Is there a way to start building a grid on one side and the other side simultaneously places the block at the same orientation opposite of the original placed blocked? I'm talking about Space Engineers.

Designing small ships are tedious.

Well in space there is no gravity and air no drag and hence no ballistics, boolit will go on flying indefinitely

If boolit is small block going fast, when it enters gravitational pull of something, it will start orbiting it until its orbit degrades and it burns up in atmosphere

So doing proper ballistics in spess game would be tricky indeed, but hacking it so gravity suddenly switches on simple parabolic arcs for boolits would be simple

Why can't time just be backwards?

>>
>>155036597
But from a game play perspective is? Boolet balistics are described by 4 very simple equations, 3 of them need acceleration (or are used when there is acceleration, such as the one gravity makes on boolets). As there is no acceleration in space boolets in our analogy the only remaining thing would be travel time.

From a gameplay perspecitve spengies use some kind of safety ammo that disitegrates after 800 meters travelled, because nobody wants tiny kinetic missiles travelling astronomical units before they hit something and stop
>>
>>155037204
because if it's backwards, you're backwards too and wouldn't know. you want causality to be backwards
>>

Who said that it's going forward? Time is just be a vector without a body of reference, whichever direction it points in doesn't matter.

>>155037007

IIRC I think Chinese time "moves" in a stack - old things accumulate under, new things on top, but nothing is ever "in the past", only "in the stack". Unsure, though.
>>
>>155034618
well if I could get missiles to approach from outside angles then point defense would have a harder time right?
>>
>>155037694
Different interpretation of an abstract idea that has no grounding in reality. Attributing "direction" to time is a philosophical construct at most.
>>
>>155037694
Are we talking human perception of time or time as in spacetime continuum time

The former is a mystery while the latter has all sorts of nice equations for you to look at
>>
>>155037859
But math model of time is interconected with vectors of movement. If you somehow found a way to move "more forward" than "forward" the time vector will be pointing "backward".

Possibly because even as we speak we're in fact tumbling through space at a horrifying velocity in a roughly circular orbit

>>155037705
No, if you use the vanilla 104m/s cap it won't make any difference.
If you're using a speed mod, just make it faster, point defense won't have time to shoot it down even if it goes straight, and if I recall correctly rockets on pirate ships aren't even set to shoot small ships.

If you're concerned it might be shot down, shoot missiles paired with a decoy, or shoot a bunch of them, or a bunch of them and one is the decoy.

The only way to elude turrets targeting is to be moving really fast, or have sharp acceleration.

Spengos was born in the last bit of the gtx700
Saw the gtx900 come and go, and now its seing the gtx1000, born in the last bit of haswell, and saw skylake born, and prolly get replaced with the newer one, its what i have from reference.
If theorically reach beta when the 1100 series comes out, yea, it will be a point when the hardware and software will overcome anything.

Even today playing games at machines that overcome everything that the engine throws at it, you wont notice how shit is optmizied when the hardware is actually struggling to get there, you have to go to the task manager and put low priority because it stutters every x ammount of seconds and play with options here and there.

So, yes, when the game is finally released and 100% complete. in 4 more years.
Unless they put pretty makeup and release it as finnished, like doing good looking blocks.. OHSHIT.

So, treating one point as an origin, I've found the distance to Klendathu's surface is

51 from 0,0,0
72 from 0,0, -27
57 from 0,15, -27

so that gets me

2601=x^2+y^2+z^2
5184=x^2+y^2+(z+27)^2
3249=x^2+(y-15)^2+(z+27)^2

Trusting the calculator more than my own math, Combining the first two spheres yields a z value of 34.353, and plugging that into the first sphere yields their intersection: a circle of 1421=x^2+y^2

this is where my brain fails me and I have a hard time figuring out how to implement the third circle

maybe if you could "bake" an object and have it no longer have physics it would work but then it would just be a prop or set piece and not really a piece of engineering
plus shit gets fucky in SE when it's so big that it can go from a planet surface all the way to space

I just ran through it in my head, but it looks like that the x won't be real.
You get the value of X related to Y from the last equation, you plug it into your result and find Y.
Point is this Y is pretty big, and when you go put it in the equation you have again you get something like 1000=x^2+100^2, which means x^2 = negative number.
Are you sure about the coordinates?

