there's a good amount of dlc now than there was at launch, and there is a enormous rabbit hole of mods on the international list and even more (ok, I'm exaggerating not really) on twitter which some japs are generous enough to post w/o password crap/dick sucking. If you can think of something, then it (probably, 40/60 chance) exists as a mod.

Faces and hair is kind of hard to talk about, the selection is still sort of smaller than AA2's. But yeah to answer your oriiginal question, as a tl;dr it is highly depend on mods.

It's much more comparable to 3D Custom Girl. AA2 was never meant to support mods and as a result most of them have to be worked in somehow.

3D Custom Girl and Custom Maid 3D 2 were both developed with community content in mind so it's much easier to expand them. Plugins are the only things that really require any thought. The majority of CM3D2's mods are drag and drop.

Really helps that the game's made in Unity too. Some Japanese modders have been able to use scripts to make their own VIP scenes even.

So recently when opening my CM3D2 the game shows a black screen with the fps in the top left and the options button in the top right, nothing else

closing the game gets an error that says "contact the developer yadda yadda"

I remember I got this error before and a complete reinstall fixed it but I don't want to reinstall all over again when someone here probably knows what is wrong.

Updates don't overwrite newer files. You'd only have to worry about updates messing up Reipatcher, but even then you can just repatch(or just reinstalling the HF Patch if you don't know how).

I got distracted. This applies as general advice for anyone having startup problems, though.

Did you try booting after each stage? Delete/backup UnityInjector, Reipatcher and Sybaris and update to latest patch again by copying the stuff in its data folder across to the CM3D2 root folder. That pretty much creates a fresh install, breaks the HF patch interactions.

See if it boots. Install HF patch, see if it still boots, then do the Reipatcher/Sybaris thing in the pastebin and see if that works. Go with a fresh Sybaris rather than the AIO or your current one. If that works, drag some mods and plugins over into it until something breaks.

If it doesn't boot from the first step then I dunno, tech gremlins.

Best to be fully awake and have time to deal with it, yeah. Messing around with untangling and rebuilding the install juggling three windows of folders can get annoying and suck up some time.

90 minutes just to install sounds like a lot since it took far less to me, but is it worth the hassle? I think so.
You can manipulate every part of the character's body, from the shoulders to the head proportions, to the hips, etc. Every part of the body, from the skin to the eyes and hair, has a free color slider. There's a great variety of hair styles and eye types as well.
The biggest limitations in my opinion are two: the clothing choices is somewhat limited and, without the right mod, the proportions are mostly limited to females or feminine boys.

I use the Editor to design my own characters since it helps me visualize some combinations and try out different elements. Maybe that could be of use to you as well.

believe it was this one, look for them in the usual accessories tab that every jap likes to throw in for some reason. Note don't spawn from MM, it replaces the char body so you'll get a sitting skelety you can't pose if you spawn in MM.

That should have eliminated mod/outside influence which was always what made it lock up for me so no idea. Can check the debug that loads with Sybaris to see if you can get any sense out of that but probably just try a clean install with save and presets backed up will be the quickest and simplest.

If the base game works from new with KISS patches, back it up before adding HF patch and such.

To rotate single joints hold ALT and press and hold either SHIFT or CTRL.

ALT = rotate wrists or ankles
ALT + SHIFT = rotate arms or legs at shoulder or hip
ALT + CTRL = rotate joints like elbows or knees
CTRL = independently move arm or leg

When markers are off you can still rotate wrists and ankles the old fashioned way by holding ALT and SHIFT.

Most of the things you could need/want are in the OP. Hongfire has links to the same stuff. It'd be a really good idea to make a copy of your install as a backup before you go any further.

The Sybaris + Reipatcher guide's recommended. It gives you English translations from the Hongfire patch and support for some of the better Japanese plugins through Sybaris.

Once you have that installed and working take a look at the International Mods list. Most all of the game's mods are listed there(though some of the newest ones aren't.)

If you're feeling particularly adventurous/know how to read Japanese or use online translators you could check out the Japanese wik's plugins page:

You're better off learning how to use MM if you want to spawn anything in as props. Picture mode is good for glamour shots, but MM has a lot of features which makes it very worthwhile once you understand it.

If you really want to spawn items into picture mode, you'll have to see if that item transforms maids into the item in customize. The transformed maid can be spawned into picture mode as a pseudo prop.

This OP is one big Dragon Quest reference. In the original DQ games when a party member dies you end up having to carry their coffin behind you until you can reach a church to revive them. Oneechan Maid, who in this picture is the Warrior class, was the only member of her party of four to survive their last battle so it's up to her to bring everyone back to life. I wanted to do a little more with this but was a bit pressed for time. Having them say, fighting a large slime would have meant having to find appropriate mods for weapons(axe for warrior, mace for priest, etc.) and posing those as well. However, with all of the blank space I was able to fit in a healthy amount of quotes and images so I'm glad I didn't make it as elaborate as I originally intended.

How do I get good at posing?

Everything is so overwhelming, even the most basic posing takes me forever, and it feels like I can't come up with something that does my maid justice.

Focus on getting the basics of things like Z moves the maid around, ctrl moves limbs with locked knee/elbow before worrying about getting too deep into it.

When you want to fine-tune something, fiddling with the micro detail will teach finer controls like fingers on its own. The joint highlight MM has now is really helpful for that.

Learn all of the keys related to posing. There's some listed in the hotkeys guide (http://pastebin.com/2d28rY0y) and even more listed in MultipleMaid's readme files. I'd like to translate it all at some point though there really is a lot. For now the best you can do is learning the shortcuts by trial and error. As you master the basics, simple posing'll become easier for you and take less time. Basics are something that everyone has to muscle through though.

There's two things I do to help me with my posing.

First, I try to think of the models ingame the same way you'd think of an action figure or doll. Most of the poses you could make with one are possible. Just messing around with an action figure is enough to get an understanding of joints and body parts make up a pose.

Second, for really complex poses I get out of my seat and try making the pose myself. This is to get an understanding of just how much a body part needs to rotate in order to get the desired effect. Things like center of gravity and placement can all be felt if you act out the pose yourself. Of course, once you get a feel for those things you no longer have to, though it can be a bit fun at times.

Visible axis control with joint markers enabled is the best thing ever, twisting wrists through blind trial and error on X and Y axis until they went the right way was awful.

This even simplifies it for people that might be daunted by the controls, much more user friendly. Just hold alt and manipulate the axis lines rather than ctrl-alt for X and ctrl-shift for Y or whatever it is.

Honey Select and CM3D2 appeal to similar, but different audiences. Perfectly fine for people to play both. Doesn't have to be one or the other. By the looks of it Homuha anon, Haruki poster, and Alice anon have all recreated their characters using Honey Select yet are still producing CM3D2 content.

Admittedly, if you're not keeping up with the Japanese CM3D2 sites you might perceive that there isn't anything going on even though there is.

The CM3D2 English plugin is outdated, however.

Most of it just comes from understanding how to use blender and how menu files work. You can be as complex as you want or as simple as you want. No need to hack anything, replace anything, reserve slots, or so on.

If there are errors, the game or blender will usually tell you why. Most of the time, it's because textures are missing or aren't referenced correctly, bones are incorrect, or messed up the shaders.

If you're modifying existing mods, then you shouldn't run into too much problems since almost everything has been set up. You'd need to edit the menu file and change some names if you wanted to make an extension or stand-alone edit of that mod.
