Yeah, no. Institute proponents are deluded unless they play an SS that does actually agree with their methods. Mine does, and Far Harbor was amazing in that there was no stress with replacing the Atom leader, and reporting the rogue synths base. But tying to change them? Doomed from the start.

So, who did your SILVER SHROUD(!!!) side with in the MQ? I'm struggling to decide who is most fitting. I would say maybe the Railroad, if only because of how little affect it leaves on the wider world, but it involves murdering kids. Wheras the Minutemen requires also being a General, which kind of clashes with whole 'unassuming secret identity' theme.

We need an Unstoppables alternate path, where the Mechanist/Isabella Cruz builds the teleporter, and you do the entire MQ to stop the Institure as the Shroud.

Tryna justify becoming full raider after playing a neutral good Merc the whole game who did the peace ending. Figure after seeing all the failures of the Commonwealth group, plus dead wife and dead son, as well as trying to do the right thing in Far Harbor and seeing how much good intentions can become tainted I figure it makes a kinda sense.

Too bad I can't make the Minutemen and Raiders work together, but I never liked Preston much anyway the condescending prick.

So I stopped playing this a while ago but a combination of Survival mode being added and general boredom has caused me to try it again

IS it just me or is modding in 4 really finicky? My NV game has 100+ mods and no worse for wear but with 4 some of the installed mods work and others just don't work at all.

Also I wonder how hard it would be to be remove the entire frame mechanic and removable plates and just have them be very heavy outfit pieces again. Same animations, same size, but no frame to get in and out of.

Some siting animations and animations for all the crap you can't do in power armor would be nice too

Basically it's a Waldo rig like you'd see in film puppetry for controlling a puppet's hands or limbs.

I am still shocked that someone has yet to make a mod that turns all of Minutemen into Tacticool Operators. The various US Army and SWAT mods for the NCR in New Vegas was dope as fuck.

Still not the 50's, no, but Fallout seems to work on a design theory that while everything it largely 50's inspired, there's more modern ideas, cliches, and references kicked around here and there. Fallout 3 and 4 are much more closely associated with "the 50's" as an identity, but you get things like women serving in the infantry, seemingly friendly race relations, and other unusual stuff to suggest that in some places culture has moved past some of the hang-ups that would have been more prevalent in a setting purely devoted to what it meant to BE alive in the 50's.

It's kinda interesting.

Captain Marvel was female for a damn long time. Sometimes it's temporary but even if it's transitory, it still happens. Sometimes, it feels really gimmicky because to a lot of people the superhero is very closely tied to the identity of a single person, so for them, the hero and the "secret identity" simply aren't interchangeable. Sort of understandable, but plenty of comic fans realize that in a lot of cases superheroes aren't immortal, or don't always get updated with every new generation, and the torch really gets passed from one individual to another.

People that get the most upset about this tend to be (but aren't always) more casual fans, funnily enough. While it's a bit of a stretch with a more old-timey hero like the Shroud (who has a lot in common with The Shadow), Fallout 4 already references this sort of superhero switching not just with the female MC potentially becoming The Shroud but also The Mechanist. Original was a black guy (the one mentioned in the radio serial in the game seems to have nothing to do with the wasteland's Mechanist as he was originally a villain -- some inspiration might have been taken but still). And now it's a Hispanic girl. You could argue it seems unlikely but Bethesda seems pretty willing already to say "yeah, we can do that with our superheroes".

Yeah that's not really what that post implies at all, but your carefully worded argument is appreciated. The 50's stuff wasn't as in-your-face until 3. In 2 and 1 you had robots and computer technology based on that aesthetic simply to do something different and with a very alt-history feel to it, but when most loading screens directly referenced 90's comics (and a load of the game's look/humor/general style borrowed from more 90's pop culture) you come to realize that Fallout 1 and 2 didn't hinge on that design in the same way more recent games in the series have. Was it better? Is it worse?

That's a matter of opinion, really, but I don't think gravitating towards the 50's being more prevalent in its general style has hurt the series, and in fact has helped cement its fairly unique identity a little further in the public eye.

Ask pretty much anyone in the western world with half a brain what a santa suit or a superman costume means and you'll likely get a rough approximation of what sort of people the characters that wear those costumes are. Take it back to Fallout and think about what it would mean to make and wear those costumes. Is it explained anywhere why there is that much military presence in Nuka World ? I get that there was a cooperation between the army and Nuka Cola, but so far I've seen tanks, remains of soldiers in the treehouse that seemed very well equipped, and soldiers in Dry Rock Gulch that were, again, very well entrenched. Was there a garrison in or near the park ? Were the soldiers sent to evacuate the park ? The logs of the survivors in the Kiddie Kingdom don't mention the army IIRC.

And where is the park anyway ? Seems very desertic for a place within monorail distance of Boston.

They're trying to be new while staying true to the original designs. Quite admirable really, not a whole lot of non-anime games would have a 3rd person camera game with skin tight suit. I like the new suit, very classic without being bodypaint, and 3's vaultsuis were obviously styled more after jumpsuits than bodysuits.
