediately decide to team up and take out all five Hanged Man ACs
>Chief shows up in a NEXT

Would have been really cool to play out, way better than ending the story on "Well, now what do we do?" "Whatever we want, lol!"
>>
>>155549642
>Chief shows up in a NEXT

I always wondered if the strange machine they fight at the end of Forgotten Day is a full NEXT (great achivement if they manage to destroy it) or it was a downgrade copy like black glint or even another 00-ARETHA since they said contamination was coming from it and the ARETHA creates a huge ton of Kojima more than a normal NEXT.
>>
>>155549996
Maybe it was the Red Exusia in VD, which is kind of a pseudo-NEXT
>>
Also I just had a thought.

If Isaac's village had lived in peace for a time in spite of the pollution, then that means that for most of his life, his home hadn't been polluted, otherwise a village could not live there
that means the spread of the pollution that razed his town was very recent
when Fran and co reach the tower, it's said that the tower appeared to be the source of the pollution itself
That means that the tower has a Kojima reactor and disperses pollution
Now, for what purpose would it generate Kojima pollution, enough that a village somewhere in its vicinity would be swallowed up by it?
Maybe it's because the Corporation became frightened that something would reach the tower?
Something showed up that they had to regard as an actual threat and enemy, and so they raised their guard
And probably not unknowingly, they razed a nearby settlement of humans without consideration or care.
But what was this threat?
There's only one answer.
It was the Dark Raven.
It was because of the Dark Raven that Isaac's village was razed by the Pollution.
>>
>>155550885
It could also be Ceasar, remember that it seems he and his group was exploring the area from some time now, and Carol refer to him and V protag as the "two ravens" since it appears both have a raven in their respective emblems.

IIRC, what Carol did was help his father and him to create Venide, but then they grew out of their control and start expanding, Carol mentions that the City and Vendire are "failed" projects.
>>
>>155551887
No, Carol and Chief offered his father the same deal that they offered Father.

At the time, they were testing the theory of absolute dictatorship, and so they gave funding and power to those they had chosen to be the dictators of their experiments.
While in Father's case, the Resistance and the Dark Raven managed to topple Father's regime and throw the land into anarchy in which individual Migrant groups vied for a piece of land, Caesar Venide managed to unite his group and lead them to victory against the machinations of the Corporation, using their unified might to combat them.
This is why Carol refers to them as "another inconceivable possibility." The Corporation failed to crush Venide, just as it had failed to defeat the Dark Raven.
>>
>>155552380
i they are "testing" differents rulerships to see which one can create peace, which one are they doing on VD, if they are still in control of course.
>>
>>155552182
She just says "you're failed projects" I think. She could mean the protag and his crew, or maybe all of them.

Oh and as for Isaac, his Reaper Squad stuff just felt like he was trying to kill all potential dominants and meanwhile give the entire world weapons to genocide each other with (UNACs). Funnily enough, since the Verdict War pretty mich always ends before a faction falls, his plan to destroy humanity actually led to the first peacetime since humans came back to the surface.
>>
>>155552617
Man, imagine all those failed sorties against special weapons, though, with the Three Forces deploying as many teams there as possible, while the Foundation Man's having a giggle about it all and wondering who to recruit next for his Reaper Squad.
>>
I really want AC6 to continue this plot, it can be another timeskip and this time a upgrade on technology, but Carol and Chief are still in the background doing shit.
>>
>>155552617
> the protag and his crew

I feel bad when I think they go their own way at the end of Forggoten Days, specially for Rosary, after all the shit she goes. She lost the man she loved, one of her sister, her butler and long time friend, her other sister is a bitch, and probably some oldtimers on Man of Honor still hater her when she comes back, and her only true friends left her and probably never saw them again.

In the backstory of VD, it mentions that Venide was going to win over Sirius if Evergreen didnt appeared and join the fight with full force, thing that made Venide to lose pressure on Sirus and allow them to regroup and counterattack again. I feel it was a indirect and by proxy way of Fran coming to rescue her friend, even if both are death at that point.

Absolutely agreed.

If they want to do dystopia, let them do it Layerd Style (a la Hunger Games/Battle Royale/Death Race 2000) where the dystopia is run by a corrupt government that has others fight for their amusement.

The main weaknesses in V/VD's plots is that they create a world so shitty and so broken that there's no clear idea of what's actually going on or who is really in power. 4 and FA had the league as obvious enemies and corruption and that's why the story is more engaging. You have someone to root for or to hate.

For the record, AC2's "difficulty" isn't really that hard, but it has a few moments were it spikes in difficulty. It's story is better than AC3 though. I would recommend 2 if you prefer story more than gameplay and 3 if you prefer gameplay.

Anything. We could go for a little faster gameplay of the classics, probably with low energy drain on earth, so everybody can boost almost indefinitely with quickboost (since is already a thing in universe) but instead of just gliding on air, you can fly like in the classics but flying drains the energy a lot, not allowing permaflight but air combat is present and can win or lose fights even if just for a few seconds.

Or just go full ACFA again with better balance.
>>
>>155597486

The way to do it would be to have low accelleration boosters that reached high top speed, and then high accel quickboost that costed a lot of energy.

Basically making boosting your "sprint" and quickboost your "dodge".

So I've made new stats for boosters, generators, and radiator stars for LR:P and I'd like to get some feedback.

1. Boost power and accel will trade off of eachother, Max accel rates will be the same as the game has currently, but at 14000 boost power. Accel will continue to decrease until 23000 boost power, where it is about 1500 accel, requiring a noticable delay up to top sped..This is to discourage boost hopping and vary movement more.