a) 1421=x^2+y^2

b) 3249=x^2+(y-15)^2+(z+27)^2

brev1) 3249-(y-15)^2-(z+27)^2=x^2
btw z is 103/3

brev2) -4615/9 -(y-15)^2 = x^2

combine brev2 and a

1421 = -4615/9 -(y-15)^2 +y^2

solve for y

1421+512.77 = y^2-y^2 +30y -225

y= 71.96 we rounded some numbers

Put it back into a and get X
this is the problem
1421=x^2 + 5178

x^2=1421-5178
x^2= -3757

which gives you x = +- 61.3i
good luck getting there

I'm trying to determine the coordinates of one of our planet's center. None of the numbers are entirely accurate, but rounding them

I gathered several points from the planet to triangulate the distances from the points

The hard coords are
2172062.5,1585091.62, 1722912, with a distance of 50914.5 from center
2171832.75, 1584947.62, 1695630.62 with a distance of 72399
2172013.75, 1599787.5, 1695530.88 and a distance of 57199

translating the first point into the origin gives
0,0,0
-244, -144, -27281.38
-48, 14695.88, -27381.12

It's a 120km planet. Missing the very center by a km or two. The primary use here is effectively jumping to planets from anywhere in the system. Knowing the planet's center and the reach of its grav well will let someone jump right up to the planet without the guesswork of calibrating.

Where do i even start making ships in Starmade?

Theres so many different systems in the game and things to consider I dont even know where to start.

Should I build some turrets, and then build a ship that will fit those turrets? Should I build an emtpy frame and just shove shit inside that and then make turrets fit that? Should I just make huge blocks shit like wepaons and power gens and then cover it with a skin of armor to look nice?

can't you get on the surface, record your gps position, flight straight upwards (perfect leveling obtained by jetpack autoalign with gravity) a few hundred meters), record your position again, then trace a line through it and you know that the center is about 60km below that, on that line?
Get the module for a 100meters change and multiply it by 600 would be the fastest way.
>>
>>155071801
Actually that would work pretty well. Land on the planet, fly straight up 100m, get the coordinate change, then transform the surface coord 600 times in the opposite direction.

I'd have not thought of something that simple, thanks.

Anyone have the pastebin for joining the serb?
>>
>>155070135
it depends on the application

Is it a straight up combat ship? Start with power, shields and weapons, laid out in a shiplike shape according to what you can afford, not what you have the patience for. Patience is probably the most expensive resource in starmade. Then armor it all up, and apply whatever faction flavor or personal touches to the design you want. Add extra systems in the gaps, like jump drive, scanner, jump inhibitor. Make sure from the start that the core is accessible, but also protected with doors and failsafes (put a pulse weapon in the core room to flush out boarding parties) If the ship is so large that you're hitting the 2m power regen cap with lots of room to spare, consider adding aux generators (sometimes its best not to, in the name of survivability). Experiment in singleplayer with turrets.

Is it a cloaker? Start with power grid until you can remain power stable while jumping, cloaked and jammed, and then make the hull entirely out of decorative blocks to lower the weight of the ship. The only weapons you're likely to have enough power to fire from a cloaker is docked warhead torpedoes, so don't worry about weapons.

Is it a support combat ship? Start with recon. What is the weakness of the predicted enemy? Fly a cloaker into the enemy base and noclip around their ships. What levels of power regen do their ships have? Are they using capacitor-expensive weapons (pulse secondaries, beam secondaries, missile primaries)? Factor this into considering EMP effect or drain effects (or both, with logic control). Are they using large batteries of missiles, for example heatseekers? Consider covering the ship in AMS, alternatively make a drone carrier with AMS drones. Does the enemy have few but very large ships that you need to hold in place while you gank them? Consider making a dedicated jump inhibitor ship, fragile but with over-the-top power regen and nothing but jump inhibitors.

