I think it could work, given the proper tweaking.

First, you'd have to do away with the kissing and anything that isn't handholding or bridal carry (can't have any of the characters displaying feelings, after all. Who feels things these days?). Then you'd have to emphasize the fact that her just being there already puts her closer to Sonic than Amy ever was during the whole time they've known each other.

I highly doubt that considering how many little gremlins would eat it up in the first place but also because of how long Sonic Team has had to take in thoughts on those games and their mistakes in titles that came after those.

Which none of the Sonic games have gone into at all. The most complex thing in Sonic so far has been the time travel shit in 06 and not even adults can figure than one out, followed by Sonic's ideology in Black Knight, followed by Shadow/Gerald's revenge for Maria in SA2 in that order. Kids are not fucking stupid and they will pick up on themes and morals and values and all this other shit and the shit that they don't pick up or they weren't meant to pick up at a young age will dawn on them later in life.
And don't even act like anything Sonic related except 06, Heroes, and LW had performances anywhere near the level of bad the Naruto dub had.

Uh, no. Not at all, m8. It would be overly ambitious if it tried to explore advanced philosophy, morals, or ethics or tried too hard to relate to some controversial topical shit of the time.

It doesn't matter how the hell the public views Sonic, Sonic Team should do their best to make every aspect of their games as good as possible and achieve the vision they have for it and thinking otherwise is basically telling them to quell their vision because people might say mean things again.

I think Sonic's world has so much unique shit that Sega could expand upon. Look at the Lost Hex, for instance. It's a floating continent of illusion where you can run on strands of licorice and donuts, and roll giant pieces of fruit around. And that's not even counting the weird shit, like Little Planet or the Special Zone.

What about Pumpkin Hill? Also in SA2, the settings are kind of similar to the surreal settings in SA and SU. It just that story takes place in a more realistic settings one huge map where Sonic and co. were escaping from GUN and going after Eggman when he and his crew were stealing the emeralds in one of those areas. Unlike Heroes where the characters looked like they traveled all over the world or whatever, SA2 had the characters stayed in one country and only moving to different regions. That's why most stages looked pretty similar to one another.

I LOVE how springy , colorful and bouncy Lostworld's movements is. But for god sake It probably has the worst sense of momentum and movement of any sonic game I've played. Oddly enough, this is why I'm mildly rustled by the premise of the Storybook games.
There's a bunch of surreal, magical, impossible shit in Sonic's world already. So why does he have to get sucked into a book universe to go fight genies on the back of giant flying manta rays? That's the sort of stuff I expect in a NORMAL Sonic adventure.

Sally is a good tactician and has fancy blades. But Amy is canonically super fast (just not sonic fast) super strong and resilient as all hell. She's determined and dedicated and just a plain tougher than she looks kinda gal.

To a degree the same can be said about Sally but she's just not as tough.