2. Heat of all kinds will be tied to energy drain, such that energy weapons will do significantly more heat damage against enemies than shell weapons. Frames with high EN defense will also have higher cooling/heat to compensate, and higher cooling generators will drain significantly more.

3. Variance in cooling/heat: The above changes are done to reduce the variance in min-maxing your heat from -7300/+5000 to -2000/+2000. This makes weapon heat a much more important factor in total overheating than booster heat.

Builds that run +2000 heat will gain lots of heat while boosting, but gain also output. Because everything is made equivalent now, the output gain for the extra heat is equivalent to the drain of generators you would need to bring the heat down, or the extra drain of boosters you would need to reduce boost heat for the same speed.

4. Weight, average speed, heat, booster power+accel, energy drain, and cooling are all equivalent. ANY change in one part that affects these stats can now be counteracted by another part (or min-maxed) to achieve roughly same output, average speed, cooling/drain, etc. but at varying levels of accel or power.

1 unit of drain/recovery = 2 units of heat/cooling =10/7 units of weight = 1/14th units of average speed = 1/350 units of boost volume

(boost volume is a multiplier I made to balance accel vs power, ranging from 1 to 1.1, which defines how much extra total average speed (power AND accel) you get in exchange for higher drain, weight, or heat of the boosters.
>>
>>155611121
The basic effect of this would be:

1. Weapon heat would make a much larger difference, as min-maxing potential for heat and energy recovery is reduced. This will add heat as a new dimension to energy vs shell weapon choices, as it will cost you some energy to drain the opponents energy with heat. Shell weapons will have higher impact though

2. Any two radiators, generators, or boosters can be used and still achieve a "baseline" 0 total heat rating by changing the third part to rebalance your mech. This will give you more freedom in picking weight classes of generators and radiators and allow min-maxing without heavy punishments for picking "inferior" parts.

3. Boost hopping will be discouraged by the lower accelleration, lower heat penalty for fast boosters, and higher en caps, requiring you to build up momentum and maintain it while fighting. OB, walking movement.

4. Both heat and energy will be long-term considerations in battle, as energy will take longer to drain but slower to recover and heat will take longer to build but slower to drop.

5. Accel and to speed will be very, very important when deciding how your AC will fight, so two ACs will vary in their movement types a lot more. It will be possible to create ground based ACs that gain momentum and then maintain high speed in long, uninterrupted boost strides and jousts/passing by, however if stunned or overheated they will struggle to rebuild momentum and accel back to top speed. Likewise, twitchy high accel builds will still be able to boost hop and dodge evasively. but will struggle to run away/chase down due to their low top speed.
>>
>>155611121
>>155611686

>trying to discourage boost hopping

Everything else I can see working, but I just can't hate such a tried and true mechanic.
>>
>>155613941
Boost hopping is fun but it DOMINATES movement in PS2 era AC. In LR, there's no long term energy management or positioning, you can boost hop everywhere.

The way this goes, you would only boost hop if you used up all of your EN, had nowhere to hide, and the speed penalty would be heavier. This should also make normal walking more viable as a means to regain EN and twitch dodge.

What if AC6 borrows from Dark Souls invasion mechanic? Like in ACV if a mission was giving you trouble you could have a clan mate join you, but what if calling for co-op help in AC6 set you up for another player to be hired to defend?

For this to work, it would need long missions (if we are not going for open world) and that have special situations to justify the calling of another player, like really massive amounts of enemies or really tough bosses, as for the enemy player, what about having parts were you have to break through a defensive wall of turrets and mooks, and there is where the "surprise" AC show ups.

>>
>>155635484
They could just make it so that certain missions can have enemy players hired as the role a normal NPC AC would fit if the "host" is doing co-op.
For example, if the player is doing a "destroy X thing" mission on his own an enemy NPC AC shows up by default.
If said player was to bring a coop buddy, the NPC + a random enemy player show up.
Just add a queue in the main menu to enter other people's missions as hired enemy AC and ruin their shit.
Missions could be just as long, just design the netplay to get the invader in the session before the mission even starts.
>>
>>155645818
There's a short period (I think it was an hour?) right after a Verdict War ends where all sorties will put you against the online bosses. Coordinated teams can get in about 2-3 boss runs during this time.

I can see this working, as long as you can "queue" up while doing other stuff, like messing around in your garage, or painting your emblem, or maybe even doing singleplayer missions. How many people here wouldn't mind the queues in ACVD if you could fiddle around during the waiting process?

I guess it depends on the boss and how many people know the meta and have builds for it. I've had Motherwill runs that ran the clock down to the last minute before we pulled off a win, while Black Glint can be cheesed almost instantly if you get lucky on grounding his VOB early in the fight.

And they have Armored Core in used condition for $8-10

This is easily half the price of used copies on Ebay. I don't know if there's shipping involved but figured you guys could know as a way to recommend ACFA , since used copies are getting so expensive/rare.

>How many people here wouldn't mind the queues in ACVD if you could fiddle around during the waiting process?
it just shows they weren't thinking of the final product when planning the game.
they probably had gotten the whole multiplayer system for VD all figured out/programmed and THEN realized the flaws with it
but it was already too late and bamco forced them to release it
i don't know i'm not a programmer but there are a couple of questionable things regarding VD's interface that makes me wonder what a few more months of smoothing things out would have meant for the overall gameplay experience
things like, yeah, being able to have all the garage options available while in queue... it simply wasn't thought about in the design process, but it seems deadly obvious after 5 minutes of launching the game that it would be a completely reasonable "feature" to include
the multiplayer people did their thing and the interface people did theirs and neither apparently had the time to talk with one another to gel their systems
gotta admit i love japanese games and i think they are superior in almost every regard to western ones but some of them have this weird disjointedness between their gameplay systems, i mean within a single gam
i think it's specifically a japanese thing where you have these different groups working on different things and lack of communication between those groups paired with small budgets and strict deadlines = glaring quality of life issues but that's just speculation on my part

It's probably a cultural thing, at least partially. And you can at least access the test mode while mercing, so they did think of giving the player something to do while waiting.
I think the main problem is that they didn't take their small playerbase into account. Considering how ded the game is now, finding a match in cq takes an unreasonably long amount of time that was probably not anticipated by the devs.