Is it a miner/hauler? Just make big cube with engines

It's just easier to visualize as that guy doesn't seem to to be the math type. But he made a mess of reference points and measurements so I don't even know what he is doing. Geogebra won't do the math for him, only present a 3D/2D model to show him wtf he is doing.

there's a limit to how much a human can know, though. at some point academics are going to hit the barrier where you have to forego a bunch of knowledge to attain the higher level stuff. in fact, we're already there with how computers work.

who in this thread knows how to write lines of code, manipulate computer-human interfaces and even build a computer from components?

who in this thread also knows how a modern multi-core processor is structured and built, from scratch?

it's that stuff that bothers me. if a technological catastrophe happens and we're left with nothing but scraps and spare parts, we'd probably be able to get around. very few people would be able to assemble a working radio transmitter, but we wouldn't starve. our modern cars would break down but we still know how they fucking work and we have old cars in circulation and can reverse engineer that shit.

if instead, 50 or 100 years into the future, when we're basically living surrounded by all sorts of hyper-powerful computer technology, when everything in our lives is dictated by social media and the internet, when cars and trucks drive themselves, when food is dispensed as opposed to bought. say a technological catastrophe happens and we're left with nothing but scraps and spare parts. people would literally fucking starve. people wouldn't be able to make working radio transmitters or receivers. it would be a fucking dark age.

The point is, knowledge does not need to be in our heads at all times. It needs to be archived, and it is. We have decentralised, worldwide network of knowledge, that is growing daily. We are putting all our findings somewhere, physically and digitally.

We have found the problem to be that one human cannot master all crafts in one lifetime, so we diversified. It doesn't mater if the redneck down the road doesn't follow the memes around the EM drive, or has no care for the large hardon collider in my pants. As long as some of us stay in touch with the peaks of our technology, we are going forward.

I was having a discussion with my brother about this.
To make new scientific advances, humans have to work in larger and larger groups with more and more funding. This is waaay different from the 19th century for instance, where so many advances came from rich guys using their money and studying stuff independantly.

So I figure the only way to advance past a certain point will be with either AI, or using eugenics to create a smarter human.

Eve online has multiple shards. Most if not all MMOs do. It means your entire game doesn't go down if one server croaks.

eve online has multiple shards, that's true. the regular one(Tranquility), the test shards and the chinese shard. there's also the temporary shards, like the tournament shard

the only one you'll ever be playing on is Tranquility however and i think dual has it set to be the same way.

But honestly, how else are they supposed to support space voxel combat on a literal MMO scale if they don't do that?

What's your expert opinion?
>>
>>155118275
EvE Online runs on a distributed, virtualised, networked cluster of segmented "regions", each seamlessly connected. Each of these "regions" uses resources of the network, and these resources can be scaled up or down based on need, load, failure or maintenance. What you, as a player, perceive as "one shard", is, in reality, many machines (most virtual) that work in concert.

There isn't a single server. There is dozens, if not more. Any "seamless" MMO has a similar system in place. Doesn't matter if it's Skyfudge, ArSheAge, Blacked Pudding, Guilty Wars 2 or any of the others. Even World of Whorecraft does that. They used to run physical clusters back in the day, though. That changed as technology progressed.

Yeah chiming in here I thought this was common knowledge that serverspeeds are scaled based on player interaction within the region, like the massive slow-downs during epic-scale combat between hundreds and hundreds of players?

Honestly, I'm not an expert on servers, so I don't have an expert opinion to give you. That being said, not knowing how to fix a problem doesn't remove the problem itself.

Really it just has so many outright issues that can't be ignored - if I can't reliably tell where another player is, how will I shoot him if he boards my large ship and he's far enough away to lag? Will the game attempt to use a skill system to shoot him for me, in which case I'll have needed to grind out accuracy levels in advance if I want to hit? Or will everyone have the same chance-to-hit RNG, which means any and all firefights of equal firepower come down to luck? How will dogfighting work - how will I shake a fighter that's chasing me if he's just far enough away to where he starts lagging out on my end? What if I'm in a fleet with other large ships - how will I avoid accidentally crashing into where they actually are as opposed to where I see them at, since large ships will always be far enough away from you to lag due to their size? Will movement/piloting even be manual, or will it have to be somewhat automatic like EVE to mitigate these issues?

If you wanna be optimistic about it by all means feel free to do so, but as it stands dual universe isn't going to live up to what little hype it has unless they address and resolve these basic mechanical problems.

Here's the thing; update-rate-limited players aren't "lagging out"; if they did their netcode right, if you put your gun on them and shoot, they should die.

If they did the update rate code right, update rate should scale with both distance and relative velocity, so a speedy ship that's far away (or a stationary ship you're closing on rapidly) would still get updated frequently. optimally, refresh rate should almost be a function of traversal rate.

>Here's the thing; update-rate-limited players aren't "lagging out"; if they did their netcode right, if you put your gun on them and shoot, they should die.

