I'd raise issue with your point if you weren't completely fucking right. Poke put out an on-model FNAF2 story like three days ago as a thread request and got two replies, neither of which had anything to do with its content. Whenever he drops a new Roommates, on the other hand, it averages 8-10 replies and typically sparks conversation that lasts the entire length of the thread and sometimes well into the next. Hell, even Root and Sy, part of the thread's "big three" writefags routinely have to repost multiple times to get attention. On the other hand, even big-name drawfags here can post art and be ignored, so I guess it all depends on the crowd and how slow of a day it is.

I imagine method of consumption has a lot to do with it as always. Writefaggotry takes longer to read than a drawing does to look at, and the worse a story's written, the harder it is to absorb. Mistakes matter in writing far, far moreso than they do in art. Plus, I'd be lying if I said I haven't started reading stories written here only to quit out upon realizing they're laden with typos and dodgy formatting. A little proofreading goes a long way towards making your mark as a writefag.

The proper way to go about it is to write it and come back later; next day or so. That way what you just typed isn't stuck in your head and you can read the story for what it is. I just suck at it since I'm too self-critical; I end up rushing it like Scott rushed his past games instead.

If we're talking time-allocation the proofreading portion should take up 75% while the remaining 25% is spent pre-writing and doing the actual writing since it doesn't take long to get a general idea down.

After living with a friend who holds a wide collection of eyepatches, there's many ways for them to be worn and it all depends on the shape of the eyepatch 'patch'.

As for request specifics it depends. When it's really vague or based off of my own preferences then I get bogged down just due to the options. Being super specific helps with streamlining the details and figuring out the proper pose, but the quality drops because of how little freedom there is in the end result. The best results so far have been from anons who make a request with no more than a handful of characters doing something together.

Not sure of my preferences specifically for requests other than 'something simple but new' and 'something complex with characters that have been drawn multiple times beforehand.' Oh and also 'something dynamic' would be a reliable means of getting a request finished. If a request allows for some high-quality shenanigans then it's an outright boost in motivation. Some people just aren't good conversation topics. Usually they guys we end up talking about are the ones who put a lot of time into interacting with the thread. Like, I think Mango is pretty underrated, but they don't really talk with the thread much, and as a result they're pretty low profile. Another thing to keep in mind is how much we like to discuss lore and characterization. Beverage has been drawing for the thread for years now, and has always been solid when it comes to drawing one-off requests and the like, but none of his cast really displays any personality outside of whatever they need for that specific picture. His Chica is just a Chica. His Mike is a noodley security robot in a green hat. That's really all we know, and that's as far as he's ever really taken his cast. Writefag here. The interaction piece is tough for me. I'd *like* to interact more, but that ends up meaning an explanation of story elements, and that's anathema to me. I'm essentially the exact opposite of Ghost in that regard; I want the reader to take from a story (short or otherwise) what they take from it rather than having any elements directly explained.

Even a "wrong" interpretation is still a unique one that has value, and to me just feeding author intent to the content consumer makes it less palatable. No offense to Ghost, of course, this is just my take on the general nature of content creation/consumption.

It's also why I hate the fuck out of modern Hollywood, since every film lacks nuance and spoonfeeds the audience.

A wrong interpretation absolutely has value. That's why I make sure never to give my own insight in depth of a story until well after it's released and Anon had a chance to analyze it themselves and offer their own input and thoughts. Dust Bunny in particular I've seen some really interesting analysis of.

Beyond that, Anon thought and analysis sculped a majority of GhostQuest. I can't count the amount of times Anon has thought of something extremely clever or insightful about a character or the timeline and I didn't immediately think 'Oh, using that.' It's a major benefit to being an artsy fag on 4chan, you can directly get responses and input on quests and stories AS they are created, not just afterwards like with tumblr or DA or whatever.

I do have my own tone and ideas for each story from the start, but a lot of characters have shifted greatly thanks to Anon input. Hugest examples being Timothy, Oracle, Dusty, and Nightmare Foxy.

I think overall your writing and tonal consistency is solid. The only exception would be Ghostquest, which mostly suffered because many plot holes were explained away by "Because Them did it" and time travel, which is almost never a good thing for narrative cohesiveness. I'm also not entirely sure what Dust Bunny is actually supposed to be about, but whatever it is, it's an enjoyable read.

Let me do this in order of what you mentioned.

>Ghostquest
It started out as a slightly campy horror quest. Then the background elements of the supernatural were brought into prominence. That was okay, though, because the cause of the supernatural stuff wasn't explained. Then it was explained. You unironically pulled a Cawthon. Then the Factory happened, and the overall mood started to shift. I'd even go so far as to call the encounter with Unit .04 Ghostquest's "jumping the shark" moment. After that was the ridiculous hiatus, and when the quest started back again it was different. You had changed, both as a writer and as an artist, during that hiatus. You were no longer in the exact same frame of mind as you were at the start. The plot direction itself had changed. Overall, there was also the issue of the cascading effect that anon instructions, out-of-quest discussions, and dice rolls had on the story. They all contributed to small changes per session, but by the end they added up. When all was said and done, there were more than one changes in the tone of the story that was told.

