I honestly think anyone's forgiveable if they show remorse or guilt and stop doing the bad thing.
Flowey, for example, didn't feel guilty at all about killing people in time loops. I guess part of lacking a soul is feeling that guilt, although he didn't show any remorse as OF either (ie. +6 souls)
As Asriel, he did. So it's tricky.

But with Asgore, he didn't even want to kill humans in the first place and he recognizes that the whole plot was a stupid mistake on his part. He can't reverse what he did and in the end, it did help monsters break the barrier. He didn't go through with his original plan of killing all the humans so the monsters can live in peace, post-TP, because at that point, he's learned that it's not worth it.

I'm a dadfag but I'll admit that Asgore fucked up hardcore and did some really monstrous stuff and is directly responsible for the death of six kids but the fact that he suffered for it, it had real consequences ( like the fact that he hates himself and that him and Toriel will never get back together), his motives and that he showed remorse to the point that he'll fucking die smiling if you choose to kill him was enough to make me sympathize with him and forgive him.

It's totally cool if people disagree through, everyone is entitled to their opinions.

The tricky part is the soul bullshit is by no means an exact science. Would having even one soul allow someone without their own to eventually feel emotion to some extent? Maybe. Flowey certainly didn't when he took 6 human souls. On the other hand, Asriel took 6 human souls and (potentially) thousands of monster souls, which are all heavily based on magic, which is amplified on human souls. Because of that it's possible that his emotional capacity bubbled right back up in minutes, whereas it could've taken days or weeks had he just taken human souls. I'll always think that you only need one soul to feel, but the effects may not be as immediate as we were led to believe.
