Real question from someone who's just getting interested recently in SC.
I aim to do a bit of everything, but I like fighting.
Should I go for the Redeemer, the Retaliator Base, or the Constellation Andromeda.
I like the look of the Retaliator but it doesn't have pylon or gimball mounts...

Where were you when SC pirates were BTFO?
>So many of us who really don't want to be molested when playing this game, (Unless we are actually in the mood for it.) are adopting the arm for bear mentality. We have spent more money that we should have with one thing in mind, ... Overkill.
If a pirate comes at me nice like, and will provide protection for a fee, I'll talk.... no problem really.
But if they come at me thug like, or pew pew right off the bat, I'm going to shoot that proverbial squirrel in the face with a 40mm cannon. Even if they win, they will spend more than they get in repairs.

I don't care if you say I'm griefing you because I'm stopping you from playing your CIG approved play style.... I just don't care.

Next up, our favorite.

>You're assuming there will be player pirates and that's unlikely. The players pretending to be pirates want to kill you... that's their main game. They also want an unfair fight where you don't have a chance so they have no risk. Taking your cargo is something they grudgingly do to pay the in-game bills.

No no, its not that bad, you just need to be an ethical pirate!

>Excessive damage to a ship (or damage to things you don't really need to be shooting at), or harming anyone who doesn't have a weapon out, triggers rep loss among the ethical outlaw communities and sharply affects your 'professionalism' rating.

Come on son, don't you want to impress the other pirates by being ethical? The empire was built on ethics y'know.

I really want someone with an LTI hull to just crash into these people and when they get angry say you're RPing a drunk driver
>>
>>154760280

Reminder that this is what space dads actually believe

>I want to be a trader, and while the thought of encountering pirates is worrisome, I love the idea of being dragged out of QD and seeing a group of pirate ships that outgun me, but instead of getting incoming missile warnings and the like (which would potentially destroy my cargo anyways lol) I get a notice that we're being hailed, and a player's voice over the comms actually says, "Surrender your cargo or face the consequences. We will destroy you if you try anything. If you surrender we will board you, take your cargo, and let you be on your way."

>Then of course as a trader I could try to kill them when they boarded, or take hostages which would make their friends less inclined to open fire, etc. Or I could give up the cargo.
>>
>>154759869

While i get this sentiment the one thing that will make the game boring is 100% psycho or 100% ethical. Games need a mix otherwise its a button pushing simulator that only a german could love.

The dads only see the 100% psycho outcome.

Times do change. When you need your goods to be safe against environmental factors, below deck is pretty good. When you don't have to worry about it, like you don't with modern container ships where all the protection and temperature control is part of the container itself, maximizing efficiency is the better deal. That's also why we use mostly covered trailers on the roads, they're not large enough to contain the same containers ships use.

I'm probably putting this in a way that doesn't make sense or seem right to anyone but myself, but fuck it.

Different ships for different jobs is mostly the answer to that. The Hull series was designed and produced to be the keystone of UEE logistics. They ply the common trade lanes specifically because they're the safest and forgo some cargo safety for the purposes of transporting as much as possible. The Starfarer, Caterpillar, and Freelancer are the ones with an emphasis on making sure the cargo is protected to the maximum it possibly can be.

>>
>>154766043
A centrifuge is a lot more natural gravity than the equivalent energized space-magic-plates. In order for the said space plates to feel more natural they'd have to be oriented around a center of mass, with spherical decks surrounding it. The gravity generator would also have to work differently than it seems to in Star Citizen. Whether it feels exactly right is a matter for the LoreMakers, though.
>>
>>154766187
Maybe i would...

I guess the takeaway is that we don't really know how these gravity generators and plates work in-universe, so we can't say exactly what it is they do, other than "create a gravity-like effect." In any case, it doesn't actually have to feel different for people to start yelling about how it's bad for you and centrifugal generation is how you keep healthy. We have all sorts of fad diets these days with the same amount of dubious "scientific studies" about their health benefits.
>>
gravity generators presumably don't suffer from the gradient problem of centripetal gravity, which is what required rings to be so large in the first place, the ones on port olisar are borderline too small
>>
>>154766331
That argument never worked when I applied it to the freelancer
>>
>>154766853
Why are you, I was content with space hipsters then you have to try and justify it by raping actual physics and making the gravity gens worthless.

Even if they're not 1g you're not going to run into the other problems with pseudo gravity that will make it feel unrealistic.

>>154766929
I wasn't complaining about hipsters, I was complaining about pseudogravity being somehow better than actual gravity. They're not based on magnetic boots so unless they use space magic to make notbutveryclosetogravity they'll be inferior.