I don't think you're going to be finding quite anything like AC but here are some suggestions in my experience

Gundam games (this is a no-brainer for people, there's all kinds of shit you can try, from tacticool Zeonic Front to SRPGs to Musou to Extreme Boost)
Front Mission (mostly srpg, Evolved is a third person and kinda the black sheep of the series)
Lost Planet 2 has some pretty nice mech action
Strike Suit Zero (transforman bullshit, the actual mecha portion is a limited duration powerup that you charge by killing stuff)

That's about all I can remember right now without including obvious shit like MechWarrior or Heavy Gear. Maybe Hawken but I think that game is dead in terms of player retention, so you'll probably have to git gud fast. I'll get back to you if I can remember more relevant suggestions, there's some indie shit on steam too but I doubt they're out of early access.

>>155714970
>without the the retarded supertech that makes ACs strong

Oh I neglected to mention that there's also the SRW series and Another Century's Episode (it's by From)

They're both games where they crossover a bunch of shit from various mecha, and you don't really need to understand nip to enjoy the core gameplay of either but it would be really helpful. You'd get to read all the quirks and shit between the crossover characters. For SRW if you have trouble with a skill or button name, just look up a guide somewhere and try to memorize the characters. It's what I did anyways.

So, still messing with ACLR:P stats and I notice something.

Shell Defense Reduction values are:
Defense/5300 + .3777

En Defense Reduction values are...
Defense/5300 + .3888

I have no idea why from would code a literally 1% difference between the two in, but apparently it's there. Energy weapons do a whopping 1% more damage than Shell. Maybe because the optional part for higher EN damage only costs 1 slot? Who knows, but seems odd.

Rather than rebalance all the weapons to reflect this, I'm just going to bump EN defense across the board by 1% to compensate for the difference in base variables
>>
>>155717093
On second thought, that 1% difference actually equates to 58.8 points of defense, so that's more significant than I realized, huh.
>>
>>155717353
>>155717093
Also on second, second thought, that's 1% LESS damage they do (since it's a higher reduction value). So EN def. will drop by that amount. It's too early in the morning for me to do that much math

>>
so I'm planning to get into Verdict Day finally, is there anything I should know going in that ISN'T in the OP?
>>
>>155728192
I'm not sure what's in the OP nowadays.

There's 3 defenses, if your defense is higher than the attack of whatever is hitting you you take a lot less damage. Same for enemies. Walljumps are your friend. Ready-position is only worth it on tanks, and in some cases quads or Heavy Bipeds. The exception to this is bringing a sniper cannon that you purge once you engage. Shields are good. Melee is very viable. If you hold down the High Boost button you can kick. Scan mode replaces radar and makes you recover energy faster, because your weapons and FCS use no energy while you're not in combat mode. You should remap the controls ASAP. You should send a friend request to UristMcGamer, he's a bit of a faggot but he'll help you out with the basics

The 5th gen designs used to look so gross to me, but I've grown to adore them as of late. I'm not sure what draws me to them. I've grown to associate 5th gen designs with strife and struggle, and they always look like an engineer was hard-pressed under missile fire with a gun literally to his head to make a weapon of war, and these monsters are what came out of his mind. They don't really feel like they were made by calm engineers who had pleasant facilities like in 4/A or by Shoji like in 1-LR. Just these fucked up rapid-response "We need to KILL THOSE GUYS" beasts.

front mission 3 is like 6 bucks i think on PSN store and it goes on sale regularly (whenever square has a sale basically) if you're that cheap i was and got it for $3
it's a fantastic game, instant classic for sure. maybe was overlooked a bit cause it came out late in the playstation's lifespan but it's fucking great.
last time i tried to emulate it though i got a freezing glitch which is apparently not uncommon, so it's better to just fork out the cash
fuck maybe i'll play it today it's a good comfy sunday game.
i would also recommend FM4, it's better in a lot of ways but doesn't feel as "epic" as FM3 which constructed its world pretty thoroughly. it's a PS2 game though and i don't emulate those.
on that note, i've heard FM5 is also an amazing game but it's not available (in english) outside of emulation (i've not played it, yet)
also kinda out there but vanquish is an amazing console 3rd person shooter game (i know! it can happen!) that has this fast, FA-style boosting
you play as a man in a powered suit but you're so powerful it feels like a mecha game. all the enemies are mechs, at least, and there are some cool bosses. and it's shinji mikami so you know it's good.

V/VD is based on Chromehounds. The Verdict War is just a rehashed Neroimus War, and so is the team system, territories, even the Operator role. It might just be nostalgia but Chromehounds accomplished what VD tried to do and did a much better job of it. It's a shame the series is basically dead now. The general theme is that with LR, you shouldn't go on the missions until you beat most of the VR arena. Even if that means you have to fight scrubs over and over again to build up money.
>>
Today I just realized that aside from the flamethrower, hand missile, and hand rockets, there is both a TE and Shell variation of every class of weapon in ACLR.

Rifle, Laser Rifle
Linear Rifle, Railgun
Sniper Rifle, EN Sniper Rifle
MG, EN MG
Handgun, Pulse Gun,
Bazooka, Hi Laser Rifle
Shotgun, EN Shotgun,
Grenade Rifle, Plasma Gun
>>
>>155787603
It's been that way for most weapons in most AC games I believe. VD is especially weird about it. There's 3 variants of every basic weapon, but they all behave a bit differently.

