Althoug interestingly Yennefer also fucked up there in doing the opposite of what Geralt would do. So who was right? What was the lesson? It depends on the definition of art being used. Everyone seems to have a different one. if anything that requires skill and creativity is art (as many hold, thus the "culinary arts" and similar things), then gameplay, immersion, etc, can all be art.

No. In fact the end of Hearts of Stone can be slightly different if you d it before finding Ciri. But Blood and Wine assumes you've beaten the game in dialogue even if you haven't.

Blood and Wine is set after the main story, so even if you play it before finishing the main story it will act as if you finished it anyway.

Hearts of Stone has some dialogue changes and a hidden ending if you do it before getting Uma.

The first is a bit ambiguous but you have to get three strikes to kill her. The second? It's practically "Help Ciri" vs. "kek ur on ur own lass" Only way to not get that one right is either you aren't paying attention or you're kind of an idiot.

Yeah I can see either way and I went with her the first time but I can also see why not going helps.

Quality of Ciri parenting choices in writing terms:

1. Lodge. Genuinely difficult choice with realistic consequences on her self esteem. The urge to protect your child vs. allow her to grow on her own is a very real struggle for any parent.

2. Avallac'hs lab. The writing itself is fine. The player either accidentally disregards and invalidates her feelings or turns what could have been a childish tantrum or brooding anger into a bit of fun. Unfortunately the prompts could give a much better indication of what would follow.

3. Kaer Morhen. Could have been a good choice but frankly it's way, way too easy to get it right. The choices basically amount to "I can help" or "I can't help".

POWER GAP

4. Skjall's grave. Only an idiot or someone that just hated Ciri and wanted her to suffer wouldn't take her. If you choose the obviously wrong option, Yennefer outright calls the player an autist for doing it.

5. Taking the coin. Just an autist trap. Nothing more to it.

But every now and then, you go to (or host) spectacular parties like that wedding. I mean where you got some people in the corner playing games/cards, people jumping in the pool, people who know how to dance dancing, an animal that has been smoking and roasting since noon, you've got a table full of charcuterie and sushi and a stocked bar, no bugs, sunshine until 8, and magically, everyone shows up on time at 4 and don't leave early.

Do you know how hard it is to gather dozens of people who show up on time and don't leave early - you can't even pull that off at most weddings. It's a fucking miracle but when you get enough of those people, maybe 30 of them; that's when you have a real party.

I thought the whole relationship thing with Shani was incredible, because throughout it all and in the end she was very rational about all of it. I just enjoy the social freedom that seems to exist at parties when you meet randoms and I like how the game gets it right in that way. Take the party you go to with Triss - seeing Dijkstra there and when you sass him about his mask he has a genuine laugh for once. Or shitkicking Lugos and having a drink afterwards. Or just going on a random competition/race with a bunch of drunk vikings for no other reason than to earn bragging rights. Or seeing that disappointed look on Yen's face as her boyfriend gets wasted - I've seen that before.

I thought it was nice and felt fairly real. As to the Vlodomir stuff...I dunno, felt a bit forced to me. It was funny sometimes but not incredible by any means. I blame Doug Cockle's acting. He's just not believable as anyone but Geralt. For me the best part of the wedding were the parts with Gaunter. The rest of the event was a perfect way to give that maximum impact. Those conversations would have been interesting if a bit forced exposition-y and predictable elsewhere, but in the midst of all that lighthearted stuff his deconstruction of Vlodomir was far more affecting.

I want to add that part of the reason I might not be crazy about the wedding like some people are is because I actually came on /wtc/ a little bit before playing HoS and it was constant gushing about how fantastic the wedding was. Maybe overhyped it for me.

We rented a house with a pool after we graduated to spend the summer in. We took drink orders from everyone to buy it beforehand; liquor, soda, and juice is cheaper when you buy in quantity not to mention we had tonnes of half-filled bottles from the school year that had to go.

The sushi was less than a hundred bucks for two massive platters; the meats and cheeses we sliced ourselves for less than a hundred. All in all the guys in the house spent around a hundred each between five guys.

We were knee-deep in debt but could afford to spend a bit on everyone. We had great jobs ready so it was fine. If everyone who showed up had McDonalds for dinner it could have paid for the sushi and meat and cheese. Nice food is not expensive if you buy enough whereas your drugs probably cost more per person than what we paid for the food.

Sort of? Let me explain...

In the books (and a tiny bit in TW1) yes.

Magic in this setting requires a source of the Power. Power is drawn from one of the four classical Greek elements. Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Each of these can be used by any mage, but they all require different techniques to draw on and utilize, so while any fully trained mage can use any of them, they tend to specialize for maximum effect. However, the source of the power is not tied to the effect. You can draw on Air to produce a fireball, if you want. Notable, when Ciri catastrophically draws on Fire in the books, she uses it to call down a massive rainstorm in the middle of a desert.

