MGSV would've worked better as a linear game like all the rest.
Koji could've kept his precious day/night cycle and implemented some large, open areas with multiple routes and sides ops still. The storypath and gameplay wouldn't have suffered so much. But it wasn't meant to be.

Okay, so the cinematography in V was kind of my favourite thing about the game. That's why I mostly post screen shots from in-game cutscenes.

In previous games I felt Kojima's direction was a bit ponderous. Clearly influenced by the likes of Leone and Kurosawa, he used lots of really long shots stretching out time to dwell of specific moments. Trying to pull that off with the technology of the time was admirable, but you couldn't get the kind of movement or Kurosawa got, or do Leone style portraiture.

V improves upon all that immeasurably. One shot I liked was this one. Tells a little story in itself. Sickly looking Miller sitting in opposition to all, especially Eli. How Snake is between Miller and Huey (figuratively and literally). The only guy who doesn't have his back to the wall is one of the regular soldiers, implying he's the only one to trust and be trusted. Also, all you can see is the inside of the helo, like that's their whole world in there. That's how I see it anyway.

Multiquiet pack is shit, because it works with one hat at the time and it just replaces existing models (snake/raiden) - you have to make file changes every time you want a new hat. I also have a suspition that this quiet model is actually mgo model. It works, sure, but it is definitely not the right way. Also I laugh every time I read the nickname of that guy who made the pack, it is like he is 14 or something.
Infheaven does it's work a bit better, but still has limitations. Swapping camos/headgear on the fly is not rocket science, just change one variable and game will load needed files. Changing faces is made through a hack using temp staff - the moment you change face/body of a soldier, you are playing as a temp staff member with new face/body combo that never existed in vanilla game. And that staff member still has limitations - cannot equip bandanna (even like just a cosmetic, not like a headgear with infbullets) for example. You cannot play with, let's say, african bodies either - to play as a nig with shorts, you'll have to replace snake's model with african PMC model who will be able to wear only those hats that nigs can wear.
Something is preventing us from applying different body variations to any model and I have no idea what exactly. Yet still working on it, I've managed to get one of the hats in the game, you can equip and unequip it, but it is flying in the air instead of sticking to the body. No pics of it, sorry.

outside the helicopter, you can run out of it. Heli map is actually a low-poly afgh/afr/motherbase map. There are two helis flying above it (one with you, one with your avatar for creating reflection during rain). Below helis there is a huge white plate, the one where you change loadout. And below it is that low-poly map. Why do they had to put it there - probably to be in touch with weather regional settings (so there would be no rain when you just came from afgh).

Bad news. It seems that every single head cosmetic in main game is actually a full head model. So balaclava is not a piece of cloth which is then attached to the head, but it's a full head with balaclava on it - unseparatable. However mgo cosmetics are missing heads entirely, they are just.. hats.
It means that in order to add mgo cosmetics you'll have to replace models instead of just slapping them together using code. Pic related, that soldier had his hardened piece of metal on top of balaclava replaced with clown head. However he had regular non-replaced head when I got on fob and here is what happened when I punched him. Game applied a new head to that body (from hard clava to a regular one) (or just changed soldier type entirely, not quite sure) and dropped a hardened model on the ground (clown head). It also means that model of hard cap on top of clava was made only for dropping purposes.
This is VERY BAD, swapping models with just code could've made things so easy. Editing and replacing models is pain in the ass. I have another method of changing models in mind, if it fails, I'll give up.

I figured out why only Laughing Octopus and Raging Raven look good while the others don't.

It's because their bodies don't match their faces. The motion capture for the B&B Corps was done by Japanese women, Crying and Screaming faces don't match the body type.
It's not that they don't look good themselves but you have a Japanese body on a African face, where the Japanese body compliments cute faces more, that is why Laughing looks good because her face is cute.

Different ethnics have different bodies and we've grown accustomed to seeing them in their place in the natural world.

Previously, it was implied that Liquid ordered a hit on Miller. Some people would say that it was Liquid because it was stated that the assassin utilized skills "similar to that of Solid Snake himself" including things like silencing a watchdog mid-howl. This was purely speculation.