Rifle - Battle Rifle - Laser Rifle
Gatling - Heat Machinegun - Pulse Machinegun
Shotgun - Heat Howitzer - Pulse Gun
Murakumo - Heat Pile - Laser Blade

There's also turret variants for each damage type plus a missile variant, and of course 3 shield types. I guess Target Guns, Snipers, and ready weapons don't really follow the pattern though
>>
>>155789719
Prior to Nexus/LR that wasn't exactly the case. I think it was 3 that really started even adding things like EN shotguns and such.
>>
>>155789719
Wakakusa are the TE sniper rifles. There's no CE equivalent though.
>>
>>155791393
Closest you get to a CE sniper is a Cercis or a Lotus. Though, just about any battle rifle can work, if your aim is good enough. The shells move slow as fuck, but lose virtually zero damage over distance.
>>
>>155792701
The main difference is that Wakakusa and sniper rifles will hit above any KE defense. There's no high velocity CE weapon that can hit above high CE defense.

Damage lose due to distance means almost nothing in VD, it's all about muzzle velocity. CE weapons might not lose damage over distance, but they can't hit anything of decent speed past 200m.

Man, I just wish it wasn't so preachy. I know that's a bit too much to ask for nowadays, but we already have a plethora of that kind of stuff. It's not even like I thought it was that bad, just disappointing. The setting and technology was really cool, so I wish they would have expanded on it, and Machine Calibers were also pretty interesting despite the CGI and semi-retarded chibi-ish design.

Alternatively I wouldn't have minded it being preachy if it were at least two cours, because it would have had more time to develop rather than being hamfisted into the plot within six episodes.

but yeah you're right too it still had some damn fine cinnamon in there

I just Bought Armored Core 2, I really like how this game looks and the world (This is my second AC with 4A being my first.) It's pretty hard to control but I think I am getting the hang of things but I am thinking about getting AC3 for my birthday, is AC3 easier to control?
>>
Do you guys still holds your weekend AC events? Last time I came it didn't seem like there was anything going on.
>>
>>155803993
I ONLY pick distribution center recon from a new savefile. It's a challenge to myself.

It's actually quite possible to beat on a default AC. The trick is to hide behind the buildings and pop out spamming dual single shot missiles. Fire them right after he jumps, and eventually his legs will break. Then you can run circles around him back and forth between cover spamming rifle shots.

You can use the default starting money to upgrade your main rifle, boosters, and a few other things plus tuning to actually stand a good chance. Those 40 count single missiles pack a ton of damage if you can hit reliably.
>>
>>155855528
Just get the Large missile arms and use the 4 lock on version of it and make sure all of them land on him and he'll explode.
>>
>>155853793
Nexus is the one where they introduce analog controls. AC2 to Silent Line uses the PS1 control scheme
>>
>>155854510
We do but it seems like everyone is busy doing things right now. work, school, etc.
>>
>>155853793
>is AC3 easier to control?
No it isn't, it has the same control scheme. Thing is, the control scheme is a holdover from AC1 on the PS1, which didn't start out with dual analog sticks, so the early AC series had to come up with an unconventional control scheme that worked pretty well if awkward at first. AC2 through Silent Line used that control scheme probably for the sake of players who took the time to become skilled with the old setup.
The control scheme is a bit wonky, especially if you're used to DA sticks, but I'd recommend getting AC3 anyway, it's my favorite in the series. By the time you finish up AC2 you should be used to the controls enough to really enjoy it.

80% of online builds were permaflight latona/lahire builds that would spam rifles until they got you to chase them, then they would whip out sapla and spam fire while you were running at them (since phantom hits meant sapla would hit ~80% of the time if the opponent was running toward you). Sometimes they would swap a rifle for the lightweight omer laser rifles, but the main point was 2 basic guns + 2 purge-happy saplas. Sometimes you would see white glint variants of the same deal. This is, objectively, probably the best build in the game you can run given that it abuses the heavy lag/ping time of ACFA and generally requires the least effort for the greatest payoff.

Then 10% were sobrero/lahire bladers that min-maxed for total speed so that their blading distance was so long and so fast that they could OB blade you from literally across the map without you seeing them on your screen. Again, lag abuse. They would chip away 5k AP at a time with each blade hit (sometimes getting a direct hit for a lot more) until you died.

The other 10% were railgun builds that would only play on the large maps, and OB away every time you got close, shooting with the railguns from outside your lock on range. This was lag abuse in the sense that the only weapons that could do damage at that range WERE railguns because everything else (including snipers) had 50% lower muzzle velocity. These builds also tended to spam missiles in mid-close range, especially spread missiles, to force you to keep dodging while they ran away.

The dual rifles were mostly used to maintain an AP lead. Sometimes you'll see a latona that would stack AP for that purpose but it was rare.

Latona, Lahire, and white glint were the only frame parts that were ever realized used.
>>
>>155856003
I never found that to be a reliable tactic, it's way too easy for them to just crash into the ground and then you're out of ammo.
>>
>>155856902
But it works.
>>
>>155856425
And then there was a small group of players running a combination of close combat weapons on a lightweight.
>>
>>155856425
Oh. And some weapons arms were dumb too, like the machine gun ones having stupid amounts of mobility. And the stun weapon (most often a Sniper Cannon) + Raiden arms combo. Stun someone, then blast their face with the Bazooka for 10k+. These arms also had bonkers mobility so they could fire at angles where other weapons couldn't, like almost right above someone.
And there was PA Bombers in earlier patches, until they nerfed the recovery time to hell.
>>
>>155856425
>white glint
wasnt WG a bad frame?
>>
>>155847191
I have a couple.
>>
>>155856425
However, to elaborate, there were a lot of other gimmicky builds out there that you would see, some of which were quite powerful.