If they break how would the rings help with anything? You actually need to be in them for the centripetal force to work on you and act like gravity.

Not that it matters anyways the entire universe is full of plot holes.

We have gravity in even the smallest ship crawlspaces like the aurora and mustang meaning we have some source of generation for it projecting across the interior. Why aren't we creating gravitational holes outside the ship for the entire mass to fall toward negating the use for conventional drive systems?

Why does inertia black pilots out yet anyone standing inside the ship feels nothing at all?

Why are turrets in such awkward positions where they can't really converge or cover each other's field of fire? For that reason why are there men in them? We've had remote control turrets since 1942.

Why are all the cockpit areas covered in huge windows? On fighters I can understand, bit on Large multi-crew ships? Even if it's futuristic expensive space glass would it not be better relegated to a small observation bubble while sensors do the real work?

For that matter wouldn't sensors pick up any any infrared source flying around as the ambient background of space sits around 2.7 Kelvin. It's big and empty too so anything floating around reflecting radar or ladar pings would warrant investigation.

The entire universe acts like a fisher-price version of the future. It's been 71 years since WW2 ended and a lot of the design doctrine we used back then is now ancient history, nevermind 200 years in the future.

The rings have a radius of around 350m from bottom of the ring to the center. This means that, in order to generate a single g of comfortable gravity they'd have to be spinning at around 59 m/s, or about 1.6 rotations per minute.
>>
>>154769115
That is very fast.

this is how the new breed of pirate carebears actually thinks
>>
>>154774073
Federal one is military looking and flat with a big gap in the middle for launch bays, the Imperial one is big white and looks like a cruise liner. The other way to tell them apart is the cz ruiner will make it so the only ships left are fed and everything else will untag you and the Imperial one might as well be a piece of geometry for how effective it is.

You rout them by destroying all the heat relays and that gets you a 150k combat bond.

Also the Fed one looks neato.

PROTECTORATE FOR THE BANUS, CONFEDERACY FOR THE XI'AN, EMPIRE SPACE FOR EVERYBODY!

Everybody says there is this SPECIES problem. Everybody says this SPECIES problem will be solved when the third world xenos pour onto EVERY human planet and ONLY onto human planets.

Persei and Terra are just as crowded as Rihlah or Trise, but nobody says Rihlah or Trise will solve this SPECIES problem by bringing in millions of Vanduul and quote assimilating unquote with them.

Everybody says the final solution to this SPECIES problem is for EVERY human planet and ONLY human planets to “assimilate,” i.e., submit to unfavourable trade agreements, with all those non-humans.

What if I said there was this SPECIES problem and this SPECIES problem would be solved only if hundreds of millions of humans were brought onto EVERY banu planet and ONLY onto banu planets?

How long would it take anyone to realize I’m not talking about a SPECIES problem. I am talking about the final solution to the BANU problem?

And how long would it take any sane banu to notice this and what kind of psycho banu wouldn’t object to this?

But if I tell that obvious truth about the ongoing program of genocide against my race, the human race, transitionalists and respectable centralists agree that I am a messeritewhowantstokillsixtymilliontevarin.

They say they are anti-xenophobia. What they are is anti-human.

Anti-xenophobe is a code word for anti-human.

this makes me wonder, will grimhex be staying where it is, on a moon in the stanton system? the stanton worlds are pretty core to human space, so if pirate bases can spring up in the gaps in control right in the heart of the empire, the concept of 'safe space' is kind of moot. is it the intention that entire systems core the the UEE be entirely safe and more or less impenetrable for the lawless, or that there be strings of comm-surveilled and patrolled safe routes within systems, with the areas off the beaten path still being somewhat wild?

Grimhex is a fuckin asteroid mining station.

And why not, I wouldn't mind if each system had some kind of pirate base, perhaps make them smaller or even non-existant for very important systems like Sol and Terra.

>Earth-born Murray Cup racer [REDACTED], 27, was jailed for two days for the crime of "floating his ship in a racist manner" last July. After waiting 3 months to try the case, the UEE Arbiter Commission finally convicted [REDACTED] yesterday of xenophobia and disturbing the peace and fined him 150,000 UEC.

>A UEE enforcement official, Lt. [REDACTED], said [REDACTED] had floated his M50 racing ship especially close to a Xi'an tourist who was in orbit around Terra. After [REDACTED] dismissed the Xi'an's concern by tipping his visor and flying away backwards, Lt. [REDACTED] immediately pursued [REDACTED] arrested him by force without formal charges. [REDACTED] explained that his flying was nothing to do with the Xi'an, rather, he was keeping his temperamental and expensive maneuvering thrusters from stalling.

