I tried IV and im trying Apocalypse now but i never get really far because the setup is always 2 hours of portraits talking to you and then when you finally get into the game you navigate menus to switch between hubs and talk to more portraits.

Eh, it varies from person to person. It gets old seeing long attacks against random encounters, but I love big animations in boss battles. I've been playing 7th dragon lately, and the game has a big flaw in a way (no animation skip), but I still like seeing stuff like the overly elaborate Ex Skill animations when I'm killing a boss.

That said, I'm not one of the people whining about the lack of attack animations in SMTIV.

I did it.

I don't know how much you miss attacks in IVA, but that was barely an issue in IV. The enemies just hit harder and they had slightly more HP. But that only meant that you needed to have reliable healers and a decent amount of well built demons to survive.
It was pretty thrilling to be honest.

Despite everything, IV had really cool alignment talk and reps. Its a tragedy that IVA decided it was a ruse. I feel bad for lucifer too. I think its just neutral bias talking. The narrative seems to think that since you will no longer exist distinctly as a human, what you are is so different that it counts as death. I guess it makes sense in a way. If you merged with someone else, even if you still existed, you'd know beforehand that your distinct personality will now be combined with others, so your future life will obviously bear little resemblance to your past, even if the new being can identify itself as having been you, and act like you when it wants. Asahi can't revive during the early levels, is unreliable and my demons mostly got two shotted in War difficulty from enemies, plus with the free turns they get after failed scouting...
I also don't see an early mp recovery app (IV was level 10), mp drains pretty fast and you can't get any revival beads that I know of