So if I see someone where they were, say, half a second ago, and shoot them, it should hit? For the guy getting shot, they're going to have already made it behind cover on their screen, then fall over and die. Even if it's not as big a gap as half a second, it's still gonna feel weird since it can't be instant. Maybe I'm just misreading what you're saying here, but if I'm not then your solution comes with its own set of pretty serious problems.

>If they did the update rate code right, update rate should scale with both distance and relative velocity, so a speedy ship that's far away (or a stationary ship you're closing on rapidly) would still get updated frequently. optimally, refresh rate should almost be a function of traversal rate.

In a perfect world, yeah, you'd be right - but if this were the case you could theoretically crash out an area just by having a ton of fast ships in it. As in, if the game can only support X units updating quickly (which is true, since that's the whole reason the game has this system in place), and someone comes in with any more than X ships that are all going fast enough to need to be updated quickly, then what happens? Do you get overloaded since it doesn't know how to reconcile updating that many enemies quickly, or does it try to only update some of them quickly, thereby preserving performance but adding on the risk that one of the ships that isn't updating quickly can be the one that kills you?

Really though, none of this matters too much since apparently ship-v-ship combat didn't make it into the bare minimum of the game's features, so if it doesn't make more than the current minimum of $500,000 it might just never happen anyway.

Nigger I'l' have rate production of primitive electronic components within ten years. I'll have electromechanical 4-bit machines built from post-collapse components in 15. Before then I'll have machines built of salvage and low-complexity salvage tech before the end of the first year. The trick is using intact salvage to begin and interface to your new machines built of salvage from component parts as well as low-tech computing solutions like Z80-based hardware intended to directly interface with salvage tech on a bit level. We'll have working TI calculators well into the apocalypse, might as well use them since our rack-built systems made from newly constructed primitive discrete components will be about on the same level of tech complexity once we get to settlement mainframes. It won't be difficult to do simple digital transmissions from spark-gap radio sets, either.

Nigger I never even went to college. I just know how to make low level hardware because that's my shit. Atom laptops have the lowest power requirements of full x86 hardware and are thus the best case for maintaining one last gasp of pre-collapse capability based on simple battery life until we get to the point nothing is left but a billion TI-83s and we have to start pulling components and making our own discrete 4004 clones if we want anything new.

There are computers and calculators made with nothing but redstone. Granted, mods allow you to do crazy shit easier, but vanilla is just as good for that.
>>
Scrap Mechanic has logic gates. Should be very simple to slap an adder or somesuch together. Theoretically you could build a computer complex in Fallout 4 as well but I have seen nothing of the sort attempted and I think there are issues with gate placement density if I remember right.
>>
>>155139934
Still, only a few will be capable of making a shit calculator from scratch.

as long as caveman suvival goes, anyone can do it.

Imagine all those shitheads with no TV, and no drama bullshit to feed on.
You will have to go purge time, and use their meat to feed animals, at least they will be usefull for something.

I know what game you're thinking of, not the one I was.

What I had in mind I think was Logisim, not a game at all.

First made a 1 bit adder, then used that as a module in another circuit and now have a 4 bit adder.

Guess I should have a look at the actually hard operations.
>>
>>155140618
Nah, all you gotta do is put those guys to work for the guys who know shit. Raid libraries. That kind of thing. Joe Knownothing doesn't need to know how to make a 4-bit adder, he just needs to wrap paper capacitors for the guy that does.

So we need to just hivemind, if we want to be actually usefull.

Borg implants to hivemind the entire human race together when?

Actually that would be bad. Only select people should be allowed into the hivemind. We dont need the hivemind polluted with bullshit, unless we had something that guided the entire hivemind, and overwrote any fucked up people that joined it.
>>
>>155141194
I contest that thought.

Bigger heads and brains wouldn't really mean that much if we aren't capable of multitasking at a higher level, which just having a bigger brain I don't think would suffice alone.

For instance if say we did get so intelligent we could absorb every local source of data at once, we've got 2 eyes, 2 ears. Maximum 4 input tasks for learning simultaneously. There's no way we could surpass that no matter how big the brain gets.

We need more eyes, more ears.

Yeah, fake nuts, for when you lose one in an accident, or to cancer. Come in all different shapes and sizes, so they can match it to your other nut. Or you can just tell them to put in the biggest one they can find.