OB jousting with large/Kojima missile was a common tactic, as well as Assault Armor bombers that would spam VTF missiles and assault armor.

I remember plasma/missile spamming builds that were designed to tank the framerate so low that other players couldn't dodge the missiles.

Basically, FA pvp comes down to 3 principles:
1. You can only hit your enemy when they are moving toward you, not moving at all, or are moving much slower than your weapon.

2. Any weapon gets a velocity boost if you fire it while moving forward (railgun/missile/rifle speed boosting was a major tactic)

3. As long as you constantly change direction, you can't be hit due to ping. This is why permaflight is important, you can change direction a lot more often and in different ways than if you have to constantly return back to the ground to recharge.

WG legs and core are some of the best parts in FA. Head and arms were sort of bad. The core had the problem of not allowing shoulder parts though, so it wasn't used that often.

I think it's really interesting to acknowledge that AC2 sold 700,000 copies, but the gaming industry has tripled in size since, which would equate to 2,100,000 copies today to match the same success.

Realistically, the UN would call a vote on them being considered weapons of mass destruction (especially the Kojima ones) and would deploy a lockdown of trade routes on the sea from wherever they were, to keep them from invading. Then that would probably necessitate dropping a MIRV nuke on their location, which would easily destroy the answerer in a single shot. Without that, the rest could be taken down with conventional bombardment from multiple directions.

Nothing in armored core is handed to you. Winning is entirely the product of your own understanding and practice, there's no leveling up, you usually have access to everything you need to beat the game right away. There's no artificial difficulty or arbitrary barriers you can't cross.

When you win, you feel like it's entirely the product of your own doing.

Those two NEXTS are a pretty big problem. If they have the ability to restock and rearm then I'm pretty sure it's a stomp. I don't know about the whole world but those two can certainly do damage just by existing and flying over places.

Honestly though we're missing a lot of official information, like what kind of magic bullshit material NEXT-grade armor is made of (if any, but it seems likely) and the technologies that drive NEXT-grade weaponry. These seem like gameplay mechanics but I'm pretty sure it's stated as an actual thing in 4A. There's also the question about their operation time, like if KP reactors are infinite in the sense that that supply power for an infinite amount of time like GN drives, or if it's just refueled in between every mission.

Oh well, I'll dwell more on this hypothetical bullshit tomorrow.

There are definitely ways to do anime-style mech combat without making it weaboo-gundam fast. Aldnoah Zero, Knights of Cydonia, Evangelion, and even ZoE are all examples of this.

I would rather see them stick with something about the same speed as VD, but much smoother with the skating/gliding and floating aspects of the PS2 gen. VD is way too twitchy/clunky.

I'd like to see them replace boost hopping with grappling, so you could hang onto buildings and such, boosting from wall to wall instead of jumping. That would make 3D movement more

That would make melee combat a lot more interesting. Especially if you could grapple/blade/kick other players. ACVD is sort of just twitchy flash movements then throwing out a hurtbox, there's no real sensation that ACs are hitting or connecting with eachother.
>>
>>155878198
I would assume the NEXTs can't resupply. One thing from most AC games is that the ACs are short-term solutions meant to sweep up enemies fast. They are meant to be customized and rapidly deploy.

I can't imagine White Glint crossing the pacific on its own. Plus, the AMS system probably isn't meant to be used for 1+ hours.

>>155879027
No, I meant resupply in the context of that one hypothetical scenario. Like if White Glint/ARETHA runs out of ammo on their purge crusade throughout North America. The Answerer doesn't seem like it would have production capabilities sufficient enough for 10 meter tall genocide machines so I was curious how they would restock their weaponry. The mental image of White Glint fighting against 21st century forces only being able to use Assault Armor or the AC's physical body itself is hilarious to me.

And yeah I don't think NEXTS are meant to cross ocean. Maybe if the Companies had another decade or so, NEXTS would be self sufficient machines fully capable of traversing the world at retardedly high speeds. Who knows, the gap in technology shown between 4 & For Answer was huge.

It's fun to think about this stuff again, I used to be obsessed with the technical details of AC games along with hypothetical crossovers years back on this fan forum. Probably a bad thing since I'm gonna be in bed reminiscing of the good ol days.

VOB m8, also, ACs usually have a way to be transported to the battlefield, but NEXT arent show using that, the only time was when you attack desert wolf on 4 that is being carried on a truck, but even reinforcement NEXT usally reach the place by OB from the horizon.

is AC4 1.6 regulation considered to be balanced for singleplayer?

The PA regen is so damn big you can't get past it without machineguns and NEXTs take way too long to die, especially stuff like the 1v4 mission on hard mode and Critique+White Glint fight

>hit him with a laser rifle
>290 damage
How do you even beat him with some weapons without running out of ammo?
>>
>>155891515
Pick the 1 life, low damage received one, learn all the missions and counterpick them to hell. I think it's the fastest one without high risk.
If you're feeling nice, try the 10x damage dealt 5x damage received, it's pretty fun.
>>
There's one thing about ACFA that always bothers me when I think about because it's cannon but is also a contradiction to the games rules. - I'm referring to the Mission where Stayed is attacked by 5 NEXTs and manage to successfully defeat them all.

There are some things I would like to know;

- The average time a 1v1 battle lasts in the AC
- The amount of ammo takken into battle
- Using the average time and amount of weaponry as a based, how many seconds or minutes does Strayed have to take down each NEXTs
- Considering Strayed did not know he was being ambushed, what would have been the most logical part setup to take on that mission

Strayed is also the player and I'm pretty sure your first time playing the mission you did not know what was planned for you when you got there and if this was a first play on Hard I'm sure you would most likely been defeated. The player also "cheats" in this situation by knowing what's to come after being defeated once and adjusting their part setup for a 1v5 mech battle.

