They say this is the last Fallout 4 DLC, but I hope they're just putting us on a ruse-cruse.
The DLC packs we got were good, but nothing was really memorable.
I know some things cant be done due to constraints, but I was at least expecting one of the following;

Vault base on the moon, maybe Zetans.
Enclave in some capacity, maybe the military force on the moon.
Take the sub to China to find war still raging between Chinese and American ghouls/vault-dwellers.
Something underwater, probably vault related as well.

I cant be the only one left a little disappointed with what we have so far.

So I'm fucking around at a weapons workbench at my settlement and took the electrified serrated blade off my Chinese sword and put it back on for some admiration from Codsworth.

Settlement turrets might work if you can jury rig them to fire at something they cant quite hit, but put the boxes in their line of fire...but that sounds hard.

So, does /fog/ have consensus on whether the Sole Survivor is a synth or not, now that all is said and done? Not whether it's a shitty idea shoehorned in, but whether it's what is intended?

I'll repost something I just wrote out elsewhere. here are some signs that something isn't right with the player all the way through base game.

Even a ex-soldier should struggle to kill an entire group of raiders practically solo, straight out of retirement. As was noted, you can at least work up to it on previous characters. The biggest red flag here is when it's made clear that no normal human, no matter how skilled or experienced or geared, should be able to kill a Courser in one-on-one combat. They even make it more of an achievement by showing what this same Courser can do; slaughtering his way through a base of heavily armed and well trained mercenaries in the exact same way the player can, unharmed. Then there is the knowledge that 'Father' has engaged in experiments that are known only to him and a select few; and he personally engineered your quest and path, making sure you would run into Kellog (whom is a cyborg, which Father hates as a concept, so it would be poetic and vindication for him if his 'pinnacle' of synthetic life overcame THE example of a cyborg whom people were jealous of), and is all about 'Mankind, Redefined'. Him creating a synth Shaun for Nate/Nora would make more sense too, as they would be a 'perfect' family, ageless together.

To get meta for a moment, it would also work well with 'established' characters, with default voices, who can pursue immortality in the game several different ways (the syrum and Ghoulish) even without the idea of being a synth. Most Sole Survivors aren't going to age narrative, and could in theory be around in the lore for however long the series lasts. Them being a synth would just be another explanation for it. It also heavily fits the 'are they, or aren't they' feel of Blade Runner, which the entire synth plotline is pretty rips massive chunks from apologetically. It also gives the name 'Father' further ironic meaning, because even though you perceive yourself to be the parent due to brain scan, in actuality you could well be Shaun's greatest triumph and progeny. His favorite and favored child.

I mean, hell, even killing a Deathclaw within the rail-roaded beginning is a departure from the norms of protagonist advancement. Every other PC, even the Lone Wanderer, had to work up to Deathclaws. Whereas the SS jumps into a suit of rusty power armor and slaughters one. They are actively superhuman even in the narrative, right down to being able to become an actual superhero.

I mean, I'm not fully sold myself despite writing this blog, but it does explain a lot of narrative issues.

You're not too far off, It's not awful at all, but it's out of proportion and that's fucking things up for you. Grab one of those drawing proportion pictures and it should help you out, once the proportions are right, creating characteristics is very easy with minor tweaks. Jawlines are the bane of my existence in every game. From what I can see, the jawline needs to move down away from the mouth, while maintaining the ratios that you've got between the chin, mouth and nose. The outer and middle jaw needs to come down a bit and make the angle from the chin softer. The entire lower face should come down a bit too. The edges of the lips should then come out a bit further. As a subjective note, I think lowering the intensity of the scars looks better, especially if you've got multiple scars.

i believe the degrading level of storytelling has to do with having a larger, much more profitable AAA company with a board of directors. sales, marketing, and a board will widdle down any project creatively for cash. They will be sent a version of a script that is artistically genius and tell you they didn't like but they can't explain why or they tell you to do something everyone's seen before "as not to alienate the audience"

my reason for believing this is that most of these same guys made Morrowind and the Shivering Isles DLC. Those are fucking impeccable titles.

This same group did get shown up by Obsidian on an RPG level (certainly not stability or success of the actual product at release, just in objective writing quality), but it's not their IP and after the fucking atom bomb (no pun intended) of a success that Oblivion was for the company I think the deteriorating quality started to follow ("lets get more sales and a board and shareholders to tell us how to make a game")

Someone will say "but Oblivion core wasn't very good," but I'd blame that on overambition and Lord of the Ring's success basically begging them to make something more akin to Middle Earth.
