Holy shit, if anyone lives here, you wanna go farm Dratinis there at night. I saw 5 Dragonairs spawn in 3 hours and multiple Dratinis. Hands down the best spot so far compared to La Jolla Cove, Mission Beach or Oceanside Pier. Now the problem is that I have 125 Dratini candy so I could turn that 80% IV 754 Dratini into a 2800~ Dragonite or evolve that 1290 Dragonair which is 95%.

Mostly because it has a 200 or so CP edge on the Dragonair but I guess you're right and I should just save that 25 candy. Dragonites power up by 50+ per upgrade so it would take me 12 to get this Dragonsair as strong as the other and I'd still have 13 leftover. With some luck, he'll hit 2900 or 3000 too.

Friendly reminder that the hours column is calculated by dividing the distance by the maximum speed that the servers allow for egg hatching which is like 10-10.5 kmph. Actual walking is going to be 2-5 times longer than whatever the column says because nobody "walks" at 10kmph and the game sucks at tracking distance traveled for non-spoofers.

I've tried PokeMiner but that seems to be just for data gathering not notifying me when a rare Pokemon spawns.
Maybe one of the scanners in the OP do this but I wanna know before I try and install one of them.

Well, yesterday I went walking by the beach.
In Iquique (Chile), beach Cavancha has 16 pokestops within 400 meters. so basically you cannot run out of... anything, while farming pokemon.

I found two things, one more annoying than the other

1) Only the southernmost spot of the beach counts as beach.

In that corner, I constantly got horsea, krabby, kabuto, magicarp, etc. Anywhere else on the beach, even with my feet wet on the sea, it was sandshrew and pidgey.

2) The game does NOT measure distance properly... but only for the eggs.

Its official, Niantic cheats on purpose with the eggs to force us to buy incubators.

Added 4 eggs to incubators. A 2km eggs on the free one, 2 eggs of the 5km type, and one of the 10km persuaion.

Started walking. Now this is the dreadfully important part.

I was walking on the sand, barefoot, so dont give me that shit of "you were going too fast" because fuck you, I certainly was not. You cannot go too fast on sand.

You know how there's an achievement that rewards you for distance walked? it rewards you with absolutely nothing, but IT DOES TELLS YOU HOW MUCH YOU'VE WALKED.

An experiment with distance tracked in Pokemon Go, as recorded over a 10 mile (16 km) race.

TL;DR: about 40% of the true distance is recorded by Pokemon Go.

I signed up to run a 10 mile (16 km) race long before I even knew about Pokemon Go, and I decided to do some experimentation to see how well the app tracks distance. I knew from previous runs that it wasn't completely accurate, but I wanted to get a solid data point for the community as well.
I recorded the distance tracked by the "Jogger" medal when I got to the start line of the race. The distance was 40.08 km.
The course is a USATF-certified 10 mile course, which is 16.09 km. I recorded the distance on the Jogger medal after crossing the finish line. The distance was 46.62 km, for a total of 6.54 km recorded. Dividing 6.54km by 16.09 km run in total yields an abysmal 40.6% rate.
Here are some things I did to try to minimize external factors affecting this experiment:
I disabled Wi-Fi on my phone so that my phone wouldn't constantly be switching networks. Wi-Fi points are also used for geo-location and aren't always accurate, so I wanted to track via GPS as much as possible.
I did not catch any Pokemon during the race to avoid the dreaded frozen Pokeball bug and avoid crashes or restarts.
I did not spin any Pokestops during the race.
I used a phone holder to keep my phone in my hand the entire race, which should help with the phone's accelerometer to count steps.
I ran about 7 mph/11 kph during the race, which is lower than most of the "cut-off" speeds I've seen online.