So how is this even possible for Strayed to accomplish without retreating and returning to the battle with the right set up?

Was the emergency anime hero button pressed?

I understand your point, my usual set up was a rifle, a machine gun, railgun and grenades. If we go for canon, probably Oldking was good enough to help yp weak them to some degree, and Strayed being a badass was also using blades (infinite ammo) and probably a mix of blade (goodbye PA) and then hitting with something hard was his way to win, who knows even using a normal set up, he could try to force them on a 1vs1 fights
>>
>>155901957
Well Strayed is the strongest pilot to have ever existed, because he destroyed the world after that fight. With that in mind I don't think it's such a hard thing to imagine.
>>
>>155250961
The correct answer is Otogi 2.
>>
>>155903223
>>155903365
I don't know. Like . . . what I'm trying to say is, using science, the feats and limitations of those ACs, plus ACs don't have any magical hidden powers when the pilot is near death like Gundams, Strayed simply defeated them with raw skill that seems impossible, and he wasn't prepare to go into battle against 5 ACs but somehow he manage to defeat them all. And those five failed to strategically take him out base on his weapons, his frame, parts, dodging/flying/landing, etc.

If you were to put any of us against 5 players we've be taken out quickly because of the rules set by the game. Strayed uses those same rules set by the game. Crazy.
>>
>>155905634
That's why I think that Oldking play a bigger role than we used to think he did, and Strayed probably did something like we used to do, baiting the enemy to circle with him on the outer walls and create a 1vs1 situation.

>operation time
Well, NEXTs are self sufficient in that they don't have a limited operation time. Pretty sure Kojima reactors can run for what might as well be forever for the purpose we're looking at. And they can get places pretty quickly considering how they completely shred the sound barrier (twice) instantly when QBing and that they can apparently supercruise if the speed values ingame are correct. We also never see them get deployed, unlike other gens of ACs. They just sorta take off and arrive. The only real problem would be ammo and damage sustained, but PA makes NEXTs invincible against most things contemporary military could throw at an object moving that fast and changing course that rapidly. And if the AC has a blade you might as well abandon all hope if you're not sitting in a fighter jet or sniping at it from a longass distance with cutting-edge weaponry. ICBMs are probably too cumbersome, and nuking in general woud come at the cost of likely irradiating your own soil even further.
What I wanna know is how they would handle stealth tech and electronic warfare. ECM is ingame and doesn't affect lockon, just radar, which is mostly an inconvenience, especially considering how fast the system recovers. That is, unless there happens to be a B2 that your radar can't detect and that's outside visual range above you, and currently in the process of dropping a very big bomb on your head.

Oh. And people who are caught in a Kojima energy blast without shielding probably die instantly. I'm assuming that NEXTs themselves use some kind of lmaohax super shielding, otherwise they couldn't even be piloted.

>>
>>155863602
There's a lot of unknowns with NEXTS but realistically, the ACs would come out on top. There's nothing else to go by except for game mechanics, and there's no telling what type of supermaterial they use for the NEXT weapons and armor like what >>155878198 said. A single 01-HITMAN bullet instantly destroys a tank (like, fucking totally kaput). Again, you could cite it as game mechanics, but there's really nothing else to go by unless someone can read that art book and find something that says otherwise.

In the games, NEXTS are represented as the key force that made the National Dismantlement War possible. Obviously, they were likely supported by the corporation's conventional forces comprised of standard military and Ravens in Normals, but it seems like NEXTS are the ones who were able to make victory a reality, especially with how much fanfare they get. Those weren't even FA-era NEXTS like Anatolia Merc's WG, either. 00 ARETHA might as well be a slightly gimped FA-era NEXT by the way it moves too, but I don't think it could fly or hover as long. Good luck trying to hit one of them with our level of tracking, too. Yeah, we could hit jets going 950 mp/h in a linear fashion, but not something that can change vectors three times a second.

I don't know about the Answerer though. IIRC from the guys on spacebattles (I know it's a wanksite but they're the only ones who give a shit about this type of thing to warrant them to do calcs), any long range bombardment was impossible because of its massive Primal Armor shielding, so unless a company can reverse engineer AC4 laser blades and strap them on fighter jets like a GAU-8 on an A-10, consider it a mobile Chernobyl-maker on a mixture of steroids and crack amplified by 11.

tl;dr there's not much info to go around besides pure conjecture, speculation and very rough calculations so let's just go by what we've observed in the games, call it a day and give the ACs a win before we go full versusbattles
>>
>>155905634
That's the point. After this battle, with no one to back him up anymore, he goes on to literally genocide pretty much all of mankind. He destroys every NEXT, every corporation, every cradle, every Arms Fort thrown at him. In terms of Canon, Strayed is the ultimate example of a Dominant, possibly rivaled by LR protag. But Strayed's machine is technologically superior to the point where the only thing really limiting performance canonically is your AMS aptitude, I.e. Skill at maneuvering the damn robot.

