So, /eog/, let's say I wanted to get a mainly PVE interested friend into EVE with the new F2P thing, and due to the F2P restrictions he can only pilot T1 frigs, cruisers and destroyers AND they have to be the same faction as him.

Which faction would be best for him? I'm thinking Gallente if only for the fact that hybrids + drones are probably the best weapons for PVE content, right? And the fact that they're probably the "easiest" to play. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

All your limited skills are at the bottom, but subject to change.

It would appear that characters would be so limited, that the Alphas would exist as mostly lookouts for local, fodder for member numbers, and generally be inferior all around.

It's EVE, meaning one can work their way around indentured servitude to a big corp / alliance, but the restrictions listed makes it where one essentially relies on more established players.

Another thing that people are skipping over is "The state of a given clone may affect its access to trained skills, its ability to train new ones, or the rate at which new skills are acquired.", which can translate into anything, but mostly means that to cap those 5M points, it may be slowed down to an obscene level for F2P accounts, just to further dangle shekels out of current gen "pay-for-gratification" players.

They can get Gallente drones to 5, which makes it not as painful as it can be. You can mine, industry, haul, etc. with a free account. You just can't do it at a scale and efficiency that can let you buy a plex within 30 days of play.

If you enjoy the act of mining, you can mine with a free account if you find a corp that will take you. You can pretty much do everything in the game, just at a very small and inefficient scale.

You will have three alts. Find three things you want to do, and find the optimal setup for each task. Then find a corp that will take you in and that you can have fun with.

As long as you don't need to do exactly what you are already doing, just with bigger numbers on the screen, you don't have to spend money.

The alliance that has the most efficient f2p army will win. Eve has been and always will be a numbers game.

Opportunities offer NO reward (except for very basic info on how to play) and can be completed on the fly. Career agents do offer substantial rewards (7/8 ships if you do them all, a bunch of modules and skill books) and actually teach in-depth the game mechanics (apart from camera controls/hud). Exploration was utterly gutted and destroyed several moons ago, apparently because alliances wanted cheaper shit. I used to do lowsec exploration on a daily basis, it was one of the very few decently entertaining and profitable things you could do solo. Then first Incursion patch utterly destroyed Radar spawn rates in lowsec, only to be followed by the ungodly abomination that removed all rats, turned hacking into what it is now, and multiplied highsec spawn rates. Loot prices tanked to the shitter and running the sites was no thrill whatsoever, especially since it was no longer even profitable to do especially in lowsec.

Oh well, Incursions were fine for the first few months until the autists settled in.

proposed limitations on f2p make it so each faction can really only use their respective weapon types despite there being ships in cruiser and below designed for other weapons essentially making those ships not available. this heavily limits the viability of a new character depending on their race, especially considering gallente and amarr have more variety than the others since they get drone skills.

do you guys think they'll change the faction limitation/skills to allow cross race ships or is this actually balanced?

Medium Ancil shield boosters are flat out better than Ancil armor reppers

Armor classes don't get the benefit of having a higher tier armor repair system. Large are for battleships, medium for cruisers and small for frigates

Meanwhile on shield you can do mediums on frigs, large or xlarge for cruisers and battle cruisers then exclusively xlarge on battleships

Same thing goes with plates and shield extenders. Those 100mm plates are 100 percent worthless. A small shield extender is better than a 200mm plate and a medium shield extender is on part with a 400mm plate

800mm plates are worthless in the face of 1600mm and cruisers always use 1600mm or large shield extenders.