>Mangle stuff

Mangled to Pieces was written in greentext format at a time when you had not hammered out characterization, a greater universe and continuity, or the writing style you would adopt. Again, thread feedback, the passage of time, and a better understanding of what you wanted to create meant that each Mangle story was subtly different from each other. Not enough to be jarring, but enough to be noticeable. As self-contained and loosely related stories, they remain internally consistent with themselves, but not with each other. At this point, with those stories approaching two years without any updates, any attempts at a continuation would require a complete rewrite.

Yet another example of how a story can shift because of an author's evolution over time. Also, I'm sure there was a story you were trying to tell with this one, but having a direction in mind for a plot and sticking to it doesn't mean that the tone didn't change. For an extreme example of this, look at New Management. It started out as a slice of life, moved very quickly to romance, and has now transitioned to Kamen Rider action stuff. It's also lost some of the humor that was present in the earlier chapters. This is a point that I want to stick, because it applies to everything you've written. The story being told, the actions from the characters, the way the words were used, all of these were not consistent between the start of the story and the end. Again, most of that seems to come from taking such a long hiatus, but there were other factors at play as well.

Bonquest stayed mostly the same throughout, with any sort of tonal changes subtle enough that they may as well be ignored, but the upcoming change in mechanics in addition to the hiatus, again, means that there's already some differences with how the story will end up being told. It's unavoidable. Another thing that definitely applies to Bonquest, and to a lesser extent everything else, is your attitude going into it. You yourself have said that it was a spur of the moment little fun project for you, but now that you've made it into an actual thing the way you're approaching it has changed. There were shades of it before, but it's more noticeable now.

This one is more tonally consistent with itself than the others, but that's because of the rewrite. Compare the original Dust Bunny with the story now. Had you not rewritten it you would have been stuck with an utter mess.

Something can have an ambiguos genre and still have uniformity in it's tone as long as that ambiguity doesn't wildly change. As of right now, the genre isn't ambiguous. Each chapter has it's own genre. The story as a whole is ambiguous, but individual chapters are not. Each one feels different, and individual scenes often feel like they're parts of different stories entirely.

I'll be honest, when I say Mangle stuff, I just means Misplaced and what got done of Synthetic Titties. The greentext is more a vague, cum-stained bible to base stuff on now. With that said, I do think Misplaced carries a solid, consistent tone and set of emotions and is what I refer to when I think of my Mangle stories. You mentioned internal consistency, I appreciate that.

As for GhostQuest, you said you felt it jumped the shark at Unit .4's introduction. Do you mean his Shadow in the Jungle Gym or his organic self when he was chasing down Oracle?

Because I always felt the Jungle Gym sessions were the highest point by far for the quest period. The constant paranoia of being chased, the more subtle shifts in reality without going full Factory like the burning sun room, to the best puzzles in the Quest imo, the backstory on Mangle and Foxy on the walls, and the exit being the hallway to speak with Unit .3 after the slide, which I also remember as a highlight. I was very in the zone in the jungle gym.

If I had to pick a 'jump the shark' moment where I didn't know what to do and improvised, it was Matthew's first appearance. Entirely unplanned, I just happened to have the sprites ready.

I think I've explained it a few times, actually.

All the characters started as relatively shallow concepts. In Toy Bonnie's case he was a fast-talking, obnoxious, and arrogant guitarist for the new Freddy Fazbear band who wanted the credit he felt he deserved for being as passionate about the band as he was. Each of the trio felt something else about their role as restaurant animatronics was more important. For Toy Bonnie, it was the band itself and how good it sounded.

He felt Toy Chica and Toy Freddy didn't care about it as much as he did, and for that he was being petty towards both of them, and it showed in his original works. His ego was pre-programed as inflated to begin with, so just add to that arrogance and some kid-friendly optimism, and that was his whole character.

His design was based on the lamest male haircut I could find, along with the fact that a lot of glamrock bands liked to wear those black vest-shirts. The reason they have 'hair' at all is because I was torn between making them robots, furries, or humans with animal traits, so I tried to mix the three instead.

Anything else added to his personality came from requests and inquiries to from the thread. His 'faggoty' nature despite him not really being that faggoty aside from looks, his overly airheaded-ness (which he was initially a LITTLE airheaded. It kinda went overboard after that), and other such traits. I tried to make a reason for all of them, and for the things he does.

Dunno how well I explain them, but that's all that it is really.

The anons here have always been douchebags. They're just more noticeable now because the FNAF fad's thinned out, we're between games (the last two of which were honestly not well-received by this thread, Ghost excluded), and there aren't as many OCfags pumping content in to keep threads hopping.