It's a tough call, but as much as I prefer the PS2-era of games I'd have to say the AALIYA head may very well be my favorite part, for aesthetic reasons. While the rest of my frame and weapons are (mostly) used with function first aesthetics second, for me the head was always the "face" of the AC, and the part I always picked based on aesthetics more than function. While my favorite head for a long time was the BEE/HORNET from the PS2 hames and was happy they revived it with the CHROMEYE in V/VD, as I mentioned in >>155781051, the AALIYAH edges it out as my favorite part, I absolutely loved the pseudo-zeonic-eye it pulled off.

do you think strayed and kasumi fugged

Jokes aside (do we even have concrete confirmation about Strayed's gender?) I wish there was more information regarding the extent of the relationship/history between the two besides the few breadcrumbs we already know, like her being an Original back in AC4 and she acts as your senior, viewing Strayed as a newbie rising up the chain. At least in 4, Emil narrates on how they got the Merc through Fiona. Overall I thought the "freshman/senior" operator dynamic was a nice take so that's why I would have wanted more. Her character was still pretty good though.
>>
>>155912084
Not the generators, but the AMS stress, ammo count, and the longevity of the boosters before they start failing.

I figure if you take down answer via ICBM then all the other ACs will eventually need repairs or ammo supply, or simply drive their pilots insane after a few days.

The greatest damage that a NEXT can do has nothing to do with its weapons, but entirely with the Kojima contamination.
>>
>>155891724
Crossing the pacific using VOB would take between 4 and 6 hours. This is probably longer than the total activation time for a NEXT throughout the entire duration of AC4 or ACFA.

>>155891724
I don't think you need maps with walls or platforms to do that, the idea would be that combat would change depending on how the map looked. Flat open maps would rely mostly on the sort of smooth boost skating from the PS2 era, but when we have buildings involved, we get the more jumping/3D movement of ACVD.

>>155901957
If we're going by canon, Strayed s an old rayleonard mech. Assault Armor, a blade, and a machine gune is MORE than enough weaponary to take down 5 NEXTS.

I imagine it where the 5 Mechs OB at him, so he intercepts one, blades it to death in the air, then returns just as Oldking is starting to come under fire and PA bombs them from behind. Machine guns make quick work of at least one mech (with PA gone, motorcobra can take down a lightweight AC in ~30 seconds or so, and has tons of ammo). Now it's 2v3.

Oldking dies, Strayed blades another AC, it's 1v2 and from that point on it's a forgone conclusion that strayed would win.

We tend to look at the fight as a 5v1 as a player, but in reality it's a 4v2, then a 3v2, then a 2v1 then a 1v1.

>Plus, the AMS system probably isn't meant to be used for 1+ hours
While I agree that the AMS system might be stressful for sustained periods of time, I highly doubt it would be that short a frame across every pilot. It would probably depend on the person. There's a few examples in the game that state outright that some LYNX can only operate for a short amount of time due to the stress involved, but I'm pretty sure people like Anatolia's Merc could squeeze in hours of combat operation time to at least half of that of a modern jet pilot's maximum: say, five to six hours as his limit, probably? Not like it matters though, considering top-ranked LYNX like him are expected by the companies to annihilate entire bases within five minutes at most.

As long as your AC doesn't feel off balance while you're moving, the stabilizers don't really matter. If you have a ton of off centered weight, you'll notice your AC turns faster/slower on certain directions and will be a bit clunky and hard to control, in which case you need to pay attention to stabilizers to even everything out.

It doesn't seem to matter most of the time though, just go for aesthetics.

Total activation time for a next in 4 or FA: 6 hours (with resupply, breaks, and repair)

Long term non stop flight needed to cross pacific: 4-6 hours

There is no evidence that Nexts can handle more than an hour of combat at once. Even VOB and transport never seems to last long, VOB malfunctions ~75% of the time anyway.
>>
>>155945681
Weight balance matters, stabilizers just affect weight balance. Having more weight on one side (left/right front/back) boosts speed in that direction, and lowers it in the opposite direction.

+10 is the max effect you'll get, and it's really noticable. If you weigh +10 on left side, then you can expect a nearly 200kph difference between left and right in terms of speed.

Lots of front-loading weight is a great way to get good backpeddaling speed. Lots of rear weight is a great way to get great normal boosting speed. Left/right is more tactical, since you have to circle in only one direction the whole map to take advantage of it.

Definitely took the game down a few points. Like on a scale of 1-100, that alone took off like 10 points.

I swear AC2AA nineball is a cheating mother fucker.

>>
>>155958352
Wait, what? I understood yours, did you see my logic there? I was more or less agreeing with you on that part about activation time, unless you meant to reply to someone else.

>There is no evidence that Nexts can handle more than an hour of combat at once

There's also no evidence against it otherwise, just limiting factors like ammunition for ranged weapons as well as a pilot's stress, and the fact that battles are so fast that they're settled in minutes, so there isn't a decent consensus to reach anywhere. There isn't enough information or guidelines, so we just end up speculating all day, not that it's inherently a bad thing, but that's what it is at the end of it: conjecture.

I did concur with you on the AMS, however. It is probably incredibly stressful having every one of your nerves being connected with a machine magnitudes larger than yourself. What I didn't agree with was your claim of a maximum operating time being the same for every LYNX. Like I said, there's people like Hari, who could probably only last a short amount of time in a heated fight due to his AMS trait, despite his alleged considerable skill. Inversely, there are people with great AMS compatibility, who could possibly last a few hours due to how they're acquainted with the system, and their level of control. Again, we don't know for sure because there's such a lack of concrete lore.

Hol' up my friend I gotta make a new post because of the word limit and I don't want to be cut half-way.

Continued

The reason I'm being ambivalent, or at least neutral to the subject, is that the idea of combat vehicles as seemingly expensive and powerful as NEXTS having such a limited combat time of a single hour seems asinine to me, especially considering the massive variation in LYNX mental aptitude and part difference. Of course, NEXTS are so powerful and fast that they can finish special operations in minutes, so I suppose it doesn't really matter since there is no precedent of a mission lasting over ten minutes without the player deliberately holding back/doing nothing. The longest mission I personally recall doing was Occupation of Arteria Carpals, clocked at around 7 minutes.