The only living mage whose specialty is confirmed in the books that I can remember is Yennefer's, who is a water mage. In TW1 Azar Javed is a fire mage, and in TW2 Dethmold is an air one. Personally, I think all this has great gameplay potential for a spinoff with a properly magical capable character or even a Ciri game, if done well.

Vlodimir's lines certainly felt forced and the voice acting wasn't great. I certainly could not take him seriously. And I admit it's not great.

But here's an added take on it - Geralt was a stranger to everyone there and that's why it was charming in a way. Some dude with an "accent" dropping dogshit lines that no local could get away with unless they were some foreigner or ponce royalty. It's kinda uncool if some local dances like an idiot, but when it's some foreigner, well then it's a fucking laugh. And Possessed-Geralt gets away with it because it's a party and you just cut weird people slack (especially Witchers, who might as well be mythological).

It's just charming to me. The line about falling from heaven was like some tongue in cheek joke to me that the writers were winking at me well aware they made him sound like some moron out of some "shitty two-crown romance" as Yen would say.

And that's partially why I felt Shani's behavior was very real. She knew this wasn't Geralt; she also knew Vlodimir was behaving like a charismatic party animal but deep down inside it was like a fairytale story and getting to live that even for a moment is appealing in its own way probably for many people. It's what fantasies are made of.

The Battle of Kaer Morhen was like a party to me. It was wonderful seeing all these people who otherwise would never talk to each other come together for Ciri. It was like it validated everything good about Geralt that these salty fuckers would come together for him. Roche and Ves begrudgingly with Letho. Lambert and Kiera hooking up was just perfect amongst all of it. And it can only happen in fucking video games.

I knew I was going to enjoy Elemental: War of Magic because it was by a based studio that truly cared about its customer base and made smart strategy games that were supported long after release.

There is something about being able to see each friend in a five minute walk amongst them that you can't achieve with just a book and doesn't happen in movies or TV, which usually just boil it down to a montage. And TV usually can't commit half a season of the main character chitchatting with their friends trying to bring them all together.

The people you gather, the relationships you develop with them took several books and two games to establish.

The Harry Potter books accomplished this with six books leading up to the final battle in the 7th. The Lord of the Rings had a staggering amount of background to take in to setup the final fight. The Avengers movie was setup with half a dozen movies before it. Angel got it done as well. But these are rare situations.

In video games, it happens all the time because we can use the medium to flesh things out excessively in RPGs. Everyone comes together all the time and sets aside their differences to achieve one goal. Square does it in practically every game it makes.

The end-game to winning all Gwent games is to out-spy them to death and use Decoy on the spies they use against you. The Northern Realms is basically the best at doing this.

But you're just beginning, so you have to depend on Weather cards until you get better cards. You just have to know when to time your Weather cards. Foltest will summon Fog to screw ranged units so you must know when to time it so you use it to maximum effect against the opponent. That means you only need one copy of Impenetrable Fog in your deck.

A common winning tactic early is to get the opponent to play one type of unit you have the weather effect for. This means over-extending in another category your opponent isn't building power in and waiting until they hit you with weather. Then you Clear Weather it and drop weather on their units. That will certainly get you a round. Biting Frost is probably the most common weather you will use as Foltest guarentees Fog and you have strong siege units so you don't want Torrential Rain that often if your opponent doesn't have many siege units.

Only have 22 regular cards in your deck and make sure only the powerful cards are there.

The new character vladimir played a major part in the earlly mission but he is VERY RUDE. Wow. Didnt really feel with Detlaff, they tried hard to protray him as human but every action he took was basically that of a base animal. Not that hes worse than the average witcherverse humans but Geralt there has killed people for far lesser.

That's just fucking bullshit. Blood & Wine was the most generic slog i've encoutnered relative to the Witcher 3. Outside of the scenery (that grows old fast due to the piss filter) the side quests were a severe let down compared to the vanilla experience, main story was completely boring (outside of Regis) and they somehow made Vampires fucking boring (80% of the quest line was hardly about fucking vampires, they completely messed it up) and over all, it was just pretty damn boring.

Fantastic OST though.

Shivering Isles on the other hand was a throwback to the sense of exploration in a truly alien land similar to what Morrowind achieved. Throw in the perfectly contrasting sides (Mania/Dementia), fantastic side quests (non of which felt like filler. That one side quest where you lead adventurers through the dungeon and decide their fate alone >>>>>>> literally ANY quest in Witcher 3) and even the main quest delivered with it's unique/original story telling, writing and antagonist.

The antagonist of B&W was an unmemorable faggot who was getting built up as "misunderstood" only for him to turn out to be a literal retard who got cucked by some girl.

Hearts of Stone >>>> Witcher 3 Base game >>>>>> Blood & Wine

Hearts of Stone was nearly perfect had it had more content (specifically side content) and I genuinely thought B&W would overtake Shivering Isles and Night of the Raven, for my favorite RPG expansion pack of all time but sadly, it was a huge disappointment.

They even fucked up the armor sets in the game, it did literally nothing right
