Does anyone else feel kind of unsure about where they're going to go with the next game?
Like, I know it's popular to hate on styles and arts because "muh anime" but they add a lot of dynamism to the gameplay and I like how heavily aerial and adept change a weapon's playstyle, to the point where even different weapons want to use each style differently (with DB using its dodge as an attack, leading a player to dodge at the monster with the adept dodge instead of at an angle like with weapons that gain attacks AFTER the dodge, or away from the monster like with weapons that use their dodges defensively- bow)
But I'm concerned because it's almost a guarantee that they're going to be HEAVILY nerfed, because let's face it, there's almost no reason to ever use guild for the majority of the weapons, and I don't think that attack arts are going to be untouched, considering most of them have MVs over 150.
I'm mostly worried that they're going to nerf styles so hard that there won't be a reason to use anything other than guild unless it's a hard counter to a specific monster.

I'm not saying they're necessary, but they're a lot of fun and add more choices to how to handle the game.

I don't mind styles and hunter arts, but they need to go. They stray far too much from established gameplay conventions, and the last thing we need is Mohun emulating its imitators like God Eater and such.
I don't have a problem with them, but I wouldn't miss them either. What would be better than constantly trying new gimmicks is refining things. Make hitboxes even better. Give monsters better, more "realistic" animations. Hell, bring back swimming and climbing and refine them, too. At least those two gimmicks could have expanded upon gameplay in meaningful ways if they were tweaked.

Honestly, I don't mind deviants too much as a concept. The only thing I really dislike about them (which literally no one disagrees with) is that they're way too fucking tedious with needing to farm them around 30 fucking times to make their armor sets.
I don't understand why they couldn't have consolidated the hunts into three or four hunts with larger jumps in difficulty, instead of ten hunts with a 10% stat boost each time. Basically like the ranks, y'know?

Hypers are basically shit, as much as i like the theory of gaining benefits from attacking specific parts that change throughout the fight, I think it was really handled in the laziest way.

Which, really, is what a lot of Gen feels like, as much as I really enjoy it. It's flawed, and it feels like a lazy grab at nostalgia; but because of its flaws I feel like there's that much extra room for refinement and improvement with the next game.
And that's why I have mixed feelings about the next title: I feel like Gen gave the devs a lot of interesting changes to the gameplay to try out and experiment with, and Gen very much feels like an experiment that they didn't think could stand on its own, so they finally threw fans a bone and let us visit old villages and experience our nostalgia with old maps again.
But I hope that they work with what they have, instead of throwing it away. With the massive reception Gen's had in the West, I'm not really too concerned about them just trashing it all, but I am concerned about them basically making a lot of it null with nerfs

I think some of the top areas are fine. Nerscylla's spawn point (although now lacking the net that it had in 4U) and the other net area (without the slope) are fine, it's just the lower levels filled with impassable terrain where the monster can wander into and attack you from that are a pain.

That's an option alright but I find it strictly inferior to amatsu. Amatsu may have a negative affinity but it has a huge bar of green that doesn't need razor sharp at all and brings water to smash hellblade and similarly weak to water monsters. Plus it looks cooler.

Anyway... Bump it down to sharpness+1. You also need razor sharp so you can stay at green indefinitely if you use absolute readiness.

Also, the whole beauty of bludgeoner is not only how cheap it is, but it's stackable with Attack. Fit in attack up M/L if you can instead of crit eye.