I can't help but feel like this game would be so much better if you picked a side like WoW, i.e. pirates vs citizens. Then you wouldn't be able to get teamkilled by griefers if you were a pirate, and you had your own areas that you controlled and could only venture in to UEE space if you were with a big group to take on citizens.

At the moment the people hanging out in low-sec space risk getting trolled. No honor among thieves, etc.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons questions since i'm still new to this.

Can someone explain that in how base missions needed to kill 8 sentry skimmers are supposed to be finished? Finally some missions worth 1.2 mil. Which to someone new like me is a mini fortune.

I fly a cobra, a ship I love and you can't strafe since the base SAM missiles kill you very quickly. On the ground in a SRV I can crawl up kill the turrets and get a couple of sentries at least at range

But holy hell the ships doing defense are broken or something. This eagle has incredible damage resistance more than any I've seen in RES sites with pulse lasers as weapons. Then in an SRV it has an ENDLESS supply of dumbfire missiles and other weapons a low hard point Eagle should never have since it had pulse lasers in the air. And obviously the SRV turret can't even dent the shields.

I've heard smuggling is a money maker but I don't know how to do that yet and guides are very vague.

With ships costing up to 250 mil how to people get that much? I wouldn't mind having 300 mil for a ship.

Why are people on the forums terrified of piracy? I've never seen people shitting themselves over something that basically doesn't really exist yet.

He already has. Every time carebear questions come up he mocks them. Remember, he started with fighter games and values PvP as an integral part of his game.

Because they the type of people that want to play a certain way, regardless of the fact that this is supposed to be an MMO. So even if a player organization has complete control over an area, they think they'll still be entitled to everything that is there.

Essentially they're forumdads.
>>
>>154789994
Couldn't they play the PU single player? Or stay in UEE space where security is heavier?

Surely they don't expect to be able to waltz into Grimhex and spider unmolested do they?

I doubt they can do that when the game actually launches. Unless you mean SQ 42.

Well yeah, they could. But like I said, they think they're entitled to see everything without any opposition. And yes, they do expect to be able to waltz into Grimhex without so much as a scratch. >As I piloted my Gladius closer, a Hornet, having recently left the facility, passed by me in the opposite direction, roughly 5000 km away. A safe distance, in these parts. When I had finally arrived at my destination, strafing up over the horizon of the rock formation protecting the mining facility from outside onlookers, I quickly identified two things; first was a landing zone for me to set down my ship, and the second was another Hornet, hovering over the facility and staring right at me. I immediately halted, preparing for a fight to just enter this hollowed out rock; but the Hornet didn't move, and I slowly approached and landed without any incident. As I scurried to find the entrance, having no prior knowledge of any sort of firearm prohibition (a'la Port Olisar), I noticed that the Hornet, now moving, was still pointed directly at me, now on foot, running through the corridors to find the entrance. Finally, after an excitingly uneventful five to ten minutes; I had found, landed, and entered into Grim Hex, where weapons were not permitted to be used inside of the facility.

But lets look at it seriously. So far we've been "promised" a so called "safe space" that will be used as starting area.
Now what ? You do 3 jumps and suddenly you're in low sec, surrounded by pirates ?
Nah, I think the safe space will be bigger than that, allowing a wide margin action, and most importantly there will most likely be "mid" sec sectors where missions will give better rewards etc.
Plus we're talkink about a procedurally generated universe so I think being "ganked will be a rare and unlucky experience.
Worst can happen to the low sec zones is no one goes there except pirates and it degenerates into pirate orgs eating each others while the rest of the game couldn't five a flying fuck

With the world being as they aim it to be I don't think the chances of meeting one person (outside of the big centers obviously), and the chances of that person being out to kill you, will be big enough to be worrying

If security is implemented properly, this should not be an issue. Aside from potentially having ambushes out in the middle of space. Remember, these games are supposed to be Space Wild West for the most part.

There is solo and group play because the retarded griefers of olde forced UO devs to trammelize it, and all other MMOs followed suit, when they understood that part of the online gaming community is not playing games because they enjoy fun, but because they enjoy playing people who enjoy playing games.

It took me a while to figure it out.

I started playing Elite thinking it would be a good game. I wanted to become this bad ass bounty hunter. I just wanted to setup in one of the super populated systems and take on any pirate, murderer, or any other player being a dick to others.

Then I got about 300 hours into the game. My dream was never realized.

I never became this famous guy that protected Lave non-stop and made millions of Credits protecting my home.

