This is the party right now. Nevermind the FF7 synergy items, I'm clearing a few elites over there.

Basch has AS and SSB, Bartz has Chocoromp and BSB. Tyro has SG, there's the good old Medica user and agrias with Kaiser Shield.

Would I be looking into replacing Agrias with Faris, giving Tyro shellga and making Faris the main breaker? How would she fit in?

You will get more than 3000 magicite during these 30 days if you never let it hit the cap, but gold openers (and openers in general) are worthless, especially because 4th panel costs are nothing compared to 5-8th panels and you get +500 seeds per run from exploration areas. A new costume for Echo is a far better way to spend that extra magicite.

My method of grinding is running circles around the Red Dragon's zone in Silent Ruins with rental Yunas. I'd like to replace the Aero card but there's a water shaman/sorcerer combo that occasionally shows up and manages to out damage me. Is there any way I can improve on this desu?

I literally just got chompcrafting which is like right at the beginning of the game. Its hard to really say, but shes a suitable replacement to Ringabel I think. Yew is annoying as fuck, which I suppose would be the replacement for the annoying as fuck Anges except she's also still around. This whole scene hits so hard. Reality hitting Tidus like a goddamn truck, all the loathing, the track backing it up quite nicely helping the despair and hopelessness to set in.

Also the fact that the Wendigo show there with Valefor made me just realize that the shit that went down in Luca was all Guado doing, summoning Fiends so Seymour could look good. I almost forgot that the Guado can summon fiends but the Wendigo in there was a good reminder about what these fuck did way earlier in the game.

The guy in the first slot gets targeted 50% of the time by enemies in FFI. The one in the second slot gets targeted 25% of the time, and the last two each get targeted 12.5% of the time. So you stick your tanky Fighter in the first slot.

There's no indication of this in the game and I'm not even sure if the manual mentions it, but it's kinda the precursor to the Rows that other FF games use.

Which mainline FF is the shortest? I've started them all but never finished any because I end up burning out/getting distracted by another game.

Try to save magic use for when he's going to hit 50% or 10% if you have a few mages or need healing to bypass the meteor counter by him using the health based one instead.

If you're just doing the story and don't get caught up in grinding, probably something like 1 > 2=4 > 3 > 5=6 > 7 > 9 > 8 > 10 > 13 > 12 > 14 > 11

Spin-offs and sequels vary but usually skew shorter than main games post NES, though the Tactics games are usually pretty lengthy, maybe somewhere between 13 and 12. 14 and 11 are of course longest because of being MMOs.

And most of these can be completed waaaaaaaaaaay sooner but that's just thinking about a first playthrough that's looking around and reading/listening to/watching everything without a guide.

Junction is fine. It's only a chore if you are unskilled at efficient resource management. Casting spells is good in some situations and the game leaves it to the player to decide when the stat reduction and resource loss is worth the extra damage - that is good design. The GF ability junctions are a nice mix and really let you get far ahead of less knowledgable players - that is good design.

I don't have XP RMs so that's out of the question, I try to run with 4 characters instead of 5 so not lose medals while trying to maximize XP.

Wrong. It's obvious in casual play that GFs confer the ability to change items to magic. If you know that, the rest can be found through simple investigation - (cards to items, items to magic).

Knowing which cards to mod without a guide or multiple playthroughs is probably impossible the first time, but I don't see that as an issue in design. Greater knowledge should result in greater rewards - in this case, much faster development and less time wasted on draws.

There's not much you can do, it's slow. The orb fest events really lets you spend a lot more time grinding for a similar amount of XP, and gets you a lot of orbs as well. You are kind of out of luck until another one hits. I would say just try to spend your growth eggs wisely until you can put together parties that can clear up to ultimates.

Magic in 8 is pretty incredible mechanic, dude.

You have an offensive magic, like, Fire.
Junction Fire to Squall and he can cast "Fire" for fire damage.
If Ifrit is also junctioned to Squall, his affinity with that summon goes up (the stats and summoning speed).
Depending on how many "Fire" you have collected (out of 100), the increase to junctioned stat can vary.
Depending on WHICH stat "Fire" is junctioned to, that can also vary wildly given that "Fire" is an offensive type of magic to begin with.
If you happen to junction Fire to the Attack slot, every single physical hit now has a fire elemental property to it.
If you happen to junction Fire to the Defense slot, you will now inherently receive less damage from all fire-elemental damage. In same cases, completely negating or even absorbing the damage.


And that's just "Fire." The magic system in FF8 is really fucking good, duder. You just didn't like having to actually grind to get 100. Thing is, once you get 100...you don't have to draw or refine or ANYTHING for that magic ever again unless you specifically choose to cast it in battle. Then you can draw 9 more from a related enemy or refine it from an item or card. And not just Squall, but ANYONE can do it.

We see in the game that Zell was adopted by one family, Quistis by another, Irvine sent to another continent, etc. After the 10+ years of not seeing each other together with GF use, I can see them forgetting about each other.

There are some problems regardless, and I think the game lampshades some of them: Squall asks why Seifer never mentioned the orphanage once during their years together - everyone shrugs.

Steal time is not worth using IMO. Wasting a damage/debuff slot on a single target haste/slow. You can bring better things like Tempo Flurry or Slowga if you really need to slow something down.

Steal Armor could be worth your time if you have the right physical team setup. I never run it.

You idiots seem to be posting the example of Fire and Sleep like that is the extent of its depth. It was just the simplest example available. You are ignoring the aspects of what happens if you decide to use Fira or Firaga. If you have 100 Fire, 80 Fira but only 10 Firaga...what has the best effects? Is junctioning all 3 a good idea? Is that the only way to have BOTH fire attack and resistance? What happens to Ifrit? What stat makes the best use of that single magic compared to literally every single other magic? Is it supposed to have identical properties as Blizzard, Blizzara and Blizzaga when it comes to improving my Spd-J?

The IDEA is indeed very simple. Doesn't mean it lacks depth or the ability for creativity. And if you choose to actually use any magic, it may require improvisation on your part since you begin running low on your magic steroids. There are lots of enemies you can draw from, some have unique magic. There are draw points. There are items that refine into multiples of low-tier magics, mid-tier or perhaps singular high-tier magics. Cards, depending on their rarity, can also be considered a part of the junctioning system since their dual-purpose is playing a mini-game or item/magic refinement. You can even choose to upgrade low-tier magic into higher tiers as well.

Compared to just about every system in the franchise, especially compared to previous titles, it's not just unique and "simple" but also "challenging." If you want FF 8 to have good combat, it can fucking have good combat.

Pro-tip: if you hate sitting in battle drawing from enemies so much you end up hating the junctioning system...don't do that.