About the VOBs, it's possible that the actual arrival and departure sequence was longer than what was shown through you initially entering a mission. So, by the time a mission starts, you've expended 3/4 of your remaining VOB fuel on the way there. Once again, pure speculation, like mostly everything else discussed in this particular thread.

Hope you don't take my post the wrong way, I actually argued with a guy on an /acg/ a few months after VD released about the abilities of NEXTS and he got so heated up that we traded PSN names to fight each other, it was kind of hilarious.

Appreciate it! I just finished the game and now I'm gonna redo the campaign for other endings. I honestly wish that I played this game back when it was still moderately populated. But that was in a dark time where I wasn't into mecha as much as I am now.

WHOA there Charles dickens. I didn't come here to read a novel.

Get V and Verdict Day if you still need your robutt fix. The two games aren't as bad as people say it is. Admittedly, V is pretty lacking but I'd still pick it up or at least watch a walkthrough of the campaign to get the experience, even if the game is a hundred years prior to Verdict Day. There's also UNACs which are like computer buddies and you can customize their AI behavior pretty extensively.

And if 4A is your first or second AC then don't forget to try the older games for more mecha.

>Charles dickens
Appreciate it m8. That honestly isn't that much though, the first few pages of modern game "manuals" are probably longer.

I ordered Armored core 5 and verdict day a few days ago and they should be coming in the mail. Question for you though which older armored core game do you think i should play next while I wait in the mean time? Lurking here the thread seems to be arrmored core 2. My computer is a piece of shit but it looks like an old game so maybe I can emulate.

Do what the other guys in the thread do and set up the turn buttons to the analog sticks. If you're used to boosting in 4/4A, just reconfigure the boost button to where it was on your original controller on there.

One of the options at Nerves Concord should be system. It's in there.
That said, I don't know if it'll give you the option if the game doesn't think there's a memory card.

Nah nigga don't remove me, I'm actually legit curious on her origins. I'm not too invested in waifus in games. If I wanted shipping bullshit I'd just hop on the latest Macross.

Well if the memory card file or whatever the hell it was is fucked up on your profile, you could just use the save states. It's in the drop-down menu on the left of PCSX2.

>155970550
Enjoy. Some people call it broken if you can save that fast and that you don't get the genuine experience or something along the lines.
>>
>>155930536
I don't remember anything about AMS stress limiting operation time anywhere. And booster longevity is a long-term concern I'm pretty sure.
The reason ammo is a problem is that a NEXT that's outta juice might have trouble defending itself to keep spreading Kojima. Also, I'm still wondering whether getting within combat distance of an active NEXT is possible without shielding. In that one mission in the plant in FA, you were taking constant damage as soon as you enter the vicinity of a Kojima Power Facility, underground no less. As in, your mech was literally corroding around you.
>>
>>155970834
Hey man fuck those people this shit is useful. Im gonna have to put this on my main computer and not this old laptop im using, its still pretty good for a game as old as this.
>>
>>155945681
There's also drift turning. QB on the ground, hold camera to one side and don't normal boost. Your AC will skid and drift. Hard to use in real battles, but leaves you less vulnerable than Quick Turn. You need to be on the ground though, so it's really more of a gimmick and something that constantly screws up my circle strafes in CQ builds. Useful to learn for 5th Gen tho
>>
>>155958352
>no evidence NEXTs can handle more than an hour of combat at once
There's also no evidence to the contrary. The only reason NEXTs get trashed so quickly in the game is because everything else also has weapons of similar strength, which is something we distinctly lack. And crossing an ocean or reaching something on water simply by OB happens multiple times during the game. For example, literally every NEXT on Carpals.
>>
>>155971916
>Also, I'm still wondering whether getting within combat distance of an active NEXT is possible without shielding

Probably not. A normal human probably starts getting intense radiation burns some distance away while anything close to it, like you said, would probably die on the spot.

NEXTS. Gotta love 'em. They destroy the environment and are the biggest occupational hazard for simple regular joes working for the companies just trying to scrap out a living, but damn it, they get the jobs done fast.

My main nigga the only thing I can't comprehend is why those FUCKING ASSHOLES won't make a new one. It would honestly probably push me to get a 3DS or Wii U if one were to come out, ESPECIALLY with enhanced online.
>>
>>155972954
Well then, I'm fairly certain we would be fucked even if the NEXT didn't have any weapons it could just close in on things at Mach 2 and they die.
>>
>>155973261
Now I wanna replay it but my DS is almost broken by now
>>
>>155973263
Pretty much. I might be over exaggerating the radiation burns but the companies were really pissy over using Primal Armor to prevent contamination in the first one, despite some of the large empty areas, like Anatolia's border. That's pretty much what I'm basing my stuff off of. Then the LYNX War happens and most of the earth gets turned to desert as a result.
>>
>>155962824
The best hint we have is the AMS and pilots, about how long they can remain active.
As you said, in-game Hari's bio mention that he cant fight for much time, but has a great control on its NEXT on that short time. Desert Wolf on 4, says that he suffer from great stress from the AMS, and because of that his NEXT generate more Kojima than usual and need long rest periods from fights.

>>155964102
The reason of why is KC x AC seem to be a popular crossover is a mystery for me, and I really would like to know why the nips cross them, I dont see any relationship with the 2.

>>
>>155976603
Yup, pretty much what we've been tryin' to say. Those are our closest signs to AMS hints.

Also I think it's because Miyazaki said something years ago about how he would be interested to do a crossover of AC and KC, or something like that. Fucking weird, ain't it? Part of me wants to admit that I wouldn't mind something like that purely because we need more Armored Core, but I don't know about a pairing like that because like I said, I don't know anything about KC besides that they're...anthropomorphized WW2 ships?
