Decent analysis of how the series went wrong, I don't agree with everything he said but he successfully predicted a few things about ME3, such as the Sucide Mission meaning ME2's squadmates couldn't be important to 3's main story (other reviewers did as well, though, such as Seamus Young). His alternate ME2 ideas weren't great, and he thinks every literary device is a theme.

Did he ever finish his critique of 3/alternate ideas? I seem to remember he suddenly stopped and did other things when he was almost finished, but I haven't watched his shit for a long time.

Also she has a huge monotonous voice and seems like so powerfull that the fact that she wants your D seems artificial for all that she cares she could go on his own without noticing.

But then Tali is stablished as a strong character throught pure social need, but yet she needs you in her own projects, his technicall talents are constant and well regarded by everyone in the ship, along the games she is a character that actually have desires likes and dislikes and states them in a non-monotonous voice.

Also, that thing about the enviromental suits and the inmunological system being deficient makes her like something that needs to be protected and taken care from you, is just much more compelling.

The crew were so busy with their new companions that they didn't even notice a rogue frigate getting away with all the cargo.

Yearly reminder that Drew Karpyshyn's idea for the ending was that the Reapers were harvesting civilizations for material to reproduce and harvesting stars in order to combat the growing threat of Dark Energy hastening the heat death of the universe (that Tali mission with the dying star).

The dilemma at the end would have been that by destroying the reapers, you would be destroying the only beings intelligent and capable enough to reverse or slow down entropy - so it was sort of a bittersweet victory.

Maybe there's an inevitable descent into the opposite of the Big Bang (the Big Crunch) and the Reapers realise that the only way they can stop it is by using biotics, but since they can't use biotics they have to keep rebuilding society - as they try and find the perfect group to use biotics for this purpose. "Again it's very vague and not fleshed out, it was something we considered but we ended up going in a different direction."

The plot thread has become popular among hardcore Mass Effect fans as an example of a better solution than the widely-derided original ending, championed by Walters, the series' new lead writer. But Karpyshyn was keen to point out that his idea would likely have displeased some fans too.

"At one point we thought that maybe Shepard could be an alien but didn't know it."

"I find it funny that fans end up hearing a couple things they like about it and in their minds they add in all the details they specifically want," he explained. I'm a little weary about going into too much detail because, whatever we came up with, it probably wouldn't be what people want it to be."

Other ideas dropped earlier in the series included series hero Shepard turning out to be an alien, Karpyshyn continued.

"Some of the ideas were a little bit wacky and a little bit crazy. At one point we thought that maybe Shepard could be an alien but didn't know it. But we then thought that might be a little too close to [Knights of the Old Republic character] Revan."

Most intriguingly of all, Karpyshyn mentioned a discarded plot idea for the beginning of Mass Effect 2 that sounds similar to what Walters and the Mass Effect 3 team eventually chose for the trilogy's ending (er, spoilers):

"There was some ideas that maybe Shepard gets his essence transferred into some kind of machine, becoming a cyborg and becoming a bridge between synthetics and organics - which is a theme that does play up in the game," Karpyshyn concluded. "At one point we thought, maybe that's how he survives into Mass Effect 2."

According to the weight stats in 3, the basic Predator is half as heavy as an assault rifle like the Vindicator or Avenger, so like 2 kilos or so (which makes sense, the damn thing is bigger than a Desert Eagle). The Carnifex is even bigger. The heavy pistols have to be big and heavy, or else giving them as much punch as they do (damage per shot comparable to assault rifles, or beyond that in the case of the Carnifex, Paladin, etc.) would make the recoil energy completely unmanageable.

The heavy pistols being that powerful isn't just gameplay mechanics. The codex says that the Paladin provides similar punch to the assault rifles for example. The books and Paragon Lost feature several scenes of heavy pistols taking down shields faster than assault rifles and penetrating heavy body armor. Pistols in general are considered viable primary weapons and are noted in the codex to be effective against armor. Etc.

You need to make those guns stupidly large if you want them to be at all effective and not fly out of your hands whenever you try to shoot them. There's a reason the whole weapon class is "heavy pistols".

Same thing for all the stupidly large assault rifles, and all other guns for that matter. If they're not heavy, the recoil will be unmanageable unless you make them a lot weaker than they are.

In my experience that Mattock is pretty much the objectively best weapon in the game (except the mega-broken Harrier). Even if you're a Vanguard, it's slightly slighter and just kills shit faster than the Wraith because it doesn't have to be pumped every two shots, and reloads so quickly it may as well as not have a reload animationn. It's only better than the Mattock for killing minibosses quickly (and there aren't that many in SP), or one-shotting shielded enemies.

I use the Wraith + high-velocity barrel + choke + inferno rounds on my Vanguard playthrough more for aesthetics than anything else (and because my two squaddies are usually using the same weapon), since after MP the game is so very easy even on Insanity, so I can get away with a suboptimal load.