I never made friends and enemies camping out in supercruise keeping watch over Lave.

Has the game gotten better with time? Yes.

Has it become the game I wanted? No.

Currently dogfighting and missions, but cargo is coming in soon. Have a look at the Avenger, it's a tiny bit more costly for the package but I think you'd like it. Good dog fighter with walking space on the inside, cargo space, and a bed

>>
>>154802870
Currently reset satellites, shoot fools with small and large arms, explore Yela, and explore a spooky-ass space station.

>>154803002
While the Avenger is a good ship, you should probably buy the $60 Aurora package and then upgrade it to what you want so you get Squadron 42 and Star Citizen for the lowest cost possible currently possible.
>>
>>154802870
Right now there are some missions you can do and you can also shoot pirates and other players, bounty hunting, shopping for clothing and weapons. With 3.0 there will be cargo hauling, trading, a bit of salvaging, procedural planets, so there will be vehicle combat as well.

You think the Freelancer Max is worth it?

What I want from a ship is basically a mobile home/space truck to live and work in and use as home base for my various activities.

I'm not crazy about dogfighting though I want weapons. Most of the kind of stuff i'd do is maybe cargo hauling, smuggling, bounty hunting etc.
>>
So are you able to obtain more/different ships in the game? Or is the only way to buy them in the shop?
>>
>>154803658
I'd pick up the Aurora package and wait for the Herald to be available in November (or before that) and upgrade the Aurora to it, I think you'd like it.

Arena Commander lets you earn credits that you can use to rent ships. But only in arena commander right now.
>>
>>154803658
The hands-down best mobile home is the Mustang Beta, but it has next to no cargo capacity. The Freelancer isn't the comfiest ship around, but as a defensible space truck it's pretty perfect.

>>154803869
The only way currently to get ships and equipment in Crusader is to play Arena Commander, get REC, then use that REC to rent ships and equipment from the RSI website.
>>
>>154803869
You can get every single ship in the game and nobody will be able to buy ships (beyond starter ships that come with the game) after the game enters Beta.

So as an EDfag I have the grind creds for new ships thing burnt into my brain. In SC it seems some people have bought lots of expensive "end-game" ships (for want of a better term). So I guess they won't need to earn credits (beyond what is needed to run and maintain them).

What goals will there be for those people to work towards? Or will there be another credit sink to pour profits into?
>>
>>154804227
Imagine it as just starting the game with any ship from ED with just the base components.

You still get all the credits to actually kit it out properly, and even then there's a lot of ships with multible upgrade paths and secondary roles.
>>
>>154803958
>>154804007

I think the Freelancer is right for me. I want something roomy with cargo capacity but something I can fly on my own from point A to B. I'm not really looking for a fighter, more of a flying house/hauler I can go around hunting bounties with.

My main aim is to do a lot of tricky shit, sleuthing and spying on foot anyway unless I can outfit my ship of choice with equipment to help with it.
>>
>>154804552
That sounds good to me then, grab the Aurora pack and either upgrade it or buy the Freelancer on top.

Although fyi, there's a dedicated stealth/boarding ship coming soon-ish that sounds right up your alley. Look out for the Prowler when it eventually reaches us.
>>
>>154804227
All ships you buy right now are stock hulls. You'll need to get equipment to get the ship to perform on optimal level. Plus, two different fuel types, ammo, repairs, all that shit cost money. Also, ships will age and break from long use anyway.

He's not wrong. Right now, it is far too easy to club as many people as you want. System security is a joke and with the advent Ftroop throwing ship balance out the window with Engineers, it is incredibly easy to interdict someone with the bugged interdiction mechanic and alpha strike them before they can react, or do the same except camping outside of a star port. In SC playing the game will presumably be the point. But running a higher tier ship will be costly, very costly. You'll be "grinding" to pay for doing things that don't make money. Like failed raids or incursions?? Also to kit out your ships with top tier equipment, which you lose if your ship is asplode.
>>
>>154807218
>watching an ape documentary

>>
>>154804227
Unlike in ED where you can man a federal corvette all on your own, this size of ship would require at least a few friends to man properly in SC, let alone actually fight with and defend against boarding actions. The first day of the PU being active with everyone's pledge ships the forums will be filled with complaints of people who took their idris or polaris out on their own and got killed and captured by a small group of pirates.

Unlike Elite which simulates the emptiness of space and the futility of personal action, resulting in the end goal of owning every ship and being filthy stinking rich so you don't actually have to do anything because nothing in the game is fulfilling, SC will be a game about actually playing the game and enjoying it. Despite Chris' autistic drive for FIDELITY and jokes about the game not being out until 2033 he's making a game, not a tech demo that might be a game 10 years down the line.

