It was likely another actual person given the Maid's reaction, but it's kind of up for interpretation. I presumed that, while it was a real person, Bestia had projected his past-self onto that person due to their similarities, and, in killing him, he also symbolically killed himself. Embracing the beast within and letting his humanity rot.

I honestly don't understand why people are waiting for Subahibi when the superior version is already translated. At first glance Ikikoi might appear as a light hearted comedy, but just because its philosophy doesn't hit you right in the face like it's arguably less amibtious predecessor Subahibi, doesn't mean it isn't there. If you read between the lines there's actually an abundance of thought provoking themes and social commentary spread throughout the VN. You might be confused since the score on EGS isn't that high, however that's simply due to the fact that most Nips just didn't get it. One might argue that the readers felt insulted by the overly witty and clever writing by Sca-自 and his co-writers, which made them realize their own intellectual limit to the extent of developing an inferiority complex which they naturally had to vent due to its sheer size. I showed the game to my professor and he was quite frankly blown away. He handed in his resignation a few days after to conduct an intensive study on the game. Though he actually told me, the term "game" is too limited, too confining to describe Ikikoi. He was certain one day Ikikoi would be taught in school and replace less culturally valuable literature like Goethe's Faust I+II or Shakespeare (fucking hack!) as a whole. I'd advise you to simply reread Ikikoi again if only to actually see the glaring faults Subahibi has in comparison. Sca-自 truly perfected his craft with Ikikoi, I wouldn't hesitate a second to call it his magnum opus.

When you reach the point of having read 500+ VNs, the formulaic and dullness of moege is amplified quite significantly. I was just reading a review for Ginharu on EGS and it expressed that the game was the perfect moege, the quintessential love-story with fantastic sex and visuals... but nonetheless, he gave the game a 70, and warned any experienced eroge reader away from it. That's a pretty misleading thing to say. Moe is literally just cute characters who evoke a protective feeling. It's not something that stands on it's own. You could have a pure lighthearted romance/sex game without any moe elements at all. Moege is just an easy term to refer to a specific type of game that's common in VNs (romance/sex sims that make use of moe elements). Moe is pretty prevalent in all types of Japanese VNs, a lot of plotges are chock full of it.

To me, moege distinguishes itself from charage by it's stringent avoidance of drama and subservience to unwritten rules (i.e., all heroines must be virgins).