The assassin used gas to poison Miller, and when Miller tried to defend himself succumbed to the gas. In MGSV it's implied that Ocelot himself was the killer. He says outright that one day they may have to kill one another. Ocelot is more the kind to use such tricks and tactics as poison.

I have given up on mgo cosmetics for reasons here - >>153920293 . There should be a function that draws a model on top of your player model, however it is unaccessable via Lua scripts. Closest that I could find was Player.AttachGasMask, that attaches mask in shining lights (but doesn't in other missions without loading corresponding assets. Sure, you can load them, but still no model change on the fly). There is also Player.ApplyFormVariationWithFile() which works with fv2 files (which are theoretically the key files that handle how models should interact), however it is really wonky and doesn't work, hangs the game etc. Fv2 files are an unsolved mystery.

Besides the lack of functions to work with models, there is a problem with models themselves. Even after replacing chicken hat with mgo hat, the latter was on the feet level which means that real chicken hat model has coordinates like (0,0,snake_height), while mgo hat has (0,0,0). "Gear" module in mgo puts models into the right place, but it doesn't exist in tpp - so we need a function, mentioned in the first paragraph (or edit models by hand which is a dirty work not suitable for honourable modders). What a shame.

There was an almost perfect way of adding headgear via NVG - adding a new nvg with another model worked, but there were 2 issues.
Issue number one: even with another model it's still NVG - everything is green and you can't see shit. Possbile fix: remove green filter, I have no idea how to.
Issue number two: model was attached in front of your face (like mvg should), not blending with face at all. Possible fix: modify model (tons of work).


I'll continue my work on animations mod instead of wasting time with mgo models for now.

Are there any direct HD comparsions between BB and Venom? I swear Venom looks off somehow. Apart from his injuries and the horn obviously

The issue is mostly that for longer hair, it's like old school fire effects. It's not the engine's fault, it's the people that made the hair. It's why Big Boss' and Quiet's hair look good, but then Paz's looks mediocre, like an especially good PS2 game.

While Huey was a piece of shit, he was the most charismatic character of MGSV and the only one who had decent writing.

The character was so well made most of the times I wanted to enter the screen and fuck the cutie myself. I literally moaned with every of his lines and excuses. For me thats 10/10 writing.

On the other side, I didnt feel any threat from Skull, any pity towards Venom or anything toward Quiet other than wanting Venom to give her the dick. Huey is a well done cutie character.

You have no idea what are you talking about.
Slapping them onto MGO content = replacing one of the body types such as battledress, sneaking suit, etc. Face doesn't matter at all, so there will be no 'Flaming Buffalo with MGO swimsuit' mod, only 'Femsoldier body replacement'.
It is easy, but it is also a really dumb way. You cannot change cosmetics quickly without shutting down the game and repacking shit over and over. Replaced old outfits will also be unavailable because they have to be, duh, replaced. It also means that in order to play as Quiet you will have to download 1,490,326kbs of models that are already in the game and that's not good at all. It could be done in a couple of kilobytes via lua script, that's what I was trying to achieve. Unfortunately it is not easy, but hey, you have a guy who applied his autism towards making quiet mod and spent days inserting same models into different folders over and over.

I am quite sure this is possible to achieve without wasting bandwidth, it's just us not being able to put pieces together. Tex almost did it with infinite heaven and he is stuck in the same position - cannot slap any model onto another one, only specific combinations are allowed.

Because Kojima can't write for shit. MGS4 had a codec but it was fucking boring as shit.

What happened was a prominent writer for MGS, Tomokazu Fukushima, left after MGS3. When Kojima wrote the codec for MGS4 by himself it was absolute dogshit and nobody cared about it, so he just got rid of it entirely rather than waste everyone's time.

Also cause fans always complained about the codec.

I never really gave D-Walker much of a chance in direct combat. I always used D-Dog regardless the situation.
I was amazed how well it drilled through those guys when I saw This Is How You Don't Play. But I'd still rather have R+D for vehicles so I can put that minigun on the Zhuk APC.
