At that scale the performance impact seems negligible, though the release notes do mention that it can be a performance hog if you're not careful.

You unknowingly propagated it, by participating in ignorance.
Source is not a bad engine, it's simply out of date. Successful games have been released using it, Stanley Parable being a notable title in the context of amateur game dev. It's no longer current or relevant for game devving, because you are limiting yourself if you continued to dev in Source today; anything you want to do, could be done in Unreal, Unity, any other 3D engine.

Now the primary start of game tinkering was with level editors; remember that Source was released for Counter-Strike. Every faggot kid that wanted to get into games generally started(and ended) with tinkering in Source to make the next hot CS level that everyone would play. Of course 99% were never ever touched or used, probably never even finished. This blends into a few other stereotypes and tropes, like kids messing around in level editors never making anything worth half a shit, imbalance, bad design, claiming to be a dev when they really just half-finish worthless shooter maps, etc.

These trends were really only bucked by Stanley Parable, which is really just a walking simulator written by a film school drop-out(he admits this) that can't make the engine do anything other than decoration, player movement and playing sounds.

Posting those two images is a powerful meme, because it conveys a series of overlapping and inter-related ideas simultaneously. One of disrespect towards the growth of game mechanics, of disregard for meaningful level design & placing it above other more important development elements, a winking nod of "yeah, I'm posting this again, to get the same response over & over," of forced irony in the grainy filter and loss of image quality in the file actually posted, and a commentary on Source's growing irrelevance in game development despite its commercial and creative viability in one outlier instance.

Yes I would like it to turn it into an actual game, but I don't have a to do list or know what to do next, I just work on what I feel like to do. I also have not thought of a story, at the moment I just try to make all the game mechanics work and worry about story and map layout later.

My best estimate is that I like them as a medium, almost for storytelling or worldbuilding but not in the sense of a walking simulator.

I guess it's that I like that you can "do stuff" instead of from the more traditional gaming perspective of setting basic mechanics for the player and then setting them incremental challenges in how they use those mechanics. I'm almost more sandboxy "Here are mechanics figure it out yourself"

so i probably went overboard here but i'll breakdown what i did.
i started with trying to get the eyes lined up better, and not wanting to do anything drastic i just added a pixel to the eye on the left. then i got to the mouth and realized that this is a really hard angle to work at. i think i ruined her smile, but i really wanted to make things look cohesive. also moved the ears in closer to the face and removed the diagonal white line outside her jaw that i couldn't read.
for the neck i mostly just made it a box and then smoothed out the neckline with the trapezius muscle. that type of flared neck isn't very common in women, but even then you can mostly insinuate the tilt from the shoulder and head balance. it's usually a good idea to point the clavicles straight towards the shoulders so i did that too.

i didn't mean to change the left arm so much but her breasts drew my stylus in. well, the main point is that the forearms have a fairly tapered look (varies with angle). also raised the shoulder and reworked the armpit area a bit. at this point i realized that i''ve overdone it and i guess i went over and just smoothed out some lines here and there.

OK, since most people here are asshats, here is some constructive crits.

The wobble effect on everything is nice but very distracting from the game play. It makes it hard to determine hit boxes especially when using the bullets. Speaking of which, the player ball is too big for the limited screen, it should be around half the size but retain the same physics. I would also suggest that there be some slight visual clue that the sides drop the combo, or change them to be bouncy, that could introduce a more dynamic gameplay element.

The boss can now copy all of your current magic abilities at this point (the idea is you fight it again shortly after getting a new weapon throughout the game). If it learned your down-ice ability and knows your basic-ice attack, it will use that to hit it. The explosive ice hockey puck will now bounce off of walls when hit horizontally, and persists until either another puck is created, or the internal timer runs out. Ignoring getting hit by it of course. If you don't want to deal with hopping over it every couple of seconds, you can use your ice block to make it a non-issue.

Think I got the Sins camera mostly nailed.

All rotations happen relative to the galactic plane.
Whenever you zoom in, if your cursor is relatively close to an object, it focuses on that object otherwise it focuses on the galactic plane.
Whenever you zoom out, it releases your focus.

Just need to fix the smoothing, add some damping and allow manual panning and I think I'm done.

In a turn based battle system with fixed units, let's say 2 enemies and two players, the turn based system's turn order would look like Player1 > Enemy1 > Player 2 > Enemy2 if we ignore any stats or whatever might affect the turn order, which is fine because these enemies are always the same

I'm not sure how to do that with randomly generated units, honestly, at least in a way that I made it work. Player 1-4 and Enemy 1-4 only serve to set spawn points, null is an object that automatically skips its turn, turn order is set to max 8 fighters. I just now noticed that nextTurn=0; is obsolete because I have a NextTurn script that does it instead.

I don't have much in either player or enemy classes, I just have them set as objects to display sprites and debug messages so I know they've been properly spawned, got proper stats, that kind of thing
Not sure about ds list being an array considering arrays are a separate thing in GML, sorry

Okay I'll bite, what is the regular process of porting animations into a game?

I imagine it's different depending on game engine but what are the most common animation filetypes? What's the usual process?

Can you convert one animation filetype to another?

If you can't break up frames of animation into a sprite sheet, you probably should learn how.

unless you're specifically targeting a square screen device, move your hud to a letterbox on the side/bottom of the screen, a la vertical shoot em ups on a horizontal display.

As for the game, it looks fast and fun, but not really that unique. If you have something planned to make it unique vs. other games, then you will have to implement it if you really want to see people impressed. If you don't have something unique to throw into the mix, then you better start working on something to add.

Valkyria Chronicles

keep everything from from chronicles style/theme just change:

and obviously change the names of shit and and instead of magic whatever it was to magic something else or go lite steam punk.

maybe have a bit more in-depth character unit creations and customization. Make the commander you pick have unique abilities and stuff or specific Orders that you can select from as you level up.

only real issue would be setting up a server for player accounts to be tied into so you can make sure everyone does things "fairly".

Monetize the game with kawaii cosplay costumes and dick hat achievements, oh and tank hats!

search your heart, you know this is a game the world needs. why SEGA didn't have something like from the start (at least local co-op) blows my mind. I guess they just hate money.