Your body can function okay off one nut, but you wont be the same every again. You wont have the same drive and strength you would have with two balls. Thats why they have fake balls that can slowly give off testosterone and need fillups, or guys go on pills/patches for the rest of their lives to get a normal amount of hormones to keep them normal.

Lazyness is a function of the human condition, people don't do things they don't need to do or don't enjoy.
Consequently, a lot of people don't know a lot, and don't know how to learn either.
It's just natural, and completely understandable.
I doubt you could motivate anyone try and know anything, and I doubt the human brain is capable of preserving that information for that long.

The helmet was the nineteen fifties classic goldfish bowl, a clear glass bubble showing the head of a young man with a scraggly beard and long oily blond hair tied back into a pigtail. No radiation protection,Wilson thought inanely. There was no backpack either, no portable life-support module. Instead, a bundle of pressure hoses snaked away from the youth’s waist to a...

without a reference point you will not have a fixed point to say where you are relative to everything else unless you're very clever which I and most people are not

I don't really know, I'm also a freshman, had a few relatives and friends in the business give me a heads up before I went to uni.
But I'd recommend getting some kind of engineering, math or something, maybe logistics.
Then work on building up a profile of code you've worked on to show to potential employers as part of your resume.
Basically, get a degree that shows you're above the average code monkey who gets a cs degree, and then back it up with proof.
Sort of what I did to get a part time job in IT, so that I could have some free money to work with.

I dont know how could you operate shit through antenas using scripts, that would be something interesting.

Closest you can get is with fleet command scripts, because you can command a swarm of ships, as defence or as guided missiles.
Check and mod those if needed.
>>
>>155177556
You're gonna need to pick a protocol from the workshop for antenna transmission, or use Fleet Command Mod. You're then gonna need to use Easy Automation or some other system to put that information on a text panel to be read and transmitted.

How do you get missiles/torpedoes dropped straight down from a plane to hit anything? One turn guidance doesn't seem to work
>>
>>155192926
One turn + heat/radar guidance + variable thruster with a high ramp up time to give time to the guidance to target something
>>
>>155192423
Did you work on spore? No man's sky? Robocraft?
>>
>>155193049
Thanks is the ramp up time the key to making them turn before they hit the water?
>>
>>155193174
Either that or add more fins. The main problem with down facing missiles is that the higher they are, the less they turn because of air density. On one of my bombers the bombs have 2 fins and a ramp up time of 5, so most of the time they are able to aim at their target.
There's also another option: add a torpedo propeller to the missile, that way even if it hits the water it will be able to get out without problem
>>
>>155193328
I'm trying torpedos with one turn and sonar at the moment and they just don't acquire a target unless they happen to randomly point in the right direction after bouncing in the water a few times.

does one turn work at all on a vertically air dropped torpedo or would you need a thruster to turn it on the way down?

The thing that irks me with Dual isn't so much the premise or the empty promises as the fact that they are aiming for a subscription model akin to that of EvE, including PLEX(ingame subscription tokens that can be sold for ingame money). The problem with this is, in EvE, you're limited by your skill points as to how much shit you can properly fit and fly. You can't buy a bunch of PLEX day 1 and exit Jita 4-4 with a fully fit drake, for example. You have to train core skills, then frigates, then cruisers, then battlecruisers only to FLY the damn thing, then you need to train all the surrounding skills for their bonuses like missiles, shields and hardeners, all sorts of fucking shit.

Something tells me the skill tree limitations in Dual are going to be trivial, as in, you will probably be able to cobble together a giant death cube if you just have the money, and then fly it and kill everything. Thankfully it won't be that way from day 1 because there probably won't be a trade hub to buy EVERYTHING from before people even establish their factions, but Dual is probably going to become unplayable extremely fast.

A forum script for helicarriers that I've basically completely recoded at this point to allow laterial movement towards a target, formation-flying, and resource zone seeking. I'm making changes to the Lua API, so its current state is not something I can release, at the moment.

All my refineries are on quadcopter platforms and all I have to do is release them near an RZ, and they'll form a circle around the flagship, which moves to the center of the RZ. If one of them is destroyed, the circle is adjusted. Similarly, my modified Atlases also form a V-shaped formation so they don't shoot each other, with each atlas assigned their own "flight deck" so they don't collide. They're heavily armed, so a single hit from the NuCannons I armed them with can drop one of them from the sky. The rest of the ship is packed with missile launchers, torpedoes, and flares.

