So I've formed the Most Serene Republic of Israel, but I'm drastically over my demesne limit and am holding too many duchies (4 out of 2).

Before I cuck myself by accident, are there any general guidelines on whom I should hand out titles to? Should I avoid giving duchies to members of other great houses? Do I just give them to random vassal mayors (as opposed to feudal barons who get a Wrong Government penalty) who aren't part of the five great houses?

Sidenote, how hard would it be to convert the entire kingdom from Khazar to Ashkenazi? I know I can just have the next Shlomo educate my kids, but spreading it to the provinces sounds like the hard part.

Just updated from CK2 2.5.2 to the newest Memer's Due patch with the HIP edition that is updated for it?

Is there some sort of fuckery bug going on? I'm getting titheing events firing from my Steward collecting taxes at the rate of like twice a month for hundreds of gold, my Chancellor is fabricating claims so quickly I can't afford the prestige hits, and my Court Chaplain has improved relations with the Pope tenfold in the 3 months he's been in Rome.

Is there some compatibility issue or something? Clean install/new HIP may be required?

The war goes well. My war of attrition is starting to pay dividends. His resistance is still strong at key points, but I've taken out a number of his raw and oil locations. I know his production is hurting. My artillery is almost in range of his capital. I expect his counterattacks to get more desperate, which will further deplete his oil.

Unfortunately, I didn't invest in oil upgrades early on and now I'm hurting. I can only exploit gains so much with my armor due to my low oil levels. And I need to limit my bombing to high-value targets.
