There's nothing wrong with his damage. The nerf was perfectly warranted, the only problem is that it should've been turned when the masteries were changed, rather than letting azir players rely on the burst-harass from thunderlords to stay in lane for so long and letting them think that it was a vital part of his kit.

Azir is perfectly playable, he's just supposed to suck ass early-on because he's exactly what you just said, an AP marksman. He scales infinitely into late game. The only problem that it felt like such a morbid gutting is because every other mid-laner is all about early burst, because that's the meta right now. "Kill the guy in your lane and then level his turret for the 600+ gold." I'd be more bitter about the removal of his W's turret-bomb ability from a few patches ago, because it would've at least kept Azir relevant in the game's current state.

Holy shit, are you a clone of me? Thunderlords was the primary reason he was strong for his early-game and made up for the practically negative damage he had going for him. (Once it proc'd thats what did all of the actual damage).

Toss in the fact that it was easy to actually proc (Q and two autos) and you've got a really strong early game when in reality he should have been (and was conceived as) a hyper carry, start with an awful early game end as a god-tier late game akin to Jax and Vayne.

This entire season has been fucked up from front to back because of that. I think that's the point where I truly understood that Riot has no fucking clue as to what they're doing with the game. They have all this money and still only develop with a reactive attitude, as if balancing can only be done by one guy and there's no conceivable way of catching burps in the pipeline before they go live (HERE'S LOOKING AT YOU, FUCKING JUGGERNAUT SKARNER.)

So many champions were allowed to spiral out of control because of Thunderlord's, because of Deathfire Touch, and because of Grasp. Maybe they thought "this will make everyone overpowered, and therefore no one will be," but all it did was make every single lane matchup a complete and utter chore because now, no matter who you're playing against, you have to deal with some poorly balanced bullshit that's no fun whatsoever to play against, even when you're winning.

Its the keystone masteries that have been literally all of the problems of this season. Thunderlords, Grasp, Warlords, it doesn't matter. All of them were broken at one point or another and all of them have caused balance issues like fucking crazy.

I played Azir religiously ever since he was released in S4. He's pretty much the only fucking champ I enjoyed playing in this trashheap of a game.
I'm not mad about the damage nerf, I agree that it was completely warranted, I just feel that it's something that could've been gradually tuned when the mastery changes first hit, because that was the obvious tipping point for him. Azir was nearly unplayable in solo queue until Thunderlord's made it so that you couldn't just auto-attack him out of lane at level 1. I'm still mad that Riot just went directly after his damage, the one thing he really has a grip on left after the W and ult changes, instead of at least trying to soften the blow by increasing the early-game cooldown on his Q, or increasing the mana cost on his E so that it couldn't repeatedly be used as a "get out of ganks free" card.

I agree cooldowns and mana should have been the primary target after the last set of nerfs but until then his damage is what they took as the alternate nerfing path to compensate

Essentially if even to do remotely well now you NEED Thunderlords on him So much for them wanting us to have different experiences am I right?

But if you play him religiously as I do then you should know they left his late-game intact. The best part about him. If anything else they should have removed the ability to dash with his soldiers as they traveled. Hell, there's tons of ways they could have handled this better but until Riot does anything I guess I just have to make due with October 2015 Azir where he was balanced but mildly underpowered until thunderlords come out in the pre-season.

Doesn't help that the enemy team always has support mains, and I literally get the most sub-optimal support (1 x Zilean, 2 x Brand) on an autifilled mid laner.

It helps when you come around instead of getting scuttler, and then a few camps on the other side of the jungle, and then the other half of your jungle. God knows I can't hold fuckers underneath my tower forever for you to go jerk off and have tea in the jungle. If you aren't 6 yet that might be one thing, but don't be the fucker clearing raptors while mid is literally in the most perfect gankable spot possible.

Dealing with heimer as pantheon? Even dodging his skill shots he can retreat to turrets and regen with passive or if I dive turrets I die anyway because they do stupid damage ending in him dieing and me shortly after.