I also have an automated facility to build my Atlas mod by way of a Lua script that detects how many resources the gantry holds before starting the build process.

SECE is a bit fucked up because the Keen GitHub guy released the wrong build. A lot of things aren't rendering properly.

I get that. Point in question, is, is it feasible to run SECE on the server andforce players to install it (if that is necessary), or would I be screwed as soon as a new version hits?

Features, neat as they are, are secondary to performance improvements. Does SECE offer those? I know you put work into your documentation, but what I am looking for is a straight and forward, short answer.
>>
Is the codewizard that worked on despaghetifying and improving physics calcs in spergies still around?
>>
>>155212962
SECE doesn't offer any performance enhancements, yet. Dev does have a far better renderer, which solves some clientside lag, and has a few more fixes than stable. Therefore, it may be better than stable, in that regard. I am planning an atmosphere detection rework since the current system is a mess, but that won't be for a while.

SECE also uses a different server tag and versioning scheme than stock, so stock players and SECE players are basically on a whole different channel from each other.

Yeah, built it in creative, them hit Ctrl B to turn it into a blueprint. Hit F-10 to bring up your saved blueprints and publish it to the Steam Workshop. Then other servers can use that blueprint too.

Spengies PVP requires the following of the participants;
>Automated detection and exploitation of resources
>Automated production and repair
>Reliable and scalable ability to direct ships remotely and en masse
>Detection capability beyond 800m

And of the server;
>ability to handle 15+ clients without issue

I give you that automated construction and repairs are a must, but I think it would be better to have crewed vessels rather than fleets of unmanned ships.

On the most basic scale, I'm thinking Guns of Icarus or whatever that airship combat game is. If we had better tracking, and the ability to set up in-depth SITREP monitors, you could still play the RTS "general commanding his fleet" game, but with actual players flying your ships.

Its going to take you months that way.

Just start a creative world in a single planet and fuck arround with stuff, to test miners and shit.
Have some google tabs at hand with info.
Make goals and a list of what do you need.

Then start a survival.
The amospheric lander lacks of an arch furnance, you you have to build one, then you can cut here and there and use the upgrade modules to save energy in both the refinery and the assembler, then make the solar panel arrange, put some fucking wheels, relocate the ore detector to the top to not breaking it, and roll to find uranium, make an atmospheric miner, and empty that shit.
once you have that. then start to make a base or something.

I think the biggest problem is that people try to jump right in then get discouraged when they find that it's literally the worst way to experience the game. Vanilla is garbage, from everything being too weak to be viable, to just being a pain in the ass in general.

Mods are probably more important to this game than they are for Minecraft.

dogs only come at night right? minecraft had the right idea, start you in the morning always, have a whole day to build something to deal with zombies the coming night

spengies just throws you in completely randomly, and because the planet is way too big and the ships are way too slow you can't really feasibly fly to the other side without dying of boredom if you get a shitty start

of course the default sun cycle of 2 hours is extremely long, so if you do start in the middle of the night you can't just wait it out either like if you fucked up in minecraft and just dig a hole in the ground to hide in

Playing the game on vanilla is actually the hardest.
Most mods are literal cheats.

>inb4 muh nanites

The difference with minecraft is that you can drift away and somehow survive and grab stuff to create.

Without a refinery, an assembler, you are fucked. its like taking the driver licence for a bike.

What if there is no one, well, that is what happens.

I don't mind the reliance on pre-existing refineries, the respawn ships come with everything you need to bootstrap anyway

although they're very expensive so expanding your production is dull, could do with some smaller cheaper refineries for the early game

having to turn off any kind of hazard is, idk like playing on peaceful in minecraft? but I guess if keen can't balance it for shit then that's the only way, still they default to on so new players get fucked again

the progression is awful, you basically need every type of component and every type of ore right from the start, but you can waste a lot of time looking for that one ore that didn't spawn near you, so often the only way to do this is to cannibalize your starter ship, you either have everything right out of the gate or you're fucked

actually, the "lone start" with finite asteroids isn't that bad, because the starter 'roid has pretty much everything and the finite asteroids seem to have better ore variety too, and they aren't a hundred miles off each so mining them is less of a chore

I guess clang doesn't like SUVs
>>

Back then the limit was 350ms, over that, everything went to shit, now its over 2kms to reach the same level of glitchness

you can use a steam workshop downloader and put the mods anyway.

