Pretty much this. Sq42 needed a piece of shit starter ship for the first couple of missions so it'll actually feel like a huge upgrade when they finally allow you to fly the most holy and scared Hornet F7-PBUH. And the Gladius was the closest thing they have to a 'starter' fighter.

You can get rep with all three factions and it doesnt affect anything otherwise forum dads would cry. Alliance has dick all for ships so theres no reason to get alliance rep and i dont think they even have ascension missions.

Probably not. Some of the faction ships are nice, but the grind is intense at the moment. They will probably revise it soonish so maybe best not to bother right now.

A few system permits. Check the wiki permit page, it'll tell you if a system gives you anything worthwhile, like a discount.

God damn it. 3 chemical manipulator canisters that I found in a combat aftermath inside the sphere of influence of a planet are all falling towards that planet. My ship is also falling towards the planet and trying to catch objects that are accelerating is very frustrating.

As far as I can tell it's player combat rank or mission rank dependent.

Carrying random (modular terminals) cargo while being combat elite will result in interdictions from deadly to elite fer de lance/anaconda/fed asault ships. Carrying mission cargo from penniless to peddler grade mission resulted in eagle pirates.

What I was flying at the time didn't seem to matter, anaconda, asp, fer de lance. It's where I got the cargo or what my rank was that mattered.

For starters, missiles and torpedoes are different things. Comparing size isn't an apples to apples comparison, nor is it even accurate right now considering we've seen the Gladiator with those torpedoes on the external racks. (which it has four of, not two of, by the way)

You mentioned manouverability, but that definately is an issue. Freelancer is bigger and slower, which may just bite it in the ass fighting larger ships that can bring S5+ to bear on it. Neither of them are going to be directly engaging fighters without support.

Thing to remember is that the Gladiator is intended to be a dive bomber of sorts, against capitals it might not be as good as the Vanguard or Tali, against fighters it might not be as good as the 'lancer. But against ground targets I think it will have its place.

The Tali is a strategic bomber, or flat bomber, I would imagine it would be better suited for the role of a TU-160.

Personally if the Tali had some kind of bomb load instead of just torps I would use it against ground installations such as bases and landing pads.

Whereas a Gladiator is more of an attacker to be used against mobile enemy ground forces, similar to a Frogfoot or some such.

Some further explanation for those who haven't seen it ingame yet. The front bay has two of those launchers that hold two torpedos each. The entire middle is empty because fuck efficiency. The bay door opens and the entire torpedo gets lowered outside on a crane because spring-loaded release systems are apparently lost technology 900 years in the future. After firing it retracts and rotates the whole launcher 180° to prepare the next one. The rear bay just contains 2 cranes bolted to the ceiling that hold a single torpedo each, despite the layout of the bay being perfect for a rack mount.

Elite: Dangerous could've been such a good game, even if it just went straight space trucking simulator, but instead we got a half-assed 80s game with better graphics. Yeah the launcher could be a lot better, even if they stick with the same crane design they didn't have to make it so retarded, but eh, they mentioned there might be different Tali models like the B-1, B-2, etc so we might see some improvements with the later versions.

Why they wouldn't just stack them inside the bays is beyond me though. Someone probably thought it'd look cool to have the arms akin to something like the Sunderland's internal bays and all. problem is it makes no sense when your magazine holds just two torps that could've just as easily been stored in the bay itself with no manual reloads or anything.

The current layout is fucking retarded. Turrets purposely are unable to converge on targets. The majority of the ship interior isn't ordinance, instrumentation or anything useful. Instead, it's a bunch of fucking hallways. This is the farthest thing from a purpose built military design there can be. What's going to happen when the guy in the rear bottom turret realizes he won't get an angle of anything attacking him because of the terrible placement and that it's going to take him a good 30 seconds to get out of the turret , run to the front of the fucking ship, go up a ladder and then open a door to the escape pods?

He's going to die.

It's why we don't even bother with turrets anymore on bombers because the point of a bomber is to carry as much boom into enemy territory either:

Higher than enemy defence can reach.
Faster than enemy defence can react.
Undetectable by enemy defense altogether.

If you have to use the turrets it's already too fucking late. This is not proven as an aspect of gameplay in Star Citizen, but as a matter of fact with the real world equivalent; the B-17.

We lost a shitload of B-17's in the war until we realized guns weren't enough and they needed long range fighter support. The B-29 had superior turret coverage but it's turrets were a remote setup with men in sighting bubbles able to control and converge fire from multiple turrets on a single target. By the time the B-52, turrets were all but removed save from the tail in favor of larger payload, altitude advantage and fighter escorts. The aft turret on the B-52 now isn't even manned, instead replaced with automation that tracks and shoots down inbound radar signatures. The crew is almost entirely centralized in the front of the craft while weapons deployment is handled remotely.

This is what the Retaliator design lacks. Centralization, remote operation of systems, payload capacity, speed/stealth and most importantly, common sense.

How does everyone feel about this as an organization? We can probably say these squadrons are for hardcore pirates while we have one main squadron for casuals and another for inactives. The idea is to prevent the whole org from being sabotaged at once.

Can't really say anything about the roles or numbers of players, because thats kind of up in the air.

I assume the leaders of each squadron and the Lt are considered officers? How much say do the players outside the Council get? How much interaction is there between Squadrons? How much resources do they share? Because that would determine how robust it would be.