Since you got BTFO let me explain why praising DS at any point is a bad thing.

You see DS has helped create what he has identified as a problem. the "cultish" mentality, because of his constant attacks and retarded blog posting as well as ineptitude for explaining any type of criticism, we now have a community of xenophobes, as well as a scapegoat. This is directly because of that mental midget. Because of his sustained attacks by DS and his army of 10bux they were forced to have a cultish mentality a "if you aren't with us you are against us" and now any criticism whether warranted or not now has to be "community approved. It's because of this dick shiner that any type of constructive criticism is met with so much hostility. When you put a group of people under constant attack they are going to stop trusting any outside sources.

Nowadays its incredibly difficult if not outright impossible to lay legit criticism on SC because of that failed ball juggling joke of a game designer and his merry band of retards.

This is why praising him for anything just makes you out to be a 10 bux ball worshipping derek smart faggot.

;tldr you are a faggot of the highest caliber and should end yourself as soon as possible for worshipping at the church of derek smart

Anon, why are you so upset over people yanking money out of CIG's coffers? I thought your lord and savior, Chris Roberts, has all the money in the world?
>>
>>154825719
Since you are retarded,I will try to explain this one final time. The goons started this shit parade in the first place, by constantly attacking the community when they felt RSI wasn't giving them the dicksucking they felt they rightfully deserved and when their takeover plan didn't happen, when they couldn't get their way and tried to take their ball and go home, they piled onto the the retardmobile that derek smart fucking drove. Due to his and their effforts an incredibly insular and xenophobic community has been created as a result (the games press certainly did not help either.) Now no legit complaints or criticism cannot be leveled at the game unless it follows the fairly stringent requirements that they have caused to happen. I know this is probably too many words for your 12 year old brain but get a dictionary or something.

;tldr GOONS AND DEREK MAKE IT SO YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT SC.

Hopefully that's small enough words so you can understand.

I'm going to stop shitposting pretending to be a refundee for a moment and give a quick tl;dr for the record.

What happend is as follows; We tried to get a player council, like in Eve, into Star Citizen and CIG didn't allow it. We had several members of the community either in popular Orgs (eg: Imperium) with a position of power or just contributing in some way (Beer on Reddit, Goredema to a lesser extent on RSI but he constantly fucked it up). When CIG destroyed any possibility of a player council that we could fill with our members and guide decisions for the community in our interests, we kicked off. Cue Gamergate drama, which fucked up. Cue Derek Drama, which honestly we don't even care about anymore it's just fun pushing his buttons and watching him react. Most of the people who are "Supporting" Derek at this point are unaffiliated to Goonrathi or are part of the othersides during the Gamergate drama.

>I mean criticising the game with the dads on patrol would be hard enough, but now you have to open every critique with a full paragraph stating your dedication to the project and cite your level of buy in just to avoid being dogpiled by the overzealous SC defense force.

It's why the game will ultimately fail as a MMO. This will discourage people outside the bubble. But then again, these people have proven that they can be fleeced over and over again, so who knows. I doubt it will be as big as everyone think it will be with such a niche following. The words "minimally viable" have already been spoken by the failed director already.

It's called the Faction-9 Baton. It's "lethalty" depends on how hard you hit them.

>The FACTION-9 from RRS has quickly become the nonlethal stun baton for working Hunters and Law Enforcement alike. Capable of delivering over 9mVolts, the Faction-9 will incapacitate most living things, human or no. Military grade aluminum alloy construction make the Faction-9 a game-changing weapon even if you aren’t using a charge. The textured rubber grip will insulate you from accidental discharges and also comes with a ballistic holster.

I don't know about the community, but the game itself is shit. I love twitch shooting in games where it belongs, but mechwarrior was never about headshot bullshit like MWO is, it was about firing a massive ordnance in the general direction of where you were looking and doing massive AoE damage. It's a damn shame.

Every time i see that pic i remember that there won't be any conclusion to only FPS worth playing for the story

It was also about feeling like you're piloting a huge piece of metal around. Mouse control kinda kills that for me.

Shame MW isn't up for sale on gog or something.

Anyone followed that turnbased game they're making? Just called it Battletech I think.

there is actually only one game on the disc, with Freeman fighting his way to the Borealis a full feature-length saga, there meeting Chell, spending roughly 60 hours eluding whatever horrors await there, and on escape falling in with a ragtag group of unlikely survivors fleeing the zombie-like creatures unleashed from Aperture's stolen and reverse-engineered Black Mesa portal tech