Hover racecars are the lowest you can get.
>>
>>155237143

Practice, and inspiration mostly.

Not that I can talk since lately im having trouble engaging my space ship autism drives, but just immerse yourself in some scifi.
Read some new novels, watch some new shows, pick up some new designs.
>>
>>155239676
I read loadsa scifi. I'm just a scrub
>>
>>155239479
so what's a safe limit now you reckon?
>>
>>155239879

Then you've got the inspiration and things to draw on.

You just need the practice.

When you start out the shapes you can make, and the rules you can bend to get your ships to do what you want are pretty limited. But as you go you learn more and more about what crazy bullshit you can pull off to make your ship look good and fly better.
>>
>>155240170
put the light speed mod, and dont go beyond 1000ms with rigid single grid shit
and not beyond 500ms with anything else, even if it has landing gears, connectors or whatever in use that is not just blocks and stuff

Most mods have a 400ms cap, the problem is.
If you have shit you want permalocked, it will unlock because you came back from the cap speed.
And also will add the lock unlock issue when you dont want it.
So, if you set the speed higher, you wont have that issue, but look at the speed, you might end up going really REALLY fast.
>>
>>155240546
>>155240745

Honestly anon, I think it's kinda kawaii in an industrial way.
>>
>>155241029
so it does have issues with 400m/s? now I'm confused
>>
>>155241259
Ill make it as simple as i can.

install 400ms speed mod
>ship with rotors reach 400ms and rotors lock no matter what
>if you slow down, rotors unlock no matter what
>most of the times this is when everything explodes

>install a lightspeed mod
>ship reaches 400ms and nothing happens
>ship slow down and nothing happens

Dont install speed mods that you are going to reach, so you avoid this lock problem with pistons and rotors.

Thats why i recomend the light speed over everything else.
>>
>>155241437
so at what speed does this happen exactly? just the cap? wouldn't it happen with the 100 cap too then?
>>
>>155241709
yes, its the cap speed what does this.

At first was implemented as a... a... a "fix" for people having multiple grids ships going CLANG because of shit inertia and physics calculations with separated grids.
Then a button to command them and a bar to change the speed when this happen appear, but you cant just disable the whole thing, if you cap, you lock, if you go down, you CLANG.

The glitch i mention is now past 800ms, but depends of the grids, i have a 5 links of rotors, and even locked, they start to do weird shit near 1000ms.
But pic related was able to reach that speed with 3 grids in total, and back then.

I'm 100% convinced that this is impossible. I've made large ship planetary lander that can dock with a larger jump drive section that stays in orbit but everytime I try and jump it just blows a hole in the ship.

Connectors?
>>
>>155243367
Yup, connectors. I also tried merge blocks but they screw up all my groups.
>>
>>155243457
Thats why, you need to use merge blocks, the rest is uncertain, landing gears and connectors.
Use the connectors force to aling and then turn the merge on to dock.
never knew how to fix that group shit, maybe creating the groups when its 1 chunk, and then split and rejoin to see if still happens.
>>
>>155242056
well I tried to turn it up to 460 but I started phasing through my ship and dying when I got out of the chair

nice and quick to get around though

oh well
>>
>>155244024
Well, i forgot to mention that you need to manually change the override speed for everything, because its set to 104ms no matter what mod you put.

ACC to memory and memory to ACC functions added. Example program:

0 SET ACC TO 4
1 SUBTRACT FROM ACC 1
2 MOV ACC TO MEM ADDRESS 10
3 SET ACC TO 0
4 ADD TO ACC 0
5 MOV MEM ADDRESS 10 TO ACC
6 ADD TO ACC 0
7 SET POINTER TO 7

this is essentially just a test of the memory functions. The add zero functions are just there to do nothing and make changes more obvious. The final function sets the pointer to the same location, causing and endless loop (finish program).

How exactly am i supposed to use a tail plane with a complex controller?
don't they cover 2 directions(rotational, yaw and pitch)
>>
>>155250575
I thought of this a while back, if you make some magic with the mountpoints (allowing to build on the end of the door block) you could also add a "ghost" lock surface with no hitbox, so that you wouldn't even lose the lock capability.

I have no idea how much effort this would require to mod in.
